Chapter 2361: This Is a Supernatural Thriller
The neighboring houses were shrouded in darkness, and only a few homes in the entire villa area had their lights on.
This was dinner time, yet the rate of lit homes here was far below that of ordinary residential areas. One could imagine how busy these business tycoons must be in their daily lives; making a lot of money doesn’t necessarily mean having time to enjoy it. Or maybe these big shots own multiple properties and don’t necessarily live here. Student Wei drove the car out of the garage and stopped, poking his head out of the window to say, "Yingying, get in the car."
Standing beside the car, Student Xie seemed not to hear the voice, her eyes focused somewhere ahead.
"What’s going on?" Student Wei realized something was amiss and jumped out after opening the car door.
Xie Wanying walked forward, moving very quickly, and shouted toward the person at the diagonal-facing house’s doorway, "Wait!"
Under the dim white light of a bulb by the big iron gate of that house, a woman inserted a key into the keyhole. Suddenly, her right hand, which held the key, started twitching for some unknown reason. Then, with a snap, the woman’s head and body slammed against the iron gate. It was like watching a supernatural thriller unfold; the woman’s body seemed to be sucked against the gate by some ghostly force, unable to break away for a moment.
"Mom!" The ten-year-old boy trailing the woman noticed something wrong with his mother and reached out to grab her hand.
"Don’t—"
The boy heard the shout, but his hand couldn’t retract in time, and as soon as his small hand grasped his mother’s arm, he too was convulsed and fell onto the concrete ground. What was going on? Had they encountered a ghost? Student Wei was utterly shocked; if he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, he’d really think he was watching a horror movie in the theater.
Being medical students, their first thought upon seeing someone collapse was emergency aid. Student Wei followed closely behind Student Xie, rushing to the mother and child, about to reach out when Student Xie stopped him.
"Quickly find a wooden stick and move the wire away," Xie Wanying said, tilting her head to look at the dangling electrical wire on the big iron gate. She had been staring at the anomaly right there, an electrical wire hanging down onto the iron gate. She rushed to shout for them not to unlock the gate and leave, yet they were still too late.
Wei Shangquan understood after hearing her words: it wasn’t a supernatural thriller; the mother and child hadn’t suddenly fallen ill; they were electrocuted.
Both frantically searched nearby for an insulating object to push away the wire and disconnect the power, so they could proceed to save the people.
Seeing a bamboo pole leaning against the wall not far away, the two dashed over, grabbed the pole, and ran back. Confirming the bamboo pole was dry and that it was unlikely for a high-voltage line to appear in front of a residential building, they swiftly used the pole to flick the wire off the gate.
The woman who seemed affixed to the gate fell onto the concrete ground as the supernatural phenomena disappeared.
The two students quickly separated the mother and child, checking the victims’ pulse, carotid artery, and breathing: cardiac arrest?
As for breathing, it was evident that the adult, the first to contact the power source, was the most severely injured, with her breathing completely stopped. The child, however, still had faint breathing. A cardiac arrest doesn’t necessarily mean breathing stops immediately.
Electrocution, referred to as electric shock injury, causes the most critical damage to the heart rather than the lungs or respiratory center. The electric current quickly passes through the human conductor to the heart, causing arrhythmia. It’s possible that while breathing hasn’t stopped yet, the heart has. Of course, other special factors might have led to breathing stopping first.
