Chapter 228: Having a Meal at the Mu Family’s
Meanwhile, at the Jiang Family residence, Jiang Xia was also busy brainwashing his parents. He didn’t want them creating unnecessary obstacles for him like Mu Tangfeng’s parents did.
They didn’t have strong opinions about Shi Lan, though. As long as she was good to their son, that was enough for them.
So, whatever Jiang Xia said, they just nodded along in agreement.
Around ten o’clock that night, Shi Lan was about to message He Hanshi to tell him the good news about her spiritual power test. But then she figured Jiang Xia and the others should know too, so she just pulled everyone into a group chat.
Jiang Xia, a first-rate internet surfer, immediately sent a question mark. [Lanlan, what’s up?]
Mu Tangfeng was right behind him. [Lanlan, is there something you want to tell us? Why the sudden group chat?]
He Hanshi happened to be free at that moment, so he also asked, [Lanlan, is something the matter?]
Yan Huoshui and Ye Ming replied a little later, but Ye Ming had a pretty good idea of what she was going to say.
Shi Lan typed: [Sharing some good news with everyone. Ye Ming and I went to get my spiritual power tested today. It’s S-level.]
Jiang Xia: [!!! Lanlan, you’re amazing!]
Mu Tangfeng: [Lanlan, that’s incredible!]
He Hanshi and Yan Huoshui, however, weren’t as surprised by the result. Perhaps they had expected it. After all, their spiritual power had been on the verge of complete collapse, yet Shi Lan had nearly healed them in just over a month.
They even suspected she was higher than S-level.
Still, ’a tall tree catches the wind.’ This Level was at least relatively safe, since she wasn’t the only one at it.
The thought crossed both their minds, but they were still proud of Shi Lan’s excellence.
He Hanshi: [I knew you were exceptional, Lanlan. As expected, the wife I’ve chosen is anything but ordinary.]
Yan Huoshui: [That’s wonderful! Since you’re so strong, Lanlan, I’ll be counting on you to protect me from now on~]
He followed it with a sticker of a fox acting cute.
Jiang Xia, Mu Tangfeng: [BLECH!]
Shi Lan looked at the messages on her chip, a smile unconsciously tugging at her lips. Her thoughts then drifted to the matter of her Fertility Value.
’A female with a Fertility Value of 0 can’t get pregnant. If I were to get pregnant in the future, they would figure out my Fertility Value couldn’t be 0.’
’Dragging this out for too long might damage the trust between us.’
Shi Lan mulled it over for a long while before typing again. [Actually, my Fertility Value isn’t 0. My spirit body is special and can hide the specific number.]
Ye Ming was taken aback. [No wonder.]
Jiang Xia rushed to show his sincerity. [Lanlan, I don’t care about any of that! Whether we have children or not isn’t as important as you are.]
He Hanshi, Yan Huoshui, and Mu Tangfeng chimed in as well. [That’s right, Lanlan. Children aren’t important. You are.]
For them, having offspring truly wasn’t a priority. They had all been on the verge of death, and it was Lanlan who had saved them.
In their hearts, Shi Lan was the irreplaceable treasure.
Shi Lan smiled. [I know how you all feel. But you’re all so exceptional; if we get married, I’d like to see our cubs too.]
’Most importantly, the cubs would all be fluffy! Wouldn’t that mean I’d finally achieve fluffy freedom?’
’Shi Lan didn’t particularly like kids, but if her own children were fluffy, that might be a different story. Besides, they would be the children of the men she loved. The thought was actually a little exciting.’
Shi Lan intentionally didn’t specify her Fertility Value. She didn’t want to lie, but revealing a value of 100 was too risky.
’In this era, most males longed for children, and I’m afraid of becoming a baby-making machine. Sometimes you can’t bet on human nature. Even with the people closest to you, it’s wise to keep a few secrets.’
The key part of Shi Lan’s last message was actually "cubs," but the five men were clearly focused on one word: "married."
Jiang Xia sent a sticker of a Pallas’s cat holding a marriage certificate. [Lanlan, when are we getting our license?]
Mu Tangfeng: [Lanlan, you’re agreeing to marry us?]
He Hanshi: [Lanlan, wait for me to come back. The Insect Clan has been quiet these past few days. I’ll be on leave and heading back to the Capital Star in two days.]
Yan Huoshui: [Lanlan, I’ve already prepared my dowry.]
He followed that up with a flood of pictures of Red Crystal Stones. Each one was as brilliant as a fresh-cut Ruby, with a pure, rich color.
Ye Ming rarely expressed his feelings so directly in front of so many people. He was a beat behind the others, but his reply was firm: [Okay. I’ll be ready for you anytime, Lanlan.]
As they kept talking, the group started discussing the assets and dowries they needed to prepare for the wedding, completely forgetting all about cubs and Fertility Values.
Shi Lan stared at the chat history scrolling quickly on her chip. There was a hint of exasperation in her eyes, but the corners of her mouth remained curved in a happy smile.
「Two days later.」
Mu Tangfeng picked Shi Lan up to have lunch at his house. Mr. and Mrs. Mu had specifically cleared their schedules, pushing aside all official business just to welcome her.
Shi Lan wasn’t sure what they would like, so she played it safe and bought two bottles of aged red wine, a silk scarf worth fifty thousand for Mrs. Mu, and two baskets of fruit.
She knew Mu Tangfeng’s family was very wealthy, so she didn’t try to overdo it. She simply chose appropriate gifts that were within her own budget.
Mu Tangfeng couldn’t help but mutter, "Lanlan, you’re spending too much. Let me pay for it." But the smile on his face was brighter than any flower outside.
He understood that Shi Lan valued him, which was why she was placing so much importance on his parents.
Of course, Shi Lan wasn’t going to let him pay, but she did hand everything over for him to carry.
Mu Tangfeng accepted gladly, a smile fixed on his lips.
After buying the gifts, the two took a Hovercar to the Mu Family estate.
Mr. and Mrs. Mu were waiting for Shi Lan at the entrance. When they recognized Mu Tangfeng’s Hovercar, they both straightened their clothes.
The Hovercar door opened. Mu Tangfeng, carrying all the bags, excitedly thrust the gifts at his father. "Mom, Dad, these are the presents Lanlan bought for you."
"My dear, you’ve spent too much," Mrs. Mu said. "It’s just a meal. There’s no need to be so formal."
Mr. Mu took them, noting their considerable weight. His hands dipped for a moment before he lifted them again with ease.
Mrs. Mu took Shi Lan’s hand. "You’re too kind, Lanlan. It’s sunny out here, let’s go inside."
"You must be hungry, right? The food is all ready. We were just waiting for you."
Although Shi Lan was a little uncomfortable having her hand held by a stranger, she didn’t say anything. She just smiled and said, "It’s my pleasure, Sir, Ma’am. It’s proper etiquette for a junior."
The smile on Mrs. Mu’s face deepened. Mu Tangfeng trotted happily behind Shi Lan, while Mr. Mu brought up the rear, holding the fruit, wine, and the gift bag with the scarf all by himself.
The robot butler beside them offered to help, but he shook his head and refused.
’No matter what, these were gifts from the female Feng’er liked. If I casually handed them to a robot, I’d worry she might get the wrong idea and think we don’t value her.’
The Mu Family’s house was also massive and luxurious. It was surrounded by a number of detached villas, making the entire area look like a small, private villa complex.
’I don’t know if it’s because I’ve seen so many houses like this recently, but I’m actually getting used to it.’
Mrs. Mu led her by the hand to the central villa. As soon as she stepped inside, Shi Lan was greeted by the enticing aroma of a home-cooked meal.
