Chapter 239: Proposal 2
After the two walked down the red carpet, they arrived at the center: a sea of white roses, the same color as the ones in Shi Lan’s arms, densely arranged in the shape of a heart, but with a gap in the middle.
Ye Ming faced Shi Lan and dropped to one knee. He must have been nervous, because he knelt a little too hard, his knee sinking into the sand with a soft rustle. However, at that moment, neither of them noticed the small disturbance.
Ye Ming took his proposal ring out of his pocket. He subconsciously licked his dry lips, looked up at Shi Lan, and confessed with determination, "Lanlan, I’m so lucky to have this chance to propose to you."
"Actually, you probably don’t know this, but I fell for you a long time ago on Black Star. I’m not someone who likes to talk to strangers, and I’m not very willing to make friends. So even on Black Star, I was used to hiding myself in the darkness."
"I’m sorry I scared you at first. Back then, I was just curious and wanted to say hello."
"I’m so glad that you didn’t end up hating me for it, and that it allowed me to reach this day, to be by your side."
His lips curved into a smile, a hint of bashfulness in his eyes. "I’m not very good with words, so I might not have expressed myself well. I hope you don’t mind, Lanlan. What I want to say again is that for the rest of my life, I only want to be your Beast Husband. My heart and my eyes will only ever have you in them. Lanlan, I love you. Will you marry me?"
Shi Lan had always thought that crying during a proposal on TV was an exaggeration. But now that it was her turn, memories of every little moment they had shared flashed through her mind like a montage. His voice echoed in her ears, the past and present intertwining before her eyes. It was hard not to be moved.
Her eyes reddened, and she blinked back tears, but her voice was loud and clear. "I will!"
Ye Ming gazed at her, a single, emotional tear welling up in his eyes, which had been reflecting her image all along.
He lowered his gaze slightly to hide his loss of composure, his eyes crinkling with joyous laughter as he took out the ring and gently slipped it onto Shi Lan’s finger.
Shi Lan shook her head. Under his nervous gaze, she said with a grin, "Since I’m the one marrying you, it’s only natural that I prepare the rings."
As she spoke, she took out the rings she had made herself. She handed Ye Ming the one meant for her, then first placed his ring on his finger before holding out her hand. "Your turn!"
Ye Ming stared blankly at the ring on his hand. Shi Lan had made it herself. The design was relatively simple, with a green diamond in the center—the same color as his eyes.
Shi Lan’s diamond, however, was multicolored, incorporating the characteristic colors of each of them.
He seemed to understand something. His gaze softened as he slid the ring onto her hand.
In truth, Shi Lan was a little nervous too. She had held hands with all of them and had a rough idea of their ring sizes, but she was still afraid it wouldn’t fit, so she had specifically made them adjustable.
Thankfully, Ye Ming’s ring was a perfect fit.
Once the rings were on, the soldiers’ fierce applause and cheers erupted once more.
After putting on the ring, Ye Ming finally felt a sense of peace, as if the dust had finally settled. He guided her through the final step. "Lanlan, place the flowers in your hands in the center of the heart-shaped roses here."
Shi Lan, still in a bit of a daze, did as he asked and placed the bouquet.
The moment the bouquet of white roses landed, it instantly blended in with the surrounding heart shape. Only the plush doll sitting on top marked where the bouquet had been.
Not long after she set the flowers down, a plume of colorful smoke blossomed behind the heart of flowers. The smoke seemed to have a mind of its own, arcing through the air like a rainbow as curious seagulls weaved through it.
After the smoke dissipated, a line of text slowly appeared: Shi Lan, I love you.
At the same time, every advertising screen across Capital Star switched to display the scene of Ye Ming’s successful proposal, freezing on this final moment.
Capital Star was instantly thrown into an uproar.
The Eldest Prince actually proposed!!!
The female was only shown from the back, along with her name. Most people didn’t recognize her, and those who did were in utter disbelief.
’Isn’t Shi Lan supposed to be useless?’
Someone voiced this question, but seeing that the Eldest Prince was actually going to marry her, and that the Imperial Family hadn’t stopped it, those who knew the inside story began to doubt what they knew.
The Imperial Capital School had a student information wall that listed basic details like names and spiritual power levels. A curious student went to look her up, only to discover that Shi Lan’s spiritual power had been silently updated to S.
Yan Huoshui had arranged for the update in advance. As for her Fertility Value, since having children wasn’t a 100% guarantee, people didn’t care about it as much as spiritual power, so it was generally hidden by default.
The students of the Capital School: ??????
’What the hell? We go to the same school! There’s an S-level female here and we didn’t even know?’
S-level!!!
HOLY CRAP, HOLY CRAP, HOLY CRAP! For a moment, this news completely overshadowed the Eldest Prince’s proposal.
The school’s information wall was updated regularly; there was no way it could be fake.
And so, on this day, a crowd of males who had once mocked Shi Lan were filled with endless regret, beating their chests and stamping their feet. They watched the advertisement of Ye Ming’s proposal at school with eyes full of envy and remorse, their hearts shattering into a million pieces.
What on earth had they missed out on?
An S-level! In the last 30 years, Shi Lan was the only S-level female. The others were all from the previous generation and already in stable marriages.
They had even thought that the Empire would never see another S-level female emerge. Who knew Shi Lan could undergo such a change?
Ye Ming couldn’t care less about other people’s troubles. His heart was completely filled with the joy of his successful proposal. He looked at Shi Lan and placed a devout kiss on her temple.
"Thank you, Lanlan."
"Thank you for letting me be your Beast Husband."
After Ye Ming’s proposal ceremony, Shi Lan took back the bouquet. The plush doll on it was clearly made by Ye Ming in his own likeness, and she couldn’t bear to throw it away.
She carefully stored it in her Space Chain. Ye Ming’s charming eyes became even more captivating, and the beauty mark under the corner of his eye seemed to glow with bright joy.
Now that Ye Ming’s proposal was over, Shi Lan knew the others would be next.
She looked down at the ring on her hand, a renewed sense of anticipation bubbling up inside her.
As for Ye Ming, perhaps because he had finally secured his official status, he sat peacefully beside Shi Lan, holding her hand, unwilling to let go. He didn’t release it until the Hovercar stopped again and He Hanshi walked over.
"Lanlan, it’s my turn."
"Okay."
Shi Lan followed him with a beaming smile. Ye Ming let go of her hand on his own accord, his palm suddenly feeling empty.
He Hanshi’s proposal was set to take place at an old castle estate, but he had personally handled every single detail of the decor.
The estate had undergone a massive transformation by him. From the moment one entered, the scenery inside was as beautiful as a princess’s fortress from a fairy tale.
Flanking the entrance were large, dense clusters of resplendent pink roses that snaked all the way to the estate’s fountain.
The roses leaned slightly toward the central stone path, as if bowing their heads to welcome a princess.
He Hanshi enveloped her hand in his. With her holding the bouquet, he led her inside.
He hadn’t prepared roses, but the Xia Donghua flowers he had once given her before.
Clusters of blue blossoms stretched out in her hands, catching the breeze. The rose petals brushed against Shi Lan’s white skirt, as if they were sprites scrambling to offer her their beautiful blessings.
