Chapter 874 - 424: Disturbance Index_2
Li Ang was oblivious to these matters before, so he didn’t notice her unnatural demeanor. Even so, she had hidden it well for so long, showing her fortitude.
"I want to know, was our meeting purely coincidental?"
Meluna paused, as if contemplating whether her words might anger Li Ang, inciting his fury or disappointment. Her expression remained unchanged, but her eyes, usually unwavering except when concerning swords and battles, now shimmered with unease.
"Yes."
She struggled for a long time before uttering this single word, then cautiously observed Li Ang’s expression.
Knowing she lacked expressive capacity, Li Ang didn’t press further, instead organizing his thoughts: "Did you first see me in the Creation Wedge, and then sought me out?"
"Yes."
"Because there are many of me, and many Children of the Stars, but you are the only one."
Li Ang pondered her comment and tried asking, "You mean, in different world lines, there are many Meimei, and also many Zoe?"
"Yes." The black-haired young girl nodded.
"And the implication of only one of me is, in your view, am I the new Savior of Nebis? Chosen by it after you and Zoe?"
"Yes."
"Why did only you and Meimei come to this Nebis, not other world lines’ Zoes?"
"Many encountered different circumstances. That sneaky... that individual, she is involved in many things, the war is grander, and the routes she triumphs in lead to a world more devastated than mine, where the World Wedge couldn’t survive."
Alright, Li Ang understood her meaning. Zoe’s potential is stronger than that of the Scion of the Tides, blessed by the Star Soul, capable of summoning Bahamut, but these greater powers don’t guarantee the salvation of Nebis. Instead, they make the fragile world even more vulnerable than the world line where Meluna triumphed.
"So, you and Meimei are exceptions within exceptions."
"Only our world preserved the World Wedge. It was due to everyone’s sacrifices for her, while I eliminated all formidable adversaries alone."
Li Ang grasped why Meluna felt a profound sense of suppression towards Meimei.
The paths these two trod were utterly opposed. Meimei didn’t rise independently; it was the collective effort of the entire world that kept her alive. Meluna, however, was a powerful lone wolf, annihilating all enemies but still unable to prevent the ultimate downfall of the world.
They traversed nearly opposite trajectories, despite being the same person, now developed into states difficult to reconcile, and due to individual prowess transcending, Meimei naturally pales in comparison. Nevertheless, Meimei integrated into the Star Flower Travel Corps earlier.
"In an earlier time, wouldn’t there have been other Saviors?" Li Ang thought of another matter.
"Yes. Many failed early and utterly."
Li Ang didn’t inquire further; he generally understood that if the world was calculating who could save Nebis, then Meimei and Zoe were relatively late experimental subjects.
Li Ang rubbed his forehead with his fingers; although such matters weren’t particularly shocking for a Transmigrator, he still needed to organize his thoughts.
Perhaps Nebis, or the Creator God’s hidden will behind it, was selecting "Saviors," granting them different talents, leading them down varied life paths, attempting to let them save an inevitably doomed world.
And these Saviors all failed, including Zoe.
Ultimately, it chose me?
"How did you confirm I am the Savior?"
"In the World Wedge, this Nebis just started developing from an initial node, and everyone else’s disturbance index was lower than yours."
Initial node? Disturbance index?
Li Ang seized these two points to inquire, Meluna was unclear, she understood these concepts only because she once captured a Demon for interrogation.
He analyzed based on her attempted description.
The initial node is the time when the Empire initiates action; it cannot annihilate Nebis but the ripples it causes will trigger all hidden dangers laid since the Ancient Era.
The disturbance index indicates an individual’s capability to effect change in Nebis. According to Meluna, a Savior’s disturbance index is usually exceptionally high, even tens of times more than others. "Zoes" have indices higher than "Meimeis." Past Saviors also varied, suggesting the world itself wavers.
Li Ang’s disturbance index was the lowest among those ranked in the highest position, appearing even possibly outstripped by those ranked lower. Meluna initially thought his Nebis was an entirely new attempt, but in the end confirmed him.
"Why confirm me?"
"Because the comrades in your old group, their indices weren’t originally high, but all increased after encountering you."
Could it be due to being a Transmigrator?
Increasing the disturbance index of those around, perhaps stemming from some perspectives accumulated in another world? Why not grant me, the supposed Savior, greater Power? Only providing it after encountering Zoe?
What’s the mystery between the system and transmigration?
Touching on transmigration leads to much speculation, with scant information, all conjecture; Li Ang plans to temporarily leave this subject aside.
If considering himself "a regular person possessing transmigration knowledge," perhaps the world’s calculations intend to simulate a world without a Savior, purely observing whether the masses can collectively save it.
"Wait."
Li Ang thought of a crucial question: "What about Rams? Isn’t his disturbance index very high?"
"Your former leader, although raised due to you, his index is only slightly above a regular person’s level. At best, comparable to some minor nobles of Sky Island."
