Chapter 3029 - Concessions and Submission
After a while, Su Yi set aside his scattered thoughts and flipped his palm. The Medallion of Past Karma floated into the air.
It was fist-sized, red throughout, and carved with strange, intricate markings of the Grand Dao. This was the treasure that Ying Qi, an utterly terrifying existence, saw as his ultimate life-saving trump card.
That alone proved how extraordinary this treasure was.
Su Yi was just about to examine it more closely when he felt a sudden sense of unease. It was inexplicable, and seemingly random.
He stared at the medallion, his brow furrowing. Don’t tell me there’s some sort of danger hidden in this treasure?
I carry the Book of Destiny, and now, I’ve ignited my Natal Heart Lamp. When it comes to mastery of the power of destiny, none in this world can compare. Yet now, a mere treasure has filled my heart with unease. There’s no way it’s simply a whim.
Su Yi pondered briefly, then decided to take out the Book of Destiny. A rain of light scattered as the second page opened and the indistinct outline of the Abyss of Ceaseless Destiny appeared.
River Ancestor Sparrow was rushing along when he sensed the change. His feathers stood on end, and he said in a quavering voice, “Chosen, you...”
Su Yi said casually, “It has nothing to do with you. Keep moving.”
“Uh... Okay!” River Ancestor Sparrow nodded repeatedly, but there was no erasing that instinctual dread and sense of oppression so easily.
Su Yi noticed, and he couldn’t help but sigh. The Book of Destiny’s effects on the river denizens are truly overwhelming. It’s having such an impact on even a River Ancestor; how strong must it be against more ordinary river denizens?
Su Yi glanced at the Medallion of Past Karma, but just as he was about to toss it into the Abyss of Ceaseless Destiny, something unexpected happened. The medallion’s surface erupted with blood-red flames, and it struggled to break free of Su Yi’s grip!
It was indistinct, but he saw an ethereal figure within the flame. She formed hand seals, and she was obviously preparing to flee.
But Su Yi had already been on guard, so the moment this unexpected development took place, he activated Ceaseless Damnation to suppress it.
Boom!
Both the Medallion of Past Karma and the ethereal figure were consigned to the Abyss of Ceaseless Destiny. Both vanished completely.
Su Yi sighed in relief. There really was danger lurking in the medallion! If I’d tried to sense it without taking precautions, I’d have suffered badly.
Meanwhile, in the endless darkness of the Abyss of Ceaseless Destiny, the atmosphere was stifled, oppressive, and bleak.
Ying Qi had just told the others everything he knew about Su Yi’s past, leaving nothing out. Sovereign Preceptor Mo Hanyi and the other old monsters sank deep into silence.
Inwardly, their thoughts raced. Reincarnation! The Epoch Spark! The reincarnation of the Big Boss of Sword Sovereign City!
These previously unknown truths came as a massive shock to all seven old monsters.
They’d thought Su Yi was just a young sword cultivator acknowledged by the Book of Destiny, and that he had deep ties to the previous Chosen, Xiao Jian.
Now, it seemed this young sword cultivator’s secrets were far grander and more numerous than they’d anticipated. And far more terrifying, too!
Sovereign Preceptor Mo Hanyi had once fought his way out of the River of Destiny. He’d reached the Far Shore.
Anyone who knew anything at all about the Far Shore understood the weight of the name “Sword Sovereign City.” He was also well aware of what kind of supreme, terrifying existence the famed “Big Boss” was. At least, in a sense. The true heights of the Big Boss’s strength were beyond his comprehension.
And Su Yi was the Big Boss’s incarnation. That revelation alone was enough to throw Mo Hanyi’s Dao Heart out of whack.
Xiao Jian had left an indelible dark shadow on Mo Hanyi’s heart. Losing to Xiao Jian had been a lasting humiliation. Now there was the Big Boss in the mix...
The reality of the situation was like a firm blow to the head. A long time passed before Mo Hanyi came back to his senses.
Only now did he understand why Su Yi treated him with such casual disregard, and why he dared proclaim that the Negative Karma Destiny Demons would have to submit or face destruction.
He wasn’t just bluffing. He actually had reason to be confident!
Before Su Yi left, he had said, “Learn what kind of person I am, then see if you’re still confident enough to say such things to me.”
Those words now echoed through Mo Hanyi’s mind, but this time, they made his heart sink.
After a while, Mo Hanyi murmured, “Reincarnation, the Epoch Spark, Xiao Jian, the Big Boss of Sword Sovereign City... and the Book of Destiny on top of all that... Su Yi might well one day have the capacity to wipe our entire race out of existence, severing all possibility of ‘an endless, inextinguishable flow...’”
His voice resounded throughout the deathly silence. The other old monsters looked stricken, while Ying Qi sank into a daze. Even the Sovereign Preceptor says so. Does that mean that even if our people escape the Silent Annihilation Forbidden Domain, we’ll have to live under the dark shadow that is Su Yi? Are we truly at risk of being eliminated?
It was then that an explosion boomed throughout the Abyss of Ceaseless Destiny. The Medallion of Past Karma appeared, only for terrifying, dark power to suppress it.
An indistinct, ethereal figure appeared on its surface. She was struggling with all her might, but it was to no avail.
When Ying Qi saw her, he was unwittingly stunned. That’s Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao!!!
Her delicate figure was thoroughly trapped. Bitterness was written all over her beautiful, unearthly face.
“Ling Zhao?” Mo Hanyi recognized her, too. He then said decisively, “Don’t struggle, or this wisp of your soul will be doomed!”
Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao’s illusory figure stiffened, and she gave up the struggle, then looked at the distant Mo Hanyi in disbelief. “Grandfather... you’re still alive?”
She then recognized the remaining six old monsters in turn, then sank into a daze.
Ying Qi understood. She must have hidden an imprint of her soul on the Medallion of Past Karma as a backup plan before giving it to me.
It’s not hard to guess why. She thought that if something went wrong, she’d be able to use her imprint to intervene. But Su Yi must have seen through her...
Ying Qi’s eyes dimmed. How could Su Yi be so capable? He even saw through and neutralized Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao’s backup measures?
Meanwhile, Mo Hanyi’s heart churned with emotion. He had a conflicted look on his face.
Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao was his descendant, the granddaughter he most doted on. He would never have guessed that they’d be reunited under these circumstances after countless years of separation.
After a while, he let out a long sigh. “Impressive, Little Chosen! I, Mo Hanyi... really have to hand it to you...”
This was the ruefulness of a hero in his twilight years. The others couldn’t help but sympathize.
Su Yi saw it all, but he didn’t rush to respond. There was no need. He could just wait until Mo Hanyi and the other old monsters had calmed down, then find an opportunity to chat with them.
He was confident that when he did, Mo Hanyi would change his attitude toward him!
Mo Hanyi and Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao conversed in the Abyss of Ceaseless Destiny. Mo Hanyi wanted to know about the Negative Karma Destiny Demons’ situation.
“Grandfather, can Su Yi hear us?” asked Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao, on guard against the possibility that their conversation would reveal their race’s secrets to Su Yi.
Mo Hanyi shook his head. “It’s fine if he overhears. Let the Little Chosen understand what we Destiny Demons are capable of.”
Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao didn’t hesitate any further. She conversed with Mo Hanyi, and Su Yi listened in.
About ten minutes later, their conversation came to an end.
Su Yi couldn’t help but rub his forehead. Assuming Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao was telling the truth, the Negative Karma Destiny Demons’ accumulated strength was far too terrifying.
They’d been biding their time and expanding their ranks since their defeat in the Battle of Silent Annihilation. They now numbered over eight million!
Their ranks included a full thirty-six Demon Sovereigns. Whether they were Destiny Demons or Celestial Demons, Demon Sovereigns were experts comparable to River Ancestors and Heavenly Sovereigns in their respective territories!
Heavenly Sovereigns reigned supreme above the River of Destiny, while River Ancestors were strongest in the water.
Similarly, Destiny Demon Sovereigns and Celestial Demon Sovereigns reigned supreme in the Silent Annihilation Forbidden Domain and the Void.
The Destiny Demons alone had a full thirty-six Demon Sovereigns. It was easy to imagine how terrifying their accumulations were.
It was no wonder Xiao Jian had always worried about what disasters would befall the world if the Negative Karma Destiny Demons escaped confinement.
And that was just the Demon Sovereigns. Their ranks included innumerable Demon Kings, Demon Nobles, Demon Generals, and Demon Captains, too.
If an army like that swept across the River of Destiny, how many factions could defend themselves?
That aside, Su Yi learned from their conversation that the barrier around the Silent Annihilation Forbidden Domain had indeed cracked in numerous places!
According to Ling Zhao, the cracks were connected to the Struggle for Heavenly Fate, or rather, to the heart devil’s clash with Lonely Heights!
Su Yi recalled the spacetime barrier in the depths of the well in the Golden Frost Forbidden Zone. There’d been a crack there, too.
It was just that that barrier led, not to the Silent Annihilation Forbidden Domain, but to the Void, the home of the Outsider Celestial Demons.
Are those cracks the result of that duel, too?
As Su Yi’s thoughts raced, Mo Hanyi’s voice rang out. “Little Chosen, you now understand the Destiny Demons’ reserves, while I’ve acknowledged your capabilities.
“In my capacity as Sovereign Preceptor, I guarantee that none of us will oppose you any further so long as you guarantee our race a path to life!”
The others were stunned, their expressions shifting and uncertain. Our people and Destiny’s Chosen are irreconcilable enemies. How could we set aside our grudges so easily? Wouldn’t that mean that all our forebears who died during the Battle of Silent Annihilation sacrificed their lives in vain?
Our people were confined to the Silent Annihilation Forbidden Domain for countless years. Surely we aren’t going to let that grudge and humiliation go unavenged?
All of them were frustrated and confused. They couldn’t for the life of them imagine why Mo Hanyi was making such a humiliating concession!
But against all expectations, Su Yi refused. “You won’t oppose me any further? No, what I want is for your entire race to submit!”
