Chapter 75: Perhaps in the future
"When you interact with them, you have to present yourself as the superior one. The Arachne likes that."
Unlike the other creatures who get scared when you show them a bigger front, the creatures who make some of the strongest fibers in the continent, the Green-banded Spider that they were playing with right now, liked it when someone presented themselves as the superior one.
It was a new thing for the old elder. She had seen many of these beasts during her previous visits already, but even after that, she did not know too much about most of the creatures in this place.
Even for creatures like this spider that they also had in their second cradle, knowing their nature and behavior was not a normal thing.
"Salamanders are delicate creatures even though they look dangerous and powerful."
When Sam picked up the big lizard-like creature that was the size of a monitor lizard, it’s powerful red flames did not hurt him.
The flames were powerful and deadly. They could have destroyed his body if the creature had wanted, but the large creature liked the way Sam caressed the creature’s body.
"They like it when we try to get closer to them. As you may know, they could sense the negative emotions like fears of the creatures. So, they like it when someone tries to be likable despite their fears."
The salamanders of the sanctuary are simple creatures. They were primarily calm and understanding.
Since they were raised in a controlled environment, they did not have any reason to be aggressive most of the time.
They were extremely smart as well. And more than that, they knew just how powerful they were.
Just to maintain their fire so as to not burn anything around them took a lot of effort. And they maintained it almost all the time. They were amazing and admirable in his eyes.
"Tell me, elder. Who could ever tell these are the same disastrous creatures that have killed hundreds of people whenever they appear in the wild?"
There were of course many Salamanders out there in the world but, this was the last place in this world where those creatures were looked after by someone who knew more about them than any of the mortals in this world.
The guardians weren’t just their caretakers in this cradle. They were their servants who looked after them with great loyalty.
"Myaak~!"
The red-flame salamander was happy right now.
It did not act the same around the elder lady. The Elder could also tell how there were few beings in this place who would ever follow the humans as well as they followed Sam.
"Oh? Hahaha~."
It was a miracle if even one of these spiritual creatures showed up before you in this cradle.
They did not like the outsiders. Whenever she had visited this place, she had hardly ever seen more than three of them roaming the grand garden.
The other creatures were a sight to behold, yes, but there was nothing in this world for a Sungrade like the Salamanders.
They were the masters of flame. They were the spirit beasts that possessed the aspects of both material and spiritual.
For the elder who was never chosen by these legendary beasts, the way they showed a young boy their affection was truly bizarre.
For the first time in her old age, she was envious of a youthful sapling.
’What happened to him?’
The boy that she saw just a few days ago was not the same anymore. Be it the height or the luster of his blue hair, everything seemed different about him.
On top of that, even though he was a little more muscular, the powerful energy that she could feel inside him was the biggest change in this boy.
’He isn’t affected by the Decay anymore.’
She was sure the guardians were the culprit behind this. And she could not thank them enough for taking away perhaps the only exploitable weakness this boy of theirs had right now.
"Kreee—ptttt!"
"There’s a Ghost Crane here as well?" When he heard a certain low pitched noise, his eyes suddenly widened.
There was a big smile on his face as well. He was excited like a little boy who had just received the news of an unexpected holiday.
"You can tell what it is with the call alone?" The elder lady was impressed yet again.
The creature wasn’t something that was found in this continent, much less in the east.
"It’s too distinct to miss~. The powers of the are quite possessive of them according to the descriptions."
He didn’t want her to get involved with his past life business so he made an excuse. He was already famous as a reader so she didn’t question him for now.
She did, however, go after him when he walked to the nearby lake area of the garden to see the extremely shy and dangerous bird of the different continent.
"Pretty, isn’t it?" She had seen that creature for the first time when she was around his age. It was an old bird.
"The Juveniles like this one are still pretty plain compared to the grown ups. Sadly, we cannot witness their growth during our short lifetimes."
Much like the salamanders who live for thousands of years, however, there were many creatures in this world who had a lifespan of several millennia.
The one before them was a crane with a translucent head: a body covered in extremely attractive feathers of different colors and a ghost-like head that almost seemed to be made of energy.
The creature had clear eyes like glass, and while shy, the creature seemed like a part of the lake itself, making it an attraction unlike anything else.
"Even at his age, he would be at a (SSR-Rank). Being born from legendary parents sadly doesn’t grant them a legendary status outright."
That’s not the case for every being though. While some creatures are born as legendary beasts, some start from a lower rank and grow up to be legendary.
