Chapter 103: The blue egg
-Swiiiiiiiiiiiiiiish...
"What is this?"
"An egg."
"Yes but, what kind of bird has such a biiiiiiiig egg?"
The gift of the emperor to the youngest child of the Sungrade was an egg. A blue egg that was as big as her head.
"No one knows, little one. It’s a mysterious egg."
"Mysterious...?" There were literal stars shining in her eyes right now.
It was quite funny to the imperial maid, the high elf.
"Yes, it’s a mystery to all of us. The emperor has had this for a long time, and no one has been able to hatch it.
They say it only hatches when it finds someone that’s right."
Not all of what the maid told her was true, but not everything was false either. They did know what kind of creature would come from it, however, not the type.
This was a Dreamfay’s egg, a spiritual creature that took up a unique form depending on the one who manages to hatch it.
It was a known fact among the schoolers that the Dreamfay only reacted to someone with a uniquely blessed talent.
In the current world, only the so-called blessed people had a Dreamfay companion. And it just so happens that the youngest of the Sungrades was one such talent.
"Wow..."
-Swiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiish...
If the countless presents she had received today, this seemed like the best one.
She surely liked all the dresses, and jewellery, and toys, and caged animals she had received from the people, but, this simple looking egg was by far the most amazing present.
The cages creatures were trapped by the ones who brought them here so she wished for them to be released.
However, her mothers advised her that it’d be better for them to raise the creatures in their cradles.
Alex liked that idea as well, so she agreed to it. This egg, however, was a different story.
If she hatches it, she could keep it. She would be like a mother to whatever comes from it, so she was pretty excited about it.
"Do you like this, young lady?"
"Yes~!"
Alex had liked spending time with this elf lady. She was like her big sister Leha.
Alex could tell this one was older, but they were both elves.
Her spirit friends like the elves. They told her how the elves were closer to nature than the other beings.
The spirits liked elves and the so-called spirit arts was also something they had originally developed.
"Oho?" The maid had been with Alex for quite some time now even though they met many other people in the meantime and accepted different gifts from them.
"I finally found you."
They had their share of fun playing together, but the person that had been searching for his dear young sister had finally found her in the inner corridor of the ground floor of the castle.
-Swiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiish.
"Big brother Sam~!"
When Sam appeared there, Alex quickly freed her hand from the Maid and ran up to him, hugging him the very next moment.
She had missed her. And, the brother had also missed his innocent sister.
"Meow!"
"Miii...!"
Felix was the first one to hiss at the maid, and then it was Art.
When Sam looked at her, at the wicked things she was up to, only anger had remained in his eyes.
Envy was one thing...
-Ooooooooong!
But gluttonous desires could get even a high elf like her killed someday.
{ "Mind your business, slave of the Topaz Turtle." }
She heard a voice inside her head when Sam’s red eyes turned a glowing blue for a moment, and in what seemed like the very next moment, they turned Pink.
By the time they returned to their usual red, the calm expression of the imperial maid had become dark, dreadful.
She was trying something that she should not, especially to the youngest child of the Sungrades.
If their father were here, regardless of her position as the head maid and one of the strongest knights of the empire, she would be burning down in green flames right now.
Her old age and shackled will were better off in the imperial castle. She could do what she wanted with those people... here, however, even the smallest of mistakes would cost her dearly.
"Hmm?"
He hugged his little sister, surprising her for a moment.
This was his statement.
Just like this time, if she tries anything funny with her family, she would have to suffer the worst moments of her life a thousand times, in a bitter and never ending loop that could certainly go on for longer than she had lived.
He could do that.
"Everyone has been looking for you, you know? We have to go now, Alex."
"Oh? Okay~."
He could take care of her, but she wasn’t his blood to spill.
Just like in his past life... she will have what is coming for her.
"Bi-bye Miss maid~! Please tell my thank you to the emperor~."
The emperor’s gift was nice, Sam would thank him for something so precious as well. But, he would not tell him about what this one tried today.
It wasn’t his mercy. If anything, his silence will only bring her worse pain.
And that was exactly what she deserved...
He picked the little girl up and walked away towards the main hall, leaving the high elf to her misery.
-Thud.
She had been blankly staring at the two of them. To Alex, the maid looked normal so she just went away after saying her goodbye, but the dread in her actual face was real.
One cannot put what she had gone through into words.
The youngest boy of the Sungrades... she knew he was a strange one the moment she saw him for the first time.
He was special, she could tell. But there was no one as special as this little girl.
She was so special that the few moments that she was supposed to spend with her became much longer.
Her true emotions, something she had stored away deep inside her, got the best of her.
She tried to do something to a child that she should never have. She just wanted a taste... but what she tasted for slipping up was a decade long torture.
The worst one she would ever face.
She had no idea how that boy did it or what he did, but she knew one thing: he was dangerous.
-Swiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiish.
Even the winds knew it.
And they loved that display of possessiveness.
"Chirp."
The white bird that had been running around the entire castle chasing something had reached the corridor now.
He could tell his master and the other two were here with his youngest sister. He could tell that much and that meant nothing to him right now.
What he was doing here was the same as what he had been doing all this time.
Chasing the winds.
"Chirp!"
-Swiiiiiiiiiiiiiish...
The gust of wind blew past the fallen maid lost in the aftershocks of her despite.
"Chirp...!"
And Nyx just jumped past her body, landing a strike on her head in the process.
He didn’t know what had happened here, but he didn’t like this long eared woman.
She was ugly.
He just couldn’t like someone like her.
