Chapter 116: Recovering by the fire
-Swiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiish...
It’s been an hour since the storm cleared up.
"Meow."
I have also called Felix out now that we have found a safe place.
The island doesn’t seem to have any habitation but even though there are no people here, there are many plants and creatures on this island.
It’s still a small island though, so we won’t be staying here for much longer.
-Crrrrkt. Crrrkt.
There’s a fire crackling right beside us as drops of water glisten down from the glass like magic tent that I set up here after arriving on the island.
The entire tent was being projected from a sphere like device so it was pretty easy to cary around.
With the help of the five other spheres, it made a perfect temporary stronghold that you can use anytime you want... once.
Being consumable was its only limitation but thankfully, we still have a bunch of them on us.
When I told the Ladies I have packed enough, I meant it.
The storage ring was more of a storage warehouse instead of a ’box’ so there’s seemingly an endless amount of supplies inside of it.
{ "What will we do now, master?" }
Felix and I have been talking for some time now.
I have thanked her, hugged her, and kissed her for everything she did when I was unconscious. If not for her, both of us would be dead by now, and that wasn’t a small thing.
I made her something good to eat as well. She had been hungry all this time... and I was as well.
Being hungry seemed so good for some reason. There was a strange thought in my head right now: what would it feel like to not be hungry even after not eating for several weeks?
It was a strange thought but I don’t know the answer to that. I am hungry and I have food. And for that, I am grateful to all the powers in the world.
We at least don’t have to worry about food and water. I have enough of that at the very least.
"We were going to the academy and we are still going to the academy." Looking at Felix with a bitter smile, I pulled out my Az-map from the storage ring. "We shouldn’t be too far from the nearest inhabited island."
Channeling some energy into the map, I looked out for the outline of the sea and any surrounding islands.
"Hmm..."
According to what I see on the map, there are some more uninhabited islands some distance from here, the last one having a desert, and beyond that is the connective sea which directly connects to a major island.
Once we reach there, we should be able to get to the academy.
’I hope the rest of them are alright.’
Lexie is there so I don’t have to worry about the boys and Art will take care of the headmaster.
Knowing her, she will dig up the entire world to find me now that I revealed the bits about the future to her, but she doesn’t have to get involved herself.
This was an incident caused by natural causes.
The people that were on the ship should already know who saved them by now so causing a commotion using my name would only disturb the good flow of things.
I will need two more days to get to the inhabited island from here, and most of that will be an on-feet journey.
The more time I waste, the longer it will take to reach the destination. So, for the sake of efficiency, I will move as quickly as I can.
"Hopefully, things aren’t too complicated when we get there."
I have no idea what is going on out there. Maybe Nyx is causing a commotion right now, maybe Art has gone off on her own. It is possible that Lexie is out in the sea with Rainin as well.
Knowing the two, they must have gone to any of the locations where I might have been.
’They are foolish enough to go to the cloud as well, but those things wouldn’t be there anymore.’
Since they got a big meal, they would change their location.
If they meet a different cloud in the way, they would merge with it or divide randomly. Their nature and behavior is so random there will be a completely independent study just on their randomness in the future.
"Meow..." This island doesn’t have anything eye-catching but, the sea did have many unique things.
Felix even saw the merfolks, the deadliest creatures of the sea and something even the headmaster hates.
They are the strongest species in the water. And at the same time, one of the worst creatures in human eyes.
"Felix." She was tired and staying in the essence card was only helpful for the body.
For her mind, napping besides me was the most relieving.
She was brave to have held off even when there were so many things that scared her off.
The level of calm and ingenuity she showed when I was unconscious, as I have derived from her stories, was simply unbelievable.
I’m always glad she’s a partner of mine, a friend, a companion.
-Crkt. Crrrrkt...
The fire was warm while her body was cold.
Since the sky was clear now, the blue above looked pretty refreshing.
I am better as well. I feel stronger now.
Maybe it’s just my imagination, or perhaps I did get stronger. Whatever the case may be, I am happy at least.
I have someone with me here, someone who would do all those things those dumb students of mine did without any survival instincts getting in their way.
’It’s strange...’
How can someone put their lives on the line just to save someone else?
I’m not even that special and yet, be it Felix or the ones who fell at the last island alongside me, all the people who try to fight for me end up getting hurt too much.
’It’s not enough.’
The Cloud of Hate isn’t an impossible threat. It did not exist during the time of fall... something worse like it surely did, but the Cloud itself was defeated before the fall.
It is possible, just not with the strength I have right now.
