Chapter 326: One Would Rather Die Than Eat The Food Handed Out In Contempt
After failing to move out that day, Yvonne could only stay in the Lakeside Apartment for the time being.
However, she did not give up the idea of moving out.
She came up with a way not to bump into James
At most, she wouldn’t go out for the next two days. Anyway, it was the weekend, so she didn’t have to go to work.
Considering this, she did not continue to dwell on it.
James stayed at home for a long time. When he saw that there was no movement from the opposite apartment, he called the property management company to have the elevator restored to normal operation.
At the same time, he realized that he would not be able to shut down the elevator for long if he insisted on it. After all, there were still other residents who needed to use the elevator.
Thinking of this, he figured out another solution, so he immediately called his assistant.
Yvonne stayed at home for most of the day. During this period, she had secretly gone out to check the elevator several times, but it still broke down every time she went out to check. Gradually, she stopped checking it.
When it was almost evening, she was a little hungry. She searched in the room for a long time but could not find anything to eat, so she wanted to order a takeout. Just as she picked up her cell phone, she remembered that the elevator had broken down. Since she lived on the 17th floor, how could the takeout be delivered?
It was indeed a problem that gave her a headache. She put down the phone as she thought about it. Just as she was feeling depressed, her phone rang. It was a call from the realtor.
She answered the phone.
"Miss White, I’m sorry. The landlord has temporarily taken back the house you signed with us. We will transfer the rent back to your bank card as soon as possible. Please forgive us for the inconvenience."
"Hello..."
Before Yvonne could speak, the realtor hung up.
Hearing the beep from the other end of the line, she was dumbfounded.
She wondered what was going on.
How could they go back on their words after signing the contract?
She was speechless.
Was this an unlucky year for her?
Just when she was depressed, the doorbell rang suddenly.
She was stunned. As the elevator broke down, who would come to see her? She paused and went to open the door, only to find James standing at the door.
When Yvonne saw James, she could not help but recall how he had licked her earlobe last night, and she immediately became alert.
"What are you doing here?" She asked warily.
James, however, took a glance at her room. "As the elevator is broken, we can’t go out. Are you hungry?"
Yvonne frowned. "I’m not hungry."
Just as she was about to close the door, James stopped her and said, "I’m hungry. Shall we eat together?"
As he spoke, he deliberately raised the paper bag with food in his hand.
Yvonne frowned. Just as she was about to say no, her stomach growled.
She immediately looked embarrassed.
Seeing this, James smiled, walked directly past her, and stepped into her apartment.
It was too late for Yvonne to stop him, so she could only go after him.
She watched James walk into her room and said, "James, go out now, or I’ll call the police."
Hearing this, James raised the paper bag in his hand with a smile and said, "Call the police then and ask them to bring some food. Otherwise, they will be hungry when they arrived on the 17th floor on foot."
"You..."
How could he still be in the mood to joke around? Yvonne was furious.
At that time, James walked to the dining room, took out the food in the paper bags, and placed them one by one. Looking at the delicious food on the table, Yvonne could not help but swallow.
She hadn’t eaten much today. Moreover, she had consumed a lot of her energy because of moving house. Thus, she was starving right now. As she looked at the food, she couldn’t resist the temptation at all.
However, she endured it even though she was hungry.
As the saying goes, "One would rather die than eat the food handed out in contempt." Moreover, she had her pride.
Thinking of this, she averted her eyes.
James put the food on a plate and looked up in her direction, only to find her standing there motionless.
...
James frowned and asked, "Aren’t you hungry? Why are you still standing there?"
Yvonne looked away and did not look at him. "When did I say I am hungry?"
Hearing this, James did not continue. Instead, he smiled knowingly to see how long she could last.
He simply pulled out a chair and sat down. Facing the food on the plate, he began to eat with relish.
While eating, he couldn’t help praising it.
"Yummy. These are so delicious."
Yvonne stood aside and covered her ears while hearing his words.
"If you want to eat it, go back to your home and eat. You’re not welcome here," said she.
James remained unmoved.
"It’s boring to eat alone. It’s better to share food with others. I don’t mind sharing some of my food with you." He spoke in a playful manner.
"But I do mind." Yvonne cut him off.
James smiled and said nothing. He glanced at her meaningfully and then walked over with a plate of food. He stopped in front of her, deliberately shaking the plate in front of her and tempting her. He said, "You really don’t want to eat?"
Although Yvonne was so tempted by the food that she swallowed, she endured hunger and said, "I don’t."
Seeing that she was stubborn, James frowned and said, "If that’s the case, I’ll eat them all. Don’t regret it."
After he finished speaking, he saw that Yvonne was still standing there motionlessly. He could not help but sigh to himself. Then, he picked up the only piece of pastry on the plate and pretended to take a bite.
"You..." Seeing this, Yvonne was about to stop him, but before she could open her mouth, a piece of delicious pastry was stuffed into her mouth. She was suddenly shocked, only to see James withdraw his hand with a cunning look on his face.
Yvonne, who was already starving, was suddenly fed a piece of pastry. She couldn’t eat it or spit it out, so she glared at him angrily.
James looked innocent as if he hadn’t put the pastry into her mouth. Instead, it seemed as if the pastry had directly flown into her mouth.
"In my opinion, no matter who you are fighting with, don’t go against your stomach." He said knowingly.
After saying that, he put the empty plate in her hand and turned to walk toward the
door.
Yvonne stood there with the plate in her hands. It was not until James left that she hurried back to the kitchen with the plate. Looking at the leftover food, she thought, "It is not only right to refuse to eat handouts but also shameful to waste food."
Therefore, she didn’t go back on her words but ate the food in order not to waste them.
With such thoughts in mind, she sat down at the dining table.
However, just as she was about to start eating, the doorbell rang again. She was stunned and thought, "Could it be James is back?"
Thinking of this, she hurriedly put the food back and hastily put them back to the original place before walking to the door to open it.
"Why did you..."
She was just about to say "why are you here again" when she saw that it was Janice standing outside.
She could not help but freeze.
"Janice? Why do you come here?"
Seeing her shocked expression, Janice said, "Who do you think it is if not me?"
Yvonne, on the other hand, felt embarrassed.
Janice explained, "Didn’t you say that you’re moving out in the next two days? I came to see if there’s anything I can do for you."
Only then did Yvonne remember that after finding the new apartment, she had mentioned it to Janice. She said, "Well, I’m going to move out. But..."
"But what?"
Seeing that Yvonne was only halfway through her words, Janice pursued the matter.
...
Yvonne was just about to say that the elevator was broken when she suddenly thought of something and asked, "That’s not right. How... how did you come up here?"
Janice replied, "I took the elevator, of course."
"Isn’t the elevator broken?" Yvonne was still surprised.
"No, it was fine when I just took the elevator," said Janice.
Yvonne, however, found it hard to believe. She walked to the elevator and gave it a try. Then she found that the elevator was really operating normally, so she couldn’t help but feel a little surprised.
She thought, "Could it be that it had been fixed?"
"What’s wrong?"
When Janice saw Yvonne staring at the elevator in a daze, she asked Yvonne in confusion.
Only then did Yvonne gather her thoughts and say, "It’s nothing. Let’s go inside."
When Janice followed her into the room, she noticed that there were a few plates of pastries on the table and asked in astonishment, "You’re only eating these for dinner?"
Yvonne looked a bit embarrassed.
"Yes."
"That won’t do. At least, you need to have a proper meal."
Yvonne did not want Janice to know that it was left by James, so she stammered, "I...
want to lose weight."
"Lose weight? These foods are for you to gain weight, right?" Janice laughed.
Yvonne still looked embarrassed.
Janice did not continue. "By the way, let me know when you move out. I’ll get someone to help you."
Yvonne replied, "You don’t have to. I may not be able to move out for the time being."
"Ah? Why? Didn’t you say that you’ve found an apartment?"
Yvonne frowned. "The landlord suddenly stopped renting the apartment."
"I see. What are you going to do then?" asked Janice.
Yvonne replied, "I can only stay here for a few days. I will move out after I find a new apartment."
"Alright. You can stay here as long as you want," said Janice.
Yvonne nodded.
"By the way, did you come here alone?"
"I came here with my husband, but he’s next door," Janice replied.
However, the corners of Yvonne’s mouth twitched.
In the house next door.
James welcomed Christopher, the big shot.
"Why are you here?"
Normally, James would not even be able to invite him over.
Christopher said, "It’s because you forced Miss White to move out. My wife is worried, so she insisted on coming here to take a look."
James snorted and said, "What do you mean I forced her to move out? I did nothing."
"You didn’t do anything, but she can’t stand living here anymore," said Christopher.
James was speechless. "So you’re here to laugh at me?"
He snorted.
Christopher chuckled. "I’m not that bored. I just want to tell you something."
"What is it?" asked James.
Christopher said, "The Bateman Group will propose cooperation with Taylor Corporation soon. You have to be careful."
"What do you mean?" James was confused.
Christopher said, "In short, there has been turmoil in the Bateman Group recently. It’s not the best time to cooperate at the moment."
Hearing what he said, James could tell what he meant. "You’re fighting against your father." He teased.
Christopher, however, sneered and said, "It’s not like that, but it’s true that I hold back a trick or two. In short, that’s all I can say. Believe it or not, it’s up to you."
After saying that, Christopher got up and walked out of the door.
James, however, frowned. He reckoned that Chris was very similar to him at this point. If he fell out with his family, then he would even cut ties with them.
Christopher and Janice were on their way home.
Remembering that Christopher had told her earlier that he had something to talk to James about, Janice asked, "What did you want to talk to James about?"
Christopher replied, "It’s just something about work."
"I see."
Janice did not ask any more questions. She hesitated for a moment and then asked, "Has Joey come to find you recently?"
Hearing this, Christopher turned to look at her. "No. What’s wrong? Did he come to you?"
