Chapter 317: You Did It?
A man with a better background than the Whites would be the object of marriage, and a woman would have to be her best friend.
It was as if she was born to befriend the rich and powerful.
It was a pity that she had been rebellious since she was a child and never let them get what they wanted.
This time was no exception.
Thinking of this, Yvonne picked up her handbag and stood up.
"I’m full. I’m leaving."
She turned around and was about to leave.
"Sit down."
Grace said.
Yvonne stopped but did not look over.
Grace said, "Brant, this is a family banquet, and I shouldn’t have said that. However, since Yvonne has returned, then I have no choice but to say that the White Enterprise is in a bad state now. As the eldest daughter of the White family, Yvonne ought to bear the responsibility. But.. this isn’t too good, right?"
After saying that, Grace winked at Lisa and Jane and they chimed in.
"Yes, the other children are still young, and they need someone to set an example."
"Brant, what they said is correct. How about we use her as an example?"
"This..."
Brant looked a little embarrassed as he glanced at Yvonne.
"Yvonne..."
When Yvonne heard her name, she interrupted, "I’ve already said that I won’t be a tool for you to use me in marriage. She can do whatever she wants. Why do I have to be involved?"
As she spoke, she looked at Grace provocatively.
Grace’s face was full of disdain.
"What tool of marriage? You will get happiness and also benefit our family. How can you say such bad things about such a perfect solution? If it’s as you say, all the rich families’ children are tools."
"Of course, you are an example." Yvonne sneered.
Grace didn’t expect Yvonne to turn the table on her. She was stunned for a moment
before saying unnaturally, "I’m talking about you, not me. Besides, I’m your aunt, you can’t lecture me."
Grace gave her a hard stare.
Yvonne turned a blind eye to it.
"Yes, you are indeed my aunt, but you are also a member of the family. Logically speaking, you should be the example, not me."
"You..."
"As the saying goes, a chip off the old block. I’ve learned all of this from you."
Before Grace could finish her words, Yvonne interrupted her.
"You..."
Grace was so angry that her face turned red.
Grace’s face made Yvonne happy. She turned around in a good mood and was about to leave when a hard object suddenly smashed into the back of her head.
Yvonne felt a sharp pain and covered her head with her hand.
"Who did this?"
Yvonne turned around and glared at her family angrily. Everyone lowered their heads and avoided her gaze, except for Grace, who had a triumphant smile.
Yvonne understood and glared at her. "Was it you?"
Grace did not deny. "So what if I did it? You have no respect for your elders and actually dared to teach me a lesson. I shall teach you a lesson on behalf of your mother."
Grace said arrogantly.
Yvonne gritted her teeth.
She stared at Grace with hatred. It would have been fine if her mother was not mentioned, but now she couldn’t control herself. She raised her hand and threw her handbag at Grace’s face.
"What right do you have to teach me a lesson on behalf of my mother? Who do you think you are?"
Grace covered her face, gritting her teeth as she glared at Yvonne.
...
"How dare you hit me? You little bitch, how dare you hit me?"
As Grace scolded her, she disregarded her image and charged forward to tug at Yvonne’s hair.
Yvonne retaliated hard, and the two of them tore into each other.
Brant hurriedly moved forward to stop them but their battle was too intense, and he was utterly unable to interfere.
He turned towards his brothers and asked.
"What are you waiting for? Come and help me pull them apart.
Only then did the few of them slowly stand up and pull the two of them apart.
Grace’s hair was in a mess, and there were a lot of bruises on her face. She looked awful.
Yvonne was not much better off, but she still looked better than Grace.
Grace’s always had a strong character, how could she be willing to accept this? She continued to struggle, but she was pulled back by everyone.
"Yvonne White, just you wait. I won’t let you off."
Grace was pulled upstairs by the crowd.
Yvonne stood there listening to Grace’s scolding and sneered.
"Just wait and see. If there’s a second time, I won’t show you any mercy." After Grace was taken upstairs, only Yvonne and Brant were left downstairs. Brant looked at Yvonne, who was in a mess, and walked to her. "Yvonne, how could you hit your aunt? She is your senior, after all."
As Brant spoke, he raised his hand to help her tidy up her hair, but Yvonne dodged. She said coldly, "That would require her to behave like an aunt."
"Yvonne..."
Brant wanted to say something but was interrupted by Yvonne.
"You don’t have to say anything We fought. There’s nothing to say."
"You... why are you so stubborn?"
Brant sighed helplessly.
Yvonne did not want to continue talking to him. She only said, "I’ll be leaving first." After that, she turned around to leave.
"Wait a minute, apply some ointment on your face before you go."
Brant said behind her.
Yvonne sneered internally. The wound in her heart was worse than the wound on her face.
She had always thought that Brant was just soft-hearted, but now she found that she was wrong. He was weak, a coward who couldn’t even protect his wife and daughter.
She despised him!
"No need."
She said in a cold voice and strode out of the door without looking back.
Brant stood there and watched her leave. After a while, he sighed helplessly.
When Yvonne returned home, it was already past eight o’clock in the evening.
When she came out of the White family’s house, she went to the lake for some fresh air and felt better. However, as soon as she opened the door, she heard James’ voice behind her.
"Just came home?"
Yvonne did not turn around. She merely nodded and pushed open the door to enter.
James looked at her and felt strange.
Usually, when he talked to her, she would say a few words, but tonight, she didn’t say a word.
This wasn’t like her.
Thinking of this, he walked over and knocked on her door.
Yvonne heard the knock before she could change her shoes.
She opened the door irritably. When she saw James, she frowned and asked, "What’s the matter?"
James glanced at her. Unfortunately, only half of her face was exposed through the slightly opened door. He could not see anything and said, "I remember that I put a bottle of wine at your place and I want to drink it."
Yvonne frowned and asked, "Really? What kind of wine is it? Why can’t I remember?"
...
James thought for a moment and said, "I’ll go in and look for it myself. It’s been too long and I forgot."
Yvonne could only open the door and let him in.
James walked in. He stopped in front of the wine cabinet. Although he said he was looking for wine, his eyes were fixed on Yvonne.
But he found that she hung her head and did not look at him since he came in.
He found it increasingly strange and decided not to look at the wine. Instead, he walked up to her.
"Is something wrong?"
Hearing his question, Yvonne quickly shifted her face to the side.
"It’s nothing. Take your wine and go."
As she spoke, she turned and walked to the kitchen.
James felt that something was wrong, so he quickly caught up with her.
Yvonne could not avoid him and could only cover her face. However, James still saw the scar on her face.
His face instantly darkened.
"Who did it?"
Yvonne felt embarrassed. She turned around and said, "Stop asking and go back."
James straightened her shoulders.
"If you don’t explain it clearly, I won’t leave. Tell me who hurt you."
"So what if I tell you? Do you want to avenge me?" Yvonne smiled bitterly and said, "Well, James, stop asking."
Seeing that she was not willing to tell him, James did not force her. He slowly let go and said, "Well, I won’t ask. How about we have a drink?"
He glanced at her invitingly.
Yvonne did not refuse. If it were in the past, she would not have agreed, but she was really in a bad mood tonight. She really needed to find someone to have a drink with.
Seeing that she had agreed, James turned to the wine cabinet to get the wine and two glasses. He poured the wine into each glass, then he handed one drink to her, clinking glasses gently with hers.
"Come on, let’s drink and forget everything."
Yvonne smiled bitterly. If only there really was such good wine.
She clinked glasses with James, raised her head, and drank it.
When James saw that she downed the drink, he knew that she must be in a bad mood today. He paused and said, "In fact, sometimes, it’s better to say what’s on your mind."
"I don’t have anything on my mind. I just want to drink. Can’t I? Did you come to me for a drink today because you have something on your mind?"
Yvonne retorted.
Hearing her words, James could not help frowning.
After a short while, he said, "How about this? Let’s talk about our secrets. For the sake of fairness, I’ll say it first, and then you. What do you think?"
Yvonne thought for a moment and nodded.
"Okay."
Seeing that she had agreed, James scratched his head and said, "Let’s talk about something that happened when I was in school. I remember that there was a school outing. I was in a hurry that day and forgot to bring snacks. When I got in the car, I found that everyone else was each carrying a large bag of snacks, and only I was empty-handed. At that time, I felt particularly embarrassed, so I secretly ate a schoolmate’s whole bag of snacks. She was sleeping like a pig and didn’t wake up from beginning to end."
James laughed, but when he saw that Yvonne was a little angry, he stopped laughing.
"Why are you not laughing? I’ve never told anyone about this secret."
Yvonne paused for a moment before asking, "Which school were you from?"
