Chapter 337: Why Are You So Stubborn?
James narrowed his eyes and walked towards the figure.
However, before he could get closer, he heard a burst of suppressed crying. It seemed that she was trying her best to control the sound, it still reached his ears.
James frowned.
Even without seeing it with his own eyes, he could tell that Yvonne was crying.
Thus, he stopped and stood silently behind her.
Yvonne leaned against the corner of the wall and cried softly.
She didn’t want to cry, but she just couldn’t control herself.
Especially when she thought that she had been deceived by Stanley for so long and almost lost her savings for him, she felt even more uncomfortable.
She treated him so carefully, but she didn’t expect him to be such a scumbag.
The more she thought about it, the more uncomfortable she felt. She couldn’t stop her tears from flowing.
Suddenly, someone handed her a tissue. She took it without thinking. When she wiped her tears, she suddenly returned to her senses and turned to look. When she saw James standing behind her, she was stunned for a moment. Then she quickly organized her emotions and pretended that nothing had happened.
"Why are you following me?"
James saw through her and asked, "Are you all right?"
"I’m fine, of course I’m OK."
She pretended that nothing had happened.
It was as if the person who had cried was not her.
James knew that she wanted to save face, so he didn’t expose her. Instead, he said, "Since you’re OK, let’s go back. I’ll drive you home."
"No need, I’ll go back by myself," she refused.
He said, "I’ll be worried. Let’s go."
As he spoke, he tried to pull her arm, but she broke free from his grasp.
"I don’t want you to worry. Let go of me."
James could do nothing to her.
"Why are you so stubborn?" He roared in a bad tone.
She was also annoyed by his roar.
"Then what else do you want me to do? Do you want me to admit that I was stupid before?" Her eyes were red as she spoke.
Seeing this, James panicked.
"That’s not what I meant."
"Then what do you mean?" Yvonne sniffed and said, "You just want to see me make a fool of myself, don’t you? Yes, I lost. I lost so badly that I hate myself. Are you satisfied?"
After saying that, she covered her mouth and ran away, crying.
James was stunned for a moment and quickly caught up with her. However, when he caught up with her, she was already in a taxi.
Watching the taxi drive away in front of him, he could only quickly return to his own car and drive after it.
In the taxi, Yvonne sat there and kept wiping her tears.
She admitted that she had not listened to him before, which was why she had been deceived so badly.
However, she wanted to save face. "Why does he insist on following me and forcing me to admit the mistake?"
The more she thought about it, the sadder she became. Tears kept rolling down her cheeks.
The driver looked at her through the rearview mirror and asked with concern, "Miss, what’s going on? Did you quarrel with your boyfriend?"
She did not say anything. When she heard the word "boyfriend", she cried even harder.
Seeing this, the driver quickly said, "Don’t cry, don’t cry. I won’t say it again."
When the driver had just finished speaking, he saw a black Rolls-Royce chasing after him.
....
Seeing that the car was only driving parallel to his car and had no intention of surpassing him, the driver instantly understood. He then said, "Miss, is the man in that car your boyfriend? Do you need me to stop the car?"
Hearing this, Yvonne wiped her tears and looked out of the window. She saw a Rolls-Royce, which was driving side by side with the taxi. She knew the car belonged to James.
"No need. Please find a way to shake off him."
The driver laughed, "Little girl, you think too highly of me. With my car, I can’t shake off him."
Yvonne then said, "I’ll give you another 30 dollars. Think of a way to shake off him." Hearing her words, the driver was a little tempted. "Okay, I’ll think of a way."
Therefore, at the fork in the road, the driver turned the steering wheel unexpectedly and turned into an alley nearby. James didn’t react in time.
Therefore, she successfully got rid of James. Not long after, the taxi stopped in front of a bar.
Yvonne paid as promised. After getting out of the car, she walked towards the bar.
When she was in a bad mood, she always came to this bar to drown her sorrows.
She walked in and went straight to the counter to take a bottle of whiskey she had left here before.
After the bartender got the wine, she took the glass and went to a corner.
But now that Janice has a baby, I could no longer complain to her like before. And I could only come here and drink alone.>
The more she thought about it, the more depressed she became. She drank one glass after another.
However, she did not notice at all that there was a pair of eyes watching her from nearby. As for that person, it was her aunt, Grace White.
Grace made an appointment at the bar with others tonight, but she didn’t expect to meet her niece here.
Grace hated her very much.
When she thought of how Yvonne had quarreled with her, Grace could not take it.
Seeing that she was drinking one glass after another in a bad mood, Grace had the urge to tease her. Thus, she explained a bit to her friend and walked toward Yvonne with the wine glass in her hand.
"What’s wrong? Why are you drinking alone?"
Just as Yvonne was drinking happily, a voice suddenly came from above her head. She looked up and saw that it was her aunt, Grace White. She frowned and said, "Why I can’t drink when I am alone?"
Grace did not care about her attitude. She sat opposite her and sneered, "Could it be that you were dumped by a man, so you came here alone to drink and heal yourself?"
Her words were full of sarcasm.
Yvonne didn’t mind and let her continue.
Seeing that she ignored her, Grace said, "Last time, you went to tell your dad that I didn’t give you dividends?"
"Am I not telling the truth?"
Yvonne didn’t want to talk with her.
Grace smiled and said, "That’s right. You are telling the truth. However, don’t you feel ashamed to take the dividends from the White Enterprise?"
Yvonne found it interesting and asked, "Why am I ashamed?"
...
Grace snorted, "Do you think someone unwilling to make contributions is qualified to do so?"
Yvonne understood her words. Grace blamed her for not marrying the rich man her family had requested.
She snorted, "If you think that selling myself and exchanging my body for money would make me qualified, then you are not qualified to have the dividend, aren’t you?"
"You..."
Grace did not expect her to bring this up again. She hated people who brought up her being single. Now her niece, who never took her seriously, was saying so, which made her even angrier.
However, thinking that this was a public place, she didn’t want to embarrass herself, so she endured it.
She sneered, "Fine, I won’t argue with you today. In short, don’t even think about getting dividends from me."
Then she picked up her glass and turned to leave with hatred.
Yvonne didn’t care at all and continued to drink her wine.
When Grace returned to her seat, the more she thought about it, the angrier she became. After all, she was Yvonne’s aunt, and in addition to Yvonne, no one in the White family dared to talk back to her like this.
At the thought of this, a vicious idea came to Grace’s mind.
"Since she refuses a toast only to drink a forfeit, I couldn’t be blamed."
Then Grace smiled sinisterly. She said to her male business partner, "I’ll send you a big gift, do you want it?"
After Grace left, Yvonne only felt that it was ridiculous.
Even if there will be the reward for merit, every shareholder should be treated equally first. Why doesn’t she focus on those useless parasites? Why should she only target me?>
The more she thought about it, the more she felt that there was nothing good about herself. Her family was in a mess, her career was not going well, and now she was being toyed with by others.
Ever since she was a child, she had never had anything that was satisfactory for her. The more she thought about it, the worse her mood became. She kept pouring wine into her glass until she drank up a bottle of whiskey. She put the bottle down angrily.
"Now I can’t even drink the wine?" Yvonne thought.
"Hello, waiter, I want more wine."
As soon as she finished speaking, a cocktail was placed in front of her. Yvonne looked up in a daze and saw a middle-aged man in a suit.
She was dazed. "Who are you?"
The man’s lustful eyes fell on her snow-white neck and he impatiently said, "Beauty, this glass is on me."
She glanced at the cocktail. Although she had drunk a lot and her mind was not good, she was still wary of the wine sent by a strange man.
"I have wine myself," she said.
However, the man approached her and whispered, "Yours is different from mine. Try it if you don’t believe me."
There was more or less a hint of temptation in his words.
Yvonne felt a little nauseous and pushed him away.
"I never drink wine given by strangers. Go away."
The man staggered from the sudden push and lost his patience. "Don’t be so sure."
As he spoke, he gave a look to the waiter, who came over with a bottle of whiskey.
"The whiskey you ordered."
Yvonne did not notice their abnormal behavior and thought that the wine she had ordered had arrived. She poured herself a glass defenselessly and drank it.
When the man saw that she had finished the wine, his lips curled into a victorious smile. He turned around and walked away.
