Chapter 1373 - 1387: The Life She Wants
What she hadn’t expected was that when she turned eighteen, Sun Xuehui still refused to let her go.
Until Mu Xingfeng appeared.
She’d always thought of herself as nothing more than an ordinary, pitiful nobody. If she had any merits at all, it was probably just that so-called kindness.
She had no idea what it was about her that could make Mu Xingfeng see her differently and treat her differently.
But she knew that only when she was with him did she feel like she actually had a self, like she was living as a person, and not just a puppet for others to manipulate at will.
...
A night of heavy drinking left Xiao Xiao’s brain briefly blank. Only when she opened her eyes and saw the room clearly did she realize she was already back at the Lin Family. It had to be that guy Lin Junyang who’d dragged her back.
Looked like this time she hadn’t puked in his car. She clearly remembered that man’s vicious "warning" that if she threw up in his car again, he’d toss her out.
Guess she’d really been lucky yesterday.
Xiao Xiao shook her head with a self-mocking smile and rolled out of bed.
The clothes on her body had already been changed into pajamas, and she wasn’t the least bit worried about who had changed them for her or anything like that.
She pulled open the curtains. The blinding sunlight poured in, making her instinctively raise a hand to shield her eyes.
Uh, she really had gotten up pretty late today. It had to be past nine by now.
Xiao Xiao sighed inwardly. And to think she was still living at the Lin Family’s, with Grandpa Lin and Mom Lin and Dad Lin all liking her so much. If they saw her lazing around like this every day, they probably wouldn’t even need Lin Junyang to say anything; they themselves wouldn’t tolerate a daughter-in-law like her, right?
Everyone in the Lin Family kept a good daily routine. None of them slept in.
After sighing, she gave another self-deprecating smile. What was she even thinking? How could someone like her ever become the Lin Family’s daughter-in-law?
When she looked up again, she saw someone walking down the corridor bathed in the morning light. Just from that peacock-like outfit, she didn’t even need a closer look to know it was Young Master Sun.
Lin Junyang was flipping through the documents his men had delivered to him early that morning.
Ever since he got home last night, the image of Xie Yuting’s fragile appearance kept surfacing in his mind—like a lily in a storm, so delicate, so helpless.
He’d told himself countless times that there was no longer any relationship between them, that she was already another man’s wife and he had no reason to interfere in her life anymore.
But there was always a voice in his heart telling him that she was living unhappily now, that he should understand how her life was going, that at the very least, when she felt helpless, he could reach out a hand to her.
After convincing himself of that, he had his people investigate Xie Yuting’s last few years overnight.
Xie Yuting’s life after marriage was very simple, so simple that by early morning his men had already handed over firsthand information to him.
The documents recorded everything in detail. After getting married, she hadn’t developed any complicated social circle, nor had she taken on any job. She just stayed home and played the role of the wealthy Young Madam.
Lin Junyang knew this was the life she’d wanted.
But when he saw Chen Sheng’s behavior in the last two years, his brows furrowed.
Chen Sheng was different from Gu Haoyu and Sun Wangbei and the others; he was a pure second-generation rich kid.
Although he now held an important position in the company, he’d gotten that seat entirely thanks to his family background and his old man.
And the only reason he’d been able to sit in that position till now was because his father was capable and had paved the way for him. Even so, the company under his management had been going downhill ever since he took over.
On top of that, Chen Sheng was extremely unfaithful, often using overtime at the company as an excuse not to come home at night, going out to mess around with women instead. Actresses, young models—there were too many women he’d been involved with to even count. His private life was an utter mess.
At the wedding yesterday, Chen Sheng received a call from some young model; before the ceremony was even over, he’d ditched Xie Yuting and left, and then didn’t come home all night.
Looking at this kind of information and thinking of Xie Yuting’s helpless eyes yesterday, Lin Junyang’s hand tightened.
Just then a guard came to report, "Young Master, Young Master Sun is here."
The guard knew about the relationship between Lin Junyang and Young Master Sun, Young Master Chen, Young Master Gu, and Young Master Mu. When the few of them came over, they usually just announced it and didn’t stop them. That was per Lin Junyang’s instructions.
Sun Wangbei followed the guard into the room and immediately saw Lin Junyang sitting on the sofa in the living room, brows tightly knit as he read through a stack of documents. He didn’t even need to guess to know what Junyang was looking at.
"Fifth, what are you checking all this for? Don’t tell me you’re just curious."
Lin Junyang lifted his head and looked at the fuming Sun Wangbei at the door. He casually flipped the documents face-down onto the coffee table, then stood up and walked over to greet him.
"Third Brother, you’re a rare guest. What kind of wind blew you over here so early in the morning?"
"Don’t try to dodge me. I’m asking you a question—what are you doing digging into that stuff?" Sun Wangbei brushed past him and went straight to the sofa to sit down.
Lin Junyang stayed where he was, hands shoved into his pockets, looking every bit the idle young master. "I don’t know what Third Brother is talking about. Have you had breakfast this early? If not, I’ll get the servants to make you something. I haven’t eaten either."
"Don’t know? Then what’s all this?" Sun Wangbei said, reaching out to flip that stack of documents over.
By the time Lin Junyang moved to stop him, it was already too late.
Pointing at that stack of documents, Sun Wangbei raised his voice in accusation, "Fifth, what are you doing checking into this? Don’t tell me you’re just bored and reading for fun. That woman who came to you yesterday didn’t have any good intentions."
