Chapter 1349 - 1363: Quite a Spectacle
"Now that this comrade’s spoken up, I really do want to hear it—who did what shady thing that made you hold such a huge grudge."
With Lin Weidong’s permission, Jia Chenggang snapped him another salute before he began to recount the story in detail.
An Ran had been staying by Mu Xingfeng’s side the whole time, and the moment she saw Jia Chenggang, she knew he hadn’t come with good intentions today.
Sure enough, Jia Chenggang first went over the whole Nan’an Guard Team incident with Lin Weidong: how he was eliminated from the Special Training Team, and how Mu Xingfeng abused his position for personal gain, even declaring that he would never again allow him to participate in the Special Training Team selection because of his own selfish desires.
Then he went on about how An Ran supposedly framed a martyr’s orphan and widow, how she drove them to utter misery and still refused to let them go, even using her personal connections to have the widow locked up in the detention center, leaving behind a six-year-old child of the martyr, so pitiful it broke the heart.
Looking at Jia Chenggang’s big rough-hewn frame and listening to his impassioned accusations, An Ran sincerely felt that having him just be some roughneck soldier was really wasting his talent.
What he was truly born to be was a melodrama screenwriter. Just going by the way his mind worked and that gift of gab, he could absolutely create an entire annual award–winning dog-blood family-ethics drama.
Lin Weidong frowned slightly. He had watched Mu Xingfeng grow up; with his character, there was no way he could have done something like that.
Before Lin Weidong could speak, Old Mr. Shen on the other side opened his mouth first.
"Ran, tell Grandpa what’s really going on?"
Although An Ran wasn’t a child he had personally raised, she had Shen blood in her veins. As a child of the Shen Family, how could she possibly do something like that?
He didn’t even need to ask; Old Mr. Shen firmly believed there had to be parts of this story that this man was deliberately leaving out.
And as for locking that widow into the detention center—this man said An Ran had made a phone call to someone. He didn’t even need to think to know who it was; it had to be his own upright, iron-faced son.
If his son was willing to have someone thrown directly into the detention center, how could that be a frame-up or some kind of misunderstanding?
An Ran had just been standing off to the side watching the show, and she hadn’t expected Old Mr. Shen to call on her.
She poked her little head out from behind Mu Xingfeng, face serious. "Grandpa, Captain Jia told it pretty dramatically. It’s true that the Nan’an Guard Team canceled the martyr’s family benefits for Wang Xia and her son, but what he left out is that Xingfeng took care of that mother and son for nearly seven years. Wang Xia always had her son call Mu Xingfeng ’Dad,’ and the child only found out at the Nan’an Guard Team that his real father had already died in the line of duty. Wang Xia even plotted against me and another captain while she was still at the Guard Team. After everything came to light, that was when the Guard Captain kicked her out of the Guard Team and canceled her martyr’s family status. I really don’t get how, once it comes out of Captain Jia’s mouth, it turns into me framing her?"
"How can you call that anything but a frame-up? If it wasn’t, how could you still be sitting here safe and sound? She just had a momentary lapse in judgment—couldn’t you have forgiven her once for the sake of the dead martyr?" Jia Chenggang still couldn’t contain his anger after hearing An Ran’s words.
An Ran’s gaze suddenly turned icy. "Forgive her once? Captain Jia, I don’t think you’re unaware of why Wang Xia ended up at the police station, are you?"
After she spoke, An Ran looked around at all the elders present. "When Wang Xia came back to the Imperial City, she still hadn’t repented. A few days ago, my sister-in-law, Xiao Xiao, and I went to the Kong Mansion Banquet for a meal. It just so happened that Wang Xia was on duty there. She actually put a large dose of Mifepristone into our drinks. Luckily my sister-in-law was vigilant—if we’d drunk those drinks, do I really need to spell out what would have happened?"
