Chapter 1306 - 1320: Admitting Defeat Wholeheartedly
Lin Junyang came out of the bathroom and saw the girl relaxing instantly after Grandpa left the room. Her tense little body loosened, and even her shoulders dropped a little. The corners of her lips curled up unwittingly, as Lin Junyang thought to himself, she’s only brave when Grandpa is around; usually, she retorts quite spiritedly. It’s just him not wanting to argue with her.
Thinking about this, he suddenly recalled the warm sensation on his face from yesterday, touched his face with his hand, and finally shook his head with a smirk.
Old Mr. Lin went out for a while and came back to see that Xiao Xiao and the others had finished eating and were sitting on the sofa watching TV. He asked the guards to set up the chessboard and waved to Xiao Xiao, "Girl, come over here and play chess with Grandpa for a while."
Xiao Xiao had just learned to play chess and was quite addicted. Hearing Old Mr. Lin call her, she tossed aside the remote control and ran over eagerly.
Lin Junyang came downstairs after changing clothes and saw Xiao Xiao playing chess with Grandpa. His expression changed slightly, and he quickened his pace down the stairs.
"When did you learn to play chess?" Lin Junyang asked nonchalantly as he walked behind Xiao Xiao and glanced at the chessboard.
"I just learned yesterday," Xiao Xiao made a move and continued, "Grandpa Lin taught me."
After hearing Xiao Xiao’s words, Lin Junyang secretly breathed a sigh of relief, pulled over a chair, and sat beside her.
Old Mr. Lin had a look of pride on his face. With each move, the smile on his face grew wider, until Xiao Xiao captured three of his pieces in a row, and his smile faded.
Watching Grandpa’s expression change, Lin Junyang felt alarmed. When Xiao Xiao’s horse was about to step on the opponent’s cannon, he reached out and tugged at her sleeve.
Xiao Xiao turned her head to look at Lin Junyang, perplexed, blinking her big innocent eyes and asking, "What’s up?"
"Uh... didn’t your sister say she wanted to take you out today?" Lin Junyang fabricated a flimsy excuse.
But the girl was unaffected, shaking her head, "Nope," she said, then turned her head and noticed that Grandpa Lin’s chariot was in trouble, her big eyes squinting again, "Grandpa Lin, your chariot is about to be taken."
Seeing Grandpa’s chariot about to be captured, which would doom the game, Lin Junyang intervened to stop Xiao Xiao’s hand, "Grandpa didn’t see clearly just now, wait for Grandpa to change a move."
Xiao Xiao was bewildered and about to put down the chess piece, when Old Mr. Lin slapped the table with a smack.
"What are you saying, kid? A true gentleman doesn’t regret moves in chess. When have you ever seen Grandpa regret a move?" After chastising Lin Junyang, he continued to talk to Xiao Xiao, "Girl, don’t listen to this kid. Grandpa has been watching carefully the whole time, just not as skilled. Grandpa accepts his loss wholeheartedly. Not bad, Grandpa didn’t misjudge you, truly surpassing your mentor."
Lin Junyang couldn’t help but twitch the corners of his mouth.
When has anyone seen Grandpa regret a move? When playing with him, it’s pretty much routine, isn’t it? Looking at the two of them with their mediocre chess skills, claiming to surpass the mentor is quite a stretch.
The gentle autumn sunshine spilled tenderly onto the ground, as Xiao Xiao sat in her chair, idly watching the distant figure.
Honestly, when Xiao Xiao first met Lin Junyang, she just thought he was incredibly handsome, with a dignified, vibrant look and an occasional hint of unruliness and devilish charm. Such a man made it impossible for her eyes not to chase him.
Discussing with An Ran about winning him over was just boasting on her part, but unknowingly, the boasting seemed to have become her obsession.
With increasing interactions and understanding of this man, she only realized she was deeply entangled, unwilling to pull herself out.
