Chapter 204: Arriving In The Scenario
"Jor-than...!"
"Jor-than...!!"
A voice called, sounding extremely distant but rapidly getting closer.
Damn... so loud... Who the hell is Jor-than?
Uhtred’s thoughts were groggy and slow, which was surprising considering he had been completely fine when he left that room just now.
Slowly, his awareness returned, bringing a sudden realization. Memories of a life that wasn’t his began to filter through the back of his mind, explaining the heavy fog in his head.
Damn, so I’m already in the scenario...
He had expected the transition to be grander or something, but it had happened just like that.
The body of the young man he currently inhabited was called Jor-than. From the last memories Uhtred could remember, the guy had just died a brutal death literally minutes ago. Whoever was calling him on the outside was someone close to the previous owner of the body.
As Uhtred began to fully adapt to the body, he also began to feel more and more sensations from the outside.
He felt himself being shaken like a rag doll. Whoever was holding him was clearly in mourning, completely in disbelief that Jor-than was dead.
"You’re going to kill me for a second time if you keep shaking me like that!"
"Jor—Uhtred!! Uhtred you’re alive?!!!"
The person cried out in a mix of utter disbelief and joy. Uhtred realized he had spoken out loud, but that wasn’t what caught him off guard.
Did this person just call me by my actual name?
He focused his hearing clearly, as his eyes were still refusing to open for the meantime, and he realized that it was likely some sort of scenario mechanism at work here.
To the rest of the world, the person was saying "Jor-than," but to his own ears they were calling him by his own name, "Uhtred."
He wondered if the same mechanism would work if he found any of the others from the human ascender team and called them by their name.
Finally, his eyes responded. He cracked them open slowly, taking in the outside view.
"Guards!! Uhtred is awake!! He lives!! He lives!!!"
Uhtred winced as he opened his eyes. Now that all his senses had fully returned, he could hear the full volume of the person shouting, and it was hurting his ears.
He looked around. He seemed to be on some sort of battlefield just like he remembered from the previous body owner’s memory before he died.
Thankfully, the battle was drawing to a conclusion. The enemy they were fighting against had been defeated, and only the stragglers were being taken care of far in the distance.
Thousands of bodies littered the wide, open plain.
The slick feeling of blood that had pooled between his body and the hard ground, and the metallic, pungent smell of it from the many bodies across the battlefield filled his senses.
Dominating his view was the face of the person who had been screaming and shaking him like they wanted to kill him a second time.
It was a woman.
Raven black hair... an extremely pale skin, delicate like a porcelain... a petite yet exquisite face... and deep grey eyes that stared down at him searchingly.
Heaven’s chosen, Nayu An?!
Her name appeared in his mind without him having to think much about it. Literally everyone knew who she was: the undisputed prodigy of the An Clan.
An extremely talented girl from the core line of the clan. She was someone that was beyond the original body owner by leaps and bounds in terms of cultivation. The one who was to carry on the clan legacy and name.
But what was most surprising was the fact that she was here cradling him... or rather, the previous body owner, after his death.
From the memories Uhtred browsed through, there was nothing that tied her to the previous body owner at all.
The only encounters they had were random moments where they had crossed paths — a grand total of four times over the course of the original owner’s entire twenty years of existence — and even then, most of it was from a distance.
Just as Uhtred was trying to understand why she had searched for him specifically among the thousands of An Clan warriors that had perished on this battlefield, he suddenly felt his vision begin to dim.
Ah shit, I totally forgot this guy literally bled to death...
The gaping sword wound that had killed Jor-than was still there. Uhtred taking over the body and coming back alive simply meant he had inherited those injuries too. It was a miracle he was even able to function again.
Like a lamp that had been snuffed out, his consciousness faded rapidly, but this time he knew he was in safe hands, or at least he knew he wasn’t going to die.
Before he passed out, he could already see the guards that the girl had been calling out to rush towards him. Among them was a healer.
.
.
.
The next time Uhtred opened his eyes, the first thing that greeted him was not the surroundings, but rather, the string of texts from his chat.
> Kryton Overlord_01: Finally! He awakens! I thought I’d have to sit here and watch him sleep for one more blasted hour!!
> Veloraian Lord Of The Green Hats_69: @Kryton Overlord_01 I told you this guy isn’t the real deal! Sleeping for seven hours from just a mere piercing wound? Pathetic!
> Serial_Troll_Nyx: @Veloraian Lord Of The Green Hats_69 The Host was just hyping this guy up for nothing! Such a waste of my two hundred multiversal tokens! He’s just as generic as every other ascender!!
> TheStarTravelingDaoist: @Serial_Troll_Nyx Give the guy a break. He literally just crossed into a scenario world. Are you expecting him to be slaying titans already or something?
> Thunderous_Lord_ReJolt: @Serial_Troll_Nyx Your username says it all. What do you mean generic? You’ve barely seen him do anything yet!
> Myriad Sword Ancestor of the Seventy-seventh Heaven: @TheStarTravelingDaoist @Thunderous_Lord_ReJolt Do not mind that troll, new friends. This sword ancestor has been here since the beginning of Uhtred’s journey. And as much as I hate to say it... the Host was not overhyping him in the slightest! He is truly a talent like I’ve never seen before!
> Serial_Troll_Nyx: @Myriad Sword Ancestor of the Seventy-seventh Heaven Ha! And what exactly have you seen?! I’ve never heard of your name anywhere in the multiverse, so you must be a very small fry! Literally anyone looks like a "never before seen talent" to a nobody like you! The fact that you’re flexing about watching some weak Nascent realm human from day one just proves my point!!
> Serial_Troll_Nyx: @TheStarTravelingDaoist @Thunderous_Lord_ReJolt I don’t need to see more to decide! This guy doesn’t have any potential to be a Sovereign! I bet that "unified elemental spell" of his was just a fluke or some cheap knock off version!!
> Agile_Battlestar Grandmaster: @Serial_Troll_Nyx So are you saying the Host of the Tower is blind? He hypes up a lot of ascenders, yes. But his words are always based on truth!
> Godly_Fiend_Anjos: At the end of the day this argument is pointless. No one knows how long it would take a Sovereign to have recovered at the boy’s level and in the same shoes. They are figures of myth that no one has ever seen...
