Chapter 1115 - 513: Minor Court
After taking a sip of the steaming Black Snow Bean coffee, Mo gently took off his gloves and then leaned back in his chair, resting his cheek in his hand and slowly closing his eyes...
"Mo?"
The Dark Elf girl leaning at the edge of the table furrowed her brows and softly called out to him, but received no response. Sensing the surging darkness around her and the intangible yet palpable malevolence, she was certain that the other hadn’t left the game, but his "consciousness" seemed to no longer be present.
"How many secrets do you have..."
She sighed softly, casually flicking a dim flame onto the tray to maintain the coffee’s temperature, then she drew the "Black Curse Thin Sword Modified" from her pack. As she gently wiped the blade, she murmured, "What are you thinking about... And what am I thinking about..."
Banse massacre, God of Law fallen, tragic deaths of the prince and his son, the Empire in turmoil—this person effortlessly escalated the chaos, yet observed like a bystander indifferent to the crisis, calmly weaving disasters and spreading fear. Despite knowing most of the details and purposes, even she, who had often participated, couldn’t see through his true desires and expectations.
Not only that, she was gradually becoming unable to guess even her own thoughts...
Turning her head, the figure feigning sleep was terrifying, akin to a massive abyss that constantly swirled, lifeless, devouring everything, pale and void.
After a long silence, the girl averted her gaze, sheathed her thin sword, and walked into the hazy darkness that lingered beside the Sin Knight, laughing mockingly at herself...
"How terrible must this world be to not have room even for a little one like you?"
...
Ten minutes earlier
City of Light, outer city area, minor court
The minor court is an institution under the Holy Church Union... under the Major Heretic Court... under the Heretic Court.
Simply put, it’s the lowest level cell, specifically for detaining those posing minimal or potential threats to civilians—an officially sanctioned, church-regulated prison. Although the criminals and monsters inside weren’t particularly strong, it was still a bona fide governmental facility, staffed entirely by legitimate clergy.
The strength of these people ranged from primary to middle rank. Although they weren’t particularly powerful, they were sufficient to suppress the prisoners inside—after all, those truly dangerous, vicious, and cunning had mostly been contained by the Major Heretic Court and the Heretic Court. Even during troubled times, each major sect had its detention sites with far superior security and power than the minor court, so those sent here were typically just riffraff, incapable of causing any real trouble.
As for the court of judgement, that place had been empty for who knows how many years, essentially just for show—not because it was overly corrupt, but because there hadn’t been anyone qualified to be detained there in nearly a century.
Within the clean and incorruptible Holy Church Union, the only spots for corruption were places like the minor court, which only detained low-level prisoners.
"By the way, Moore the Monk, that woman who was detained on the third floor earlier, what’s her story?"
On the first underground level of the minor court, a curious Lower Order Holy Knight of the Fertile Sect asked the chubby Dwarf next to him, "She seems pretty badly injured..."
"Heh, young man, how did you end up getting assigned here?"
The Dwarf named Moore chuckled, swallowed a mouthful of three-barrel, two silver coin cheap alcohol, wiped his mouth, and asked, "Do you like working here?"
"I don’t really know how I got sent here."
The young knight shook his head blankly, listlessly saying, "Honestly, I don’t like it here at all. It’s gloomy, the food’s bad, there are no holidays, and the pay is low. I’d much rather be in the reserve, at least after the sun sets I could go out for a drink with the guys."
Moore patiently listened to his complaints and then asked cheerfully, "Let me guess, you didn’t perform very well in the reserve, did you?"
"Uh, maybe... I was always getting yelled at by the sergeant for oversleeping, and I didn’t score well on the promotion tests."
The sheepish half-orc knight with small horns and a portly figure scratched the back of his head and said sheepishly, "But my appetite was the biggest among my peers!"
"I knew it." Moore laughed loudly, grinning, "Lazy, mediocre performance, and not much of a schemer, no wonder you were sent to this godforsaken place."
The other knight blinked blankly, not immediately catching on.
Moore, not waiting for him to catch up, continued fiddling with a softly-glowing golden brooch in his hand and asked cheerfully, "So, do you want to get out of here soon?"
"Yes! I dream of it!"
The naïve young man nodded vigorously, speaking loudly, "As long as I can leave this place, even if I have to report to the night patrol team in the outer city area, they at least get five days off a month."
