Chapter 1108 - 509: Minority Assembly (I)_2
The unnamed Priest gently raised his hand, and the stretcher floating in mid-air stood upright. At the same time, several light flames appeared out of thin air, gently yet firmly binding the body of the other party, ensuring that she wouldn’t fall while locking gazes with him.
Of course, for someone who was seriously injured, this was definitely not a comfortable sensation.
"Ugh..."
The woman restrained on the stretcher uttered a pain-filled groan, then struggled to lift her head and look toward the ’Priest,’ whose entire body was enveloped in a cloak and hood, she asked weakly, "Why should I believe you?"
The latter took out from his sleeve a badge adorned with nine dark gold gemstones, and with the pure Divine Power of the Sun God, ’lit’ it up, at once, nine images of blazing suns appeared above the table between the two of them.
"Now do you believe?"
"Greetings to you, Priest... your Excellency, may my Lord bless you."
The woman painfully lowered her head.
"And may my Lord bless you."
The Priest drew a Sun God’s Badge in front of his chest and with his deeply distorted voice, said solemnly, "So, Dora Hika Knight, I would like to ask you about some matters."
Dora Hika was a very common name, and the owner of this name was a very common Knight.
She was born in a devout family in the western part of the Holy Land, and since childhood, she believed in the Sun God; unlike her parents, Dora was not an extremely fervent Believer. Rather than calling on the name of God when facing difficulties, she preferred to solve problems through her own efforts. With her inherent Martial Arts Talent, the young girl became an apprentice Holy Knight of the Sun Sect three days before her nineteenth birthday and used the generous subsidy provided by the Church to move with her parents to the City of Light.
Two years later, she had become a Lower Order Holy Knight and was assigned to the Preparatory Knights.
If her life had followed its normal course, with Dora’s not-particularly-outstanding Talents, she would probably have advanced to Middle Rank before thirty and spent ten to fifteen years to become an Advanced Stage Holy Knight. If she was lucky, during this time, she would find a man stronger than herself in all aspects to start a family with and then live a happy life, training newcomers, having children, raising them, working, disciplining the children, working, disciplining the children again, and then retiring.
In fact, after settling her parents, this was indeed Dora’s life plan, and everything was proceeding smoothly, except for not having met a good man.
However, her life eventually derailed...
A plague, which had not been taken very seriously, broke out in Misha County. Perhaps it was because the Church of the Dawn intended to rack up more merit for their freshly anointed Saintess, Her Highness Xia Lian, who had become rather famous in the City of Light, actually went personally to the south to Misha, and she, along with nearly a hundred peers from the Preparatory Knight Order, was assigned to the entourage, forming a temporary Knight Order of five hundred strong with Lower Order Holy Knights from several other Sects, and together headed for Misha County.
Then, the situation spiraled out of control...
The weird plague, which could not be effectively expelled by Divine Arts or Magic, had not been contained when creatures known as Mutants rapidly turned the entire Misha County into a hell on earth.
The five hundred Holy Knights including herself, along with the grievously injured Saintess Xia Lian, unexpectedly became the only fighting force.
Despite not showing it, Dora was almost in despair at the time. In her view, the only way to survive was to hold the northern blockade, cover the evacuation of all uninfected civilians, then give up on the entire Misha County and wait for the main army to mount a campaign.
That was what she thought when she risked her life exploring the situation in the southern county with Xia Lian.
And then, that ordinary Priest known as Hei Fan entered everyone’s view. Because he was from the Church of the Dawn, and seemed to have some ambiguous relationship with the newly anointed Saintess, although nobody said it out loud, everyone, including Dora, had no good feelings toward this man suddenly labeled as the Commander.
But everything changed after that Black Vatican Priest took over command...
Before anyone knew it, the fighting force of just five hundred knights expanded several times under his leadership. After stabilizing the situation in the North Territory, they, now under the name of the Misha County Joint Forces, penetrated central territory in one fell swoop and continually eradicated Mutants to the south with the ancient Gudami Plain as their new frontline. During this process, everyone’s perception of him shifted from disdain to surprise, from surprise to shock, and finally to awe.
And naturally, Dora Hika was deeply shaken by this Commander who continued to perform miracles. She was not only filled with admiration for him, but she even deliberately held back during battles, just to be assigned to the Commander’s guard—a position only given to those bypassed by the main forces.
She wanted to protect this man who seemed frail but gave everyone an ultimate sense of peace of mind.
However, even Dora herself knew that this affection was unrealistic, not just because they were not from the same Sect, but more importantly, because that person’s partner, so dearly loved by everyone from the depths of their hearts, was Her Highness the Saintess of the Morning Forgotten Language from the Church of the Dawn.
Those two were simply a match made by heaven, even their approachable demeanors were exactly alike.
But if possible...
I at least wanted to become his Guardian Knight.
This thought surfaced in Dora’s mind more than once, but it was unrealistic. Not to mention that almost all the opposite-sex Guardian Knights in history had some sort of romantic relationship with the person they protected, just from the perspective of strength and potential, I definitely didn’t measure up to that genius Commander destined for fame.
So Dora always kept this wish in her heart.
Until the Soul Requiem project began, and after fighting fiercely, she was pulled from her horse by dozens of Mutants. Although she barely survived, she could no longer wield her Longsword again, and that was when Dora confided her feelings to that person and received a promise that anyone with eyes could see was just to comfort her.
But that was enough...
After giving herself a hope that would never be realized, Dora tenaciously survived and was sent back to the City of Light on the first ship along with dozens of other severely injured people. After intermittently finishing a report, she had been recovering quietly in a small church in the outer district of the city until now.
"You... please speak."
Dora humbly bowed her head in front of the Church leader.
"That Low-level Pastor from the Church of the Dawn named Hei Fan, who also was your overall Commander during the time in Misha County, do you remember him?"
The Church leader tapped the table lightly, his eyes fixated beneath the hood on the ’former Holy Knight’ before him who had become virtually incapacitated.
"Lord Black Fan?"
Dora was startled for a moment, then, enduring the pain of her injuries all over her body, she nodded vigorously and said, "Yes, I remember... he... cough cough, he was very excellent, certain to become the most dazzling general star of the alliance in the future... cough cough... the most outstanding Commander I have ever seen."
"Hehe, I see."
The Church leader chuckled lightly and nodded, "I’ve read your report. It’s said that you once served as a bodyguard for that Black Vatican Priest and also participated in most of the battles, so... if Dora Knight you don’t mind, could you tell me more about Black Fan?"
"This..."
Dora hesitated slightly, feeling that everything, both the question and the surrounding environment, was just too eerie.
"Of course, if possible, please keep our conversation confidential afterward."
The Church leader seemed to ignore the hesitation in her eyes and continued: "After all, including myself, there are only the people present here who think highly of the potential of Black Fan Priest and hope to persuade him to join our side~"
"Yes!"
Dora’s eyes suddenly brightened, and she said loudly, "I will definitely keep it a secret."
...
Twenty minutes later
"I didn’t expect her to actually hold on until she finished speaking."
The muscular participant looked at Dora who had fallen into a coma and shrugged his shoulders.
The Church leader sitting at the head of the table, after a moment of silence, gently waved his hand, letting the stretcher and the person on it fall to the ground...
"Alright, we already know what we need to know, dispose of her."
