Chapter 1037 - 476: Evil God_2
"How could this be possible..."
Double Leaf muttered softly and then suddenly looked up at the two unusually calm gentlemen in front of her, "Could it be that you intentionally let him escape?"
Shu shook his head and spread his hands, "Not at all, I can assure you that the Royal Family had no loopholes in the defense of Baffie Marshall, and all security measures were arranged according to the highest standards."
"But you guessed right about one thing."
Motan chuckled and waved his finger leisurely, "To be precise... I had known that the guy would escape, and His Highness the Prince simply chose to trust me."
Double Leaf wasn’t stunned for long. After a brief shock, she had already regained her composure at a devilish speed and then turned to Motan, "So the reason you previously promised me that you could definitely destroy the Marshall Family, not just kill the mastermind, was based on the fact that Baffie Marshall would inevitably escape?"
"You could say that, but there’s too much involved here, and explaining it one by one is a bit complicated."
Motan nodded nonchalantly and smiled, "All in all, if I’m not wrong, Baffie Marshall isn’t someone willing to die for his family, and even if he were, certain issues within the Marshall Family itself would prevent things from going that way, so his only way out was a desperate break, which is exactly what His Highness and I, and in some ways you, were hoping for."
Double Leaf paused for a moment and then asked Shu, "Your Highness, when was Baffie Marshall discovered to have escaped? And how did he leave that gray prison?"
Motan, with his legs crossed, also laughed, "That’s what I want to know too."
If the same question were asked of Double Leaf and Tan Mo in their current state, those two could probably ramble off-topic until the next morning, but Shu’s character was obviously much better than the two, so he simply stated, "The Zijing Guard who guarded the gray prison has a separate shift-changing system, and in most cases, every five shifts include one of my men. After Baffie Marshall was sent in, I changed this frequency to every other shift including one of my men. Just one hour ago, one of the Zijing Guards loyal to me entered the gray prison and discovered that our former duke had already disappeared from his cell, and the other guards showed no signs of anomaly, acting as if the man was still rightfully inside—indeed, that’s what they believed."
Motan gave Shu a thumbs up, smiling playfully, "His Highness the Prince truly has extraordinary reach, to be able to place your men among the Zijing Guards loyal only to the current emperor. Give it to me straight, when did your brother start being blind?"
"My elder brother is not blind,"
Shu shook his head and calmly said, "He’s just not excellent enough."
"And when did your father become blind?"
"The Emperor is not blind either."
Shu didn’t take offense at Motan’s irreverent words, but answered just as calmly, "He is also not excellent enough."
Motan nodded slightly, and with a hollow look, he said to the unfathomable Second Prince in front of him, "So the problem lies in the genetic inheritance of the Violet Royal Family, and it turned out that you are the sensible one?"
The latter shrugged and spread his hands, "No, they are all very talented and have very long-term vision—it’s just that they are not as excellent compared to me."
"Enough of that for now,"
Double Leaf interrupted them somewhat impatiently; having been pointed out by Shu as an ’Otherworlder,’ she hadn’t been much disguising her true temperament, and after a simple thought, she squinted her eyes at Shu, "You said no one noticed Baffie Marshall leaving, were any of those whom you had placed inside?"
"Yes, and more than one."
Shu readily stopped playing along with Motan’s digressions and seriously said, "But none of them noticed Baffie leaving either. Everyone there earnestly believed that the target was still in his cell, despite there being no one inside."
The girl furrowed her eyebrows and murmured in a low voice, "Could it be a broad-spectrum mental interference spell? No, that guy was supposed to be completely disabled; theoretically, he should be no different from an ordinary middle-aged man now, except for being physically healthier..."
"You’re right,"
Shu nodded very cooperatively, then continued, "As for the second question, how Baffie Marshal left the gray prison, no conclusion has been reached yet. But in my opinion, after ruling out all the unrealistic possibilities, the answer can only be ’the guard let him leave through the normal process.’"
Double Leaf scratched her hair in annoyance. She had exhausted all the spell knowledge she knew, yet she couldn’t figure it out. So, she simply stopped thinking about it and turned directly to Motan, who was casually beside her, and asked impatiently, "Tell us, how did he do it?"
Shu also turned to look at Motan and said with a light laugh, "Since everything is unfolding as per your prediction, isn’t it time for you to reveal the mystery to us?"
Clearly, neither Double Leaf nor Shu doubted that Motan knew the real situation. After all, the one who adamantly guaranteed that Baffie Marshal would successfully escape from prison and had been giving various advice and promises based on this scenario was none other than him.
"Sure,"
Motan nodded nonchalantly and said indifferently, "It’s just a guess, but Baffie Marshal probably borrowed the power of some god... well, or should I say, an Evil God."
"Evil God?"
Both Double Leaf and Shu were momentarily stunned by the term. It wasn’t strange to either of them and was familiar to anyone with common sense on the Innocent Continent.
An Evil God is an entity with great strength that is not a True God. Their powers and forms vary greatly, some being just a concept, but without exception, they are experts in deceiving the mind. These self-proclaimed gods are eager to expand their followers and continuously erode their bodies and minds of their believers, using them to conduct rituals, enhance their power through them, and guide them towards destruction, making them universally condemned on the continent.
Some scholars claim that Evil Gods are resentful spirits from beyond, some experts say they are natural phenomena, some hosts say all Evil Gods are big-eyed creatures with tentacles, but there’s never been a clear consensus.
The terrifying nature of these entities is known to never die out; every few hundred or thousand years, one or two emerge to plague humanity.
If explained from a player’s perspective, then every Evil God is considered ’chaotic’ and ’evil,’ bringing nothing but destruction.
Moreover, Evil Gods are mortal enemies of all kinds of True God sects, seen even by gods from neither the orderly nor the Good Side, like the Goddess of Darkness or Blood God, as a priority to eliminate, they are akin to public enemies of the world.
In history, there was an organization known as the God-extinguishing Cult, born in an era when Evil Gods were rampant. Its members, for various reasons, held a deep hatred for Evil Gods. They practically did nothing else but strategize on how to hunt Evil Gods and their followers, even creating many special massive weapons against them. Over two hundred years, they nearly wiped out every notable Evil God on the continent, regarded by the public as a super gloriously righteous philanthropic organization.
Until one day, with no Evil Gods left to fight, they shifted their focus to the true deities, and then...
The God-extinguishing Cult became history.
However, thanks largely to those people’s efforts and sacrifices, fewer particularly powerful Evil Gods have emerged on the Innocent Continent since then, with most being insignificant enough that a couple of city officials from the Holy Church Union could easily wipe them out.
"But as far as I know..."
Motan smiled sinisterly, speaking softly, "That Evil God named ’Whisper’ is definitely not a weakling; it’s boldly courageous..."
