Four Split Personalities

Chapter 936 - 431: The First Victim

12,682, the number of mutants attracted to the Hodir’s Trail in the second phase of the Requiem Plan by Yu Chen, almost encompassed half of the undead creatures in the southern territory of Misha County.

If these monsters were to be lined up one meter apart in order, then this group of mutants could barely cover a square of 8,000 square meters. However, when they charged in a frenzy, the vast majority would quickly lose grasp of the concept of ’quantity’...

For the warriors in the joint forces, most of whom had never truly experienced ’war’ and at most had once wiped out a few hundred group-living demon beasts, the difference between 10,000 and 100,000 was irrelevant as they faced the torrent filled with the stench of death.

Because they couldn’t see the end of the mutant group, and often, after a brief moment of daze, they would start wondering—can we really annihilate all these monsters?

Not only the NPCs, even the players who had seen countless large battles on various TVs were the same, they merely comforted themselves with the thought, "at least you don’t really die."

"It’s everywhere... it’s really everywhere..."

A Ranger player crouching against the mountain wall swallowed with difficulty, his legs shaking unconsciously, his watermelon face completely stiff and bloodless: "How the hell are we supposed to fight this? Even if those monsters were lying flat to be killed, we’d probably end up killing until our arms were sore."

This player, belonging to the Eagle Eye squadron, was by no means weak. In fact, he once set a record of kiting nearly a hundred mutants alone with a bow for a full fifteen minutes. Though his race was the seemingly fragile Flower Elf, he was absolutely a powerhouse in every sense of the word.

But even so, Armstrong, who just turned 26 last month, prided himself on his strong mental fortitude, was a high-level 23 Ranger with plenty of combat experience, still felt some weakness in the legs after witnessing the scene before him. This was not an isolated incident; in fact, all scouts lurking around the mouth of Hodir’s Trail felt a bit queasy at that moment, and the more timid ones had already unconsciously opened their legs, ready to run back.

It was at this time...

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

Slightly chaotic drum beats rose from all directions and, after a brief disarray, began to synchronize. Seconds later, the deep and crude war drum sounds seemed to pause for a split second after hitting the beat before bursting forth like a thunderstorm. The dense, almost suffocating wild rhythm felt like electric currents numbing everyone’s scalp, and then they felt a warm current spreading from their chests, becoming scorching in the blink of an eye, as if a bundle of fire tightly wrapped around their hearts. With each rise and fall of the drum beat, it seared their warm blood—

until it boiled!

[Bloodlust War Drum]

War Series Active Skill

Requirements: Shaman Priest Level 13, a sense of rhythm

Cost/Limit: 8% maximum Health Points, 300 Physical Strength Points, 200 Magic Points, owning a set of drums with quality not less than [Common], additional 100 Physical Strength Points and 5% maximum Health Points consumption every 15 seconds while drumming.

Effect: Grants courage to friendly units within a certain range, increasing their damage by 5%, movement speed by 5%, reducing Physical Strength consumption by 5%, increasing Health Point limit by 5%, reducing defensive power by 5%. This effect cannot stack with any other similar effects. Cooldown time: None

[Note: In the name of the ancestors, in this BGM, the enemy may defeat you, kill you, trample you, humiliate you, walk over you, but I swear, they will never conquer you!]

This looked like an intimidating skill, but upon closer inspection, it seemed somewhat less impressive. Although it did not appear to have high consumption and had no cooldown time, with a fairly good effective range, in most cases, [Bloodlust War Drum] was not a satisfactory skill, for the reason already written in the skill effect: it could not stack with any effect similar to it.

That is to say, if a person within the range of [Bloodlust War Drum] made a basic attack, they would indeed enjoy a 5% damage increase, but if they used any skill, item, or talent that could increase their damage by more than 5%, then their attack boost would be reset to zero. Similarly, the 5% increases in movement speed, defensive power, Health Point limit were the same, so its practical use was not particularly significant.

But at that moment, the war drums echoing across Hodir’s Trail had a tremendous effect as they endowed all warriors shrouded in the sound of drums with courage.

Yes, it was courage, an abstract concept, but exceptionally effective when facing the overwhelming swarm of mutants.

Under Motan’s early arrangements, a total of 41 players and NPCs with the skill [Bloodlust War Drum] were evenly distributed throughout the corners of Hodir’s Trail, with the sound of the drums resonated throughout the mountain region, either through [Magic Scroll- Amplification Spell] or mages inadequate for the front lines but able to use the Amplification Art with ease, playing fervently for all the warriors of the allied forces.

Although it wouldn’t be considered a pleasing BGM from a musical theory perspective, it was at least an energizing one!
