"Ugh..."
Batty Arthur struggled to open his eyes, letting out a dry groan. After several attempts, he finally managed to focus, seeing the figure that had been wandering back and forth before him.
It was Lainan Lena, with smooth golden hair, bunny ears atop her head, quite different in species from him though both were from the Half-beast People. Despite also being a seventh-year student at Holy Spear Knight Academy, she had always called him ’senior’ since he started working and studying to assist newcomers from his second day at school, and couldn’t seem to change this habit.
"Ah! Senior, you’re finally awake!"
The tall girl with a cautious touch placed a warm towel on Batty’s forehead. Seeing Batty open his eyes, she let out a joyful cry and then squatted beside the bench where Batty lay, holding his right hand with concern, "Senior, are you feeling better? Is there any discomfort, any headache?"
"Hmm."
Batty shook his head vigorously, instinctively muttering, "No, just a bit dizzy, where am I..."
He suddenly froze.
Only now did Batty realize that Lainan squatting before him wasn’t wearing the uniform that always seemed a size too small, but was draped in a seemingly tattered Heavy Armor Knight, full of dents and cracks, with the arm and shoulder guards removed.
Moreover, her exposed left arm was wrapped in bandages, with white linen dotted with bright red.
"Sorry."
Just then, an unfamiliar voice suddenly sounded behind Batty. He stiffly turned his head to see an elf woman with a red ponytail, clad in cracked black heavy armor, looking apologetically at him and saying awkwardly, "I might have gone too hard."
[What a beautiful elf.]
Batty blinked, genuinely sighing in his heart.
"What do you mean went too hard~"
Another girl came into Batty’s view, wearing the same black heavy armor, short black hair styled neat, her delicate face was dirty with dust and sweat yet remained charming, behind her was a half-broken heavy shield as she made a playful face at him, "Who knew you couldn’t take hits, all the core of the squad. Our side’s Silent Brother is super strong, but you couldn’t even take a single strike from Liya sis, flattening you down, can’t blame us entirely!"
[What a beautiful girl.]
Batty’s thoughts scattered again, with another heartfelt yet not-so-appropriate sigh.
"Scarlett!"
Liya Delin immediately tugged impatient Scarlett Diesel, scolding softly, "Don’t say such ungentlemanly stuff!"
"In any case, it seems there’s not much serious problem."
A girl with waist-length white hair glanced at Batty, arms folded, spoke slowly, "I executed your plan well, it’s not my fault to misjudge that fellow’s strength, if Hopkins wants to renege, you’ll testify for me."
[Miss Snow Bathing Sword is as beautiful as ever, is this paradise...]
Batty’s gaze went blank for a moment.
"Senior..."
Lainan didn’t let go of Batty’s hand, just lowered her head with slightly red eyes, saying softly to this senior who was likely knocked into concussion, "I’m sorry, we lost."
"Ah, it’s okay, a loss is a loss, win it back next time."
Batty instinctively comforted this junior, even after enduring Holy Spear Knight Academy’s complete seven years of ’torment’, still gentle and introverted with no trace of gloom. A while later he snapped back, exclaiming, "Wait a minute! You said we lost!?"
"Wow, Liya sis, you really seemed to have broken this guy’s head!"
Scarlett rolled her eyes, hitting her palm strongly, then being flicked heavily on the forehead by Liya Delin she squatted, hugging her head adorably with teary eyes.
Lainan looked helplessly beside her at the two female knights who moments ago had terrified her and in a flash slammed through the main formation with their spearheads, now becoming unexpectedly amicable and a bit comedic, nodding gently at Batty, "Yes, we lost."
"Really... lost, huh..."
Having finally shaken off the aftereffects of Liya Delin’s strike, recalling where he was and what he was doing previously, Batty sighed wistfully and, realizing he wasn’t as disappointed as imagined, shook his head with a bitter smile, "A loss is a loss."
Lainan, ready to recount comforting words, widened her eyes in surprise, "Senior, why are you..."
"Why am I not very disappointed?"
Batty laboriously propped himself up, holding his dizzy head, chuckling drily, "Because truly there’s nothing much to be disappointed about. Really, Lainan, though I feel some guilt towards everyone, if you ask whether there’s any regret left from this competition, well... at least for me, none, I’ve tried my best, but..."
He again cast his eyes towards the two knight women from the Diesel Family, shaking his head helplessly.
