Chapter 1024 - 470: The Undercurrent Before Dawn
Game Time AM05:13
Shaven Empire, the capital Telon, Sin Duke’s Manor
Mo slowly opened his eyes, left the soft bed, and silently walked to the window.
A few seconds later, a wisp of cloud obscured the silver moonlight.
"Heh, I thought you wouldn’t log in today..."
The cool voice rose from a corner of the room. A dark elf wearing a white gown lazily stood up, set aside her needlework, and asked with a light chuckle, "Busy with something outside the game?"
Perhaps because she was not wearing her full set of equipment, the girl’s innate icy temperament seemed to have diminished quite a bit. Although her expression remained cold, her slender figure added a touch of vulnerability to her, an illusion perhaps, but still precious.
Mo, of course, wouldn’t engage in conversation about what he had been busy with; he just glanced back at Ji Xiaodao with minimal movement and slightly frowned upon noticing she was wearing only a conservative nightgown, "Don’t be careless."
"Can I take that as a sign of your concern for me?"
The girl snickered mockingly, casually grabbed a thin blanket to drape over her shoulders, and walked behind that annoying man. Her crimson eyes looked beyond his shoulder at the night sky, "Even if I were extremely vigilant, I couldn’t possibly wear that armor in my own bedroom, especially when every action is being monitored, and moreover..."
A pitch-black rapier appeared silently in the girl’s hand and pressed against Mo’s neck within half a second, undulating with layers of shadows.
"In this environment, my strength is not that much reduced."
She hummed lightly, casually put away the rapier, hiding it in the omnipresent shadows, and didn’t even shift her gaze from the starless night sky, "Plus, Yin Ji is around."
Mo, seemingly unruffled by the incident, looked at the girl impassively and said without emotion, "That will only make you more useless."
Ji Xiaodao smiled nonchalantly, "Since you reminded me not to be careless just now, that implies I’m fairly useful, doesn’t it?"
"I won’t deny it."
The emotionless black eyes behind the mask narrowed slightly, yet they didn’t reflect the lovely silhouette so close at hand, "You indeed spared me a lot of trouble, although I never asked you for anything."
Ji Xiaodao paused for a moment, then raised her eyebrows inquiringly, "Are you thanking me?"
"No, I just think you’re doing something meaningless for yourself."
Mo shook his head and moved on from the topic, asking indifferently, "Found any clues?"
The nominal mistress of the mansion sighed imperceptibly and shook her head, "Not so fast. Even with minimal cooperation from Galos and the others, my actions are very much restricted. I could try to increase efficiency, but that would be too likely to raise alarm. We players do have certain advantages in some respects, but they are just advantages—caution is still needed."
"No need for such lengthy justifications."
Mo turned to sit in a chair by the bed, speaking softly, "It’s as expected; you still have plenty of time."
Ji Xiaodao leaned against the window, tightening the blanket on her shoulders, and winked slyly, "But I did make a bit of progress and have made some arrangements based on that progress. It shouldn’t be long before we see some results."
Mo simply nodded, not probing further into the matter he had left in her hands.
"Oh, Jiawen has something to report, if you’re free you can contact her."
The dark elf girl looked at him with a playful smirk, winking teasingly, "Although she said it’s fine to tell me directly, I think she’d prefer to speak with you, so I told her to wait for you to log in."
Mo ignored the mockery in Ji Xiaodao’s words, casually opened his friends list, and found another name besides ’Silent Prayer/Chaotic Evil’—’Jiawen/Chaotic Evil’
Five minutes later
"How’s the situation with Violet?"
Ji Xiaodao, noticing that he had finished communicating with someone afar, asked absentmindedly, "Did she succeed in exonerating that slave trader?"
"Jiawen failed."
Mo shook his head slightly, tapping the armrest of the chair, "But she has proven her capabilities."
"What now? Is she preparing to return?"
"She’s not content, so she wants to try again. However, I’ve set a time limit for her. She’ll return before the war between Telon and Thornhold begins."
Ji Xiaodao glanced at him, "What, planning to send her over there?"
"That’s assuming the other person and William aren’t smart enough, which is unlikely."
Mo smiled playfully, rhythmically tapping the armrest, "If they’re smart enough, they’ll send me to the frontline. When that time comes, Jiawen will stay in Telon. She will lead in the open, you in the shadows."
"It seems that’s your real plan."
Ji Xiaodao fell silent for a moment, then asked emotionlessly, "Although I think I’ve guessed the reason, I might as well ask why. It’s fine if you don’t want or have no interest in answering."
