Chapter 474: Caught in the Act
Wu Sheng had actually woken up at the same time as Su Li.
But before he could open his eyes, he suddenly heard Su Li mutter that she was a pig.
Wu Sheng almost burst out laughing.
However, because of her muttering, Wu Sheng, who had been about to open his eyes, was suddenly in no hurry to "wake up."
He wanted to see what else Su Li might do.
Wu Sheng listened as Su Li got out of the hospital bed. She seemed to want to call out to him but stopped herself. Though his eyes were closed, he could imagine her conflicted and reluctant expression.
His heart softened, but he also thought with a hint of indignation, ’I went through hell last night, so she can suffer a little "torment" too.’
With that in mind, Wu Sheng continued to feign sleep, wanting to see what Su Li would do next.
But after waiting for ages, Su Li didn’t do anything.
Wu Sheng knew Su Li was right beside him, but she said and did nothing. He could only feel her gaze on him.
Wu Sheng thought gleefully, ’I’m so handsome I don’t even need to wash my face. She must be completely captivated by my good looks, unable to tear her eyes away, right?’
Just as he was reveling in this thought, Wu Sheng felt Su Li drawing closer. He could even hear her breathing.
’Is she going to wake me up now?’ Wu Sheng wondered.
After waiting a moment, Wu Sheng felt Su Li was still getting closer, but she didn’t make a sound.
Feeling Su Li’s warm breath, Wu Sheng’s heart suddenly began to pound. A bold suspicion formed in his mind.
The second he had this suspicion, Wu Sheng could no longer pretend to be asleep. He snapped his eyes open.
Seeing Su Li’s slightly puckered lips, Wu Sheng’s suspicion was confirmed.
His heart was instantly filled with elation and disbelief.
Meanwhile, Su Li stared at Wu Sheng’s open eyes and froze solid.
Her lips still slightly puckered, she was utterly paralyzed.
Her mind went blank for a second. When she finally processed the situation, Su Li tried to jump up, but her legs had gone numb from squatting for too long, and she ended up plopping right down on her bottom.
Wu Sheng reacted at the same time. He reached out to catch her head but was too late.
After she fell, Su Li finally let out a small, delayed yelp, her face instantly turning as red as a tomato.
"I... I..."
Su Li wanted to explain, but she didn’t get the chance.
Wu Sheng lunged forward, capturing Su Li’s lips with his own.
Su Li’s mind went blank. By the time she realized what was happening, Wu Sheng’s large hand was cradling the back of her head, leaving her no room to retreat.
Gently yet assertively, Wu Sheng parted Su Li’s lips...
Just like that, in the hospital room, to the sound of a nurse’s rolling cart, in the most awkward of positions, the two shared their first truly meaningful kiss.
Su Li sat on the floor, supporting herself with her hands, while Wu Sheng leaned forward from the folding cot, holding her fast.
Su Li’s mind was a total blank; she didn’t know how to breathe, and then forgot to breathe entirely.
"Breathe," Wu Sheng’s husky voice commanded. Only then did Su Li realize her lips were free.
She dazedly obeyed, taking two deep breaths, and only then did she notice the painful tightness in her chest from holding her breath.
Wu Sheng let out a low chuckle. His large palm caressed Su Li’s fair, delicate neck as he gazed at her red, kiss-swollen lips. His Adam’s apple bobbed, and his eyes grew darker.
He didn’t even have time to pull Su Li up; he barely managed to get off the folding cot before he couldn’t stop himself from covering her lips with his again.
He had thought their previous, light-as-a-feather touches were sweet enough, but only today did he realize that wasn’t true at all...
Wu Sheng’s kiss was fiercer this time, blazing with passion. Su Li’s already-empty mind was once again wiped clean.
In two lifetimes, her only knowledge of kissing came from television; when had she ever experienced it for herself? She was completely dumbstruck.
Her heart pounded like a drum as she passively received Wu Sheng’s kiss, once again forgetting to breathe.
It felt as though only a few seconds had passed, yet also as if centuries had gone by.
"Are you being discharged today..." The question hung in the air as the door to the room was pushed open and a nurse walked in.
After pushing the door open and seeing the situation inside, the nurse’s words died in her throat.
She gasped, her face turning crimson, and abruptly shut the door before backing away.
Startled by the interruption, Wu Sheng finally released Su Li.
"Su Li, breathe. You forgot to breathe again."
Wu Sheng didn’t even look toward the door or the nurse who had interrupted his fun. He just murmured to Su Li.
A question flashed through his mind.
He had always seen how easily Su Li got shy and flustered, and he’d assumed it was just her personality. But after all this time together, he was discovering that Su Li was inexperienced to the extreme.
’Look at her, she doesn’t even know how to catch her breath. That dazed and stunned expression... no matter how you look at it, she doesn’t seem like someone who’s been married before.’
Wu Sheng’s eyes were deep and bottomless. The way he looked at Su Li, it was as if he was going to devour her whole in the next second.
Su Li gulped in lungfuls of air, feeling Wu Sheng’s searing gaze on her. Then she thought back to the moment the nurse had walked in.
Once her sluggish brain finally caught up, Su Li yelped, slapped a hand over Wu Sheng’s mouth as he leaned in for another kiss, and scrambled to her feet to run out the door.
"I’m going to school!"
Her legs were still a little numb, and she limped away, sucking in breaths as she ran. She almost fell on her way out.
"Su Li..." Wu Sheng watched helplessly as Su Li bolted like a rabbit.
Wu Sheng stared at the open door, then slowly sat back down on the folding cot, his gaze deep and inscrutable.
A moment later, Wu Sheng’s low, somewhat husky laughter echoed in the hospital room.
For the rest of the morning, a faint smile hung on Wu Sheng’s lips.
Wu Sheng was blissful, but Su Li’s blush lasted for almost the entire morning.
Whenever she thought about what Wu Sheng had done, Su Li would blush to the tips of her ears. And when she remembered being caught trying to steal a kiss, she was overcome with shame and frustration, wishing she could find a hole to crawl into and hide.
That morning, for the first time ever, Su Li couldn’t concentrate in class. She spent nearly the whole time completely distracted.
She had always looked forward to the end of class so she could go see Wu Sheng, but today, uncharacteristically, she wished it would run late. Nevertheless, the bell rang right on time.
No matter how embarrassed she felt, Su Li still ended up driving to pick up Wu Sheng. Seeing Wu Qihua in his hospital room made Su Li let out a huge sigh of relief.
Between Wu Qihua’s presence and the practical matter of his discharge, Su Li slowly managed to forget about the morning’s incident and return to normal.
But then Wu Sheng just had to bring up the stolen kiss again, saying something about "satisfying a craving," which made it sound like she was so... desperate or something.
How could Su Li not run away?
Her face bright red, Su Li fled. Wu Sheng picked up the item she had dropped and followed leisurely behind her.
His movements seemed casual, but his gaze was scorching hot.
Having gotten a taste of sweetness, Wu Sheng was starting to lose control, turning into a hungry wolf.
Whenever Su Li glanced at Wu Sheng, she would catch him looking at her, his gaze mostly fixed on her lips. It was the same even when he was eating; he looked as if he were using the sight of her as an appetizer.
Wu Sheng’s gaze left Su Li flustered and panicked. She felt as if he might pounce and take a bite out of her at any moment.
In the end, Su Li, in a state of panic, did everything she could to avoid being alone with Wu Sheng, clinging to Wu Qihua’s side and refusing to let go.
Wu Qihua didn’t notice anything was amiss. Only Wu Sheng was left feeling both exasperated and amused.
