Chapter 186
With that resolve burning in his chest, Allen began chanting.
"Golden wheel, silver collar."
"Beloved hatred, hollow fantasy—let destiny converge upon this place. Vanish, golden wheel, before the tracks grind you beneath them..."
The cat person maintained his blistering speed while continuing the incantation without interruption.
Concurrent chanting.
It was one of the most advanced techniques an adventurer could master.
Kiriya’s excitement rose the instant he saw it.
’Finally. He’s using his magic.’
For adventurers, magic was normally a last resort—a miraculous power capable of overturning an otherwise hopeless battle.
And this was Allen Fromel, a Level 6, committing everything he had to a single attack.
Its destructive power would be unimaginable.
Under normal circumstances, an opponent would do everything possible to interrupt the chant before the spell could be completed.
Kiriya did the exact opposite.
It was not because he intended to meet Allen’s strongest magic with nothing but his fists.
He wanted to test the new ability hidden within his Mangekyō Sharingan.
"Until death comes—until the song of wheels is heard beyond the horizon—race onward, carrying the will of the goddess..."
The lengthy chant finally reached its conclusion.
Allen’s presence transformed.
An unbearably sharp and violent force gathered around him, as though anything standing in his path would be torn apart.
This was Allen’s magic.
It transformed him into a living chariot, allowing his speed to increase continuously while converting that velocity directly into destructive force.
In theory, the spell had no upper limit.
As long as Allen’s body could withstand the acceleration, its power would continue rising.
Once he reached his maximum speed, even Ottar could be seriously wounded by a direct hit.
It was a terrifying ability.
Yet Allen almost never used it in front of others, apparently because of some strange sense of embarrassment.
As a result, very few people even knew the magic existed.
Had Kiriya not known the original story, he would never have suspected Allen possessed such a weapon.
Now the fastest man in Orario was about to unleash his ultimate attack as the perfect test for Kiriya’s new eye technique.
"Come on."
Kiriya’s face lit up with anticipation.
"Gralineze Fromel!"
Allen roared.
His body became a silver streak, charging toward Kiriya like a divine chariot with nothing in the world capable of stopping it.
His speed rivaled lightning.
Everything along his path—stone, earth, and bedrock—was pulverized into nothingness.
Farther away, layers of soil were torn from the ground and thrown upward like waves, displaying the terrifying force behind his charge.
The power had grown so violent that even Allen could no longer control it.
Once launched, he could only follow the trajectory he had chosen and drive forward.
’Come on, kid.’
’Use everything you have, or you’ll die.’
Then Allen saw something that nearly caused his magic to falter.
The green aura surrounding Kiriya disappeared.
He had closed the Eight Gates.
Kiriya simply stood in place and extended his right hand toward the living missile rushing at him.
’You absolute idiot!’
Allen cursed inwardly.
Kiriya was attempting to face his strongest magic in his normal state.
Had the boy finally lost his mind?
’Forgive me, Lady Freya.’
’This fool is about to be crushed.’
That was Allen’s final thought before he reached Kiriya.
Pop.
A faint sound, like a bubble bursting, reached his ears and Allen suddenly felt lighter.
The tremendous power surrounding him vanished without warning.
Only his forward momentum remained.
This was the ability of Kiriya’s left Mangekyō Sharingan.
It created a space roughly a foot around his body in which all supernatural energy was nullified.
For ten seconds, any spell, Skill, cursed technique, chakra-based ability, or other supernatural force that entered that space simply ceased to function.
Kiriya had named it—Nullification Domain.
Naturally, the ability had limits.
If the opposing power exceeded Kiriya’s by more than two full levels, or if it came from an authority that had already reached the realm of the gods, the Nullification Domain would fail.
Even with that restriction, it was absurdly powerful.
Against opponents near his own level, it was almost unbeatable.
Its only serious flaw was the cost.
With his ocular power completely full, Kiriya could activate it only once.
"What—"
Allen never finished the word.
His face slammed directly into Kiriya’s fist.
Crack!
The bones in his skull fractured beneath the impact.
The blow rattled his brain, sending his consciousness spinning as his body tumbled through the air.
"Hiss..."
Kiriya shook his hand and sucked in a sharp breath.
’What a brutally inconvenient ability.’
The Nullification Domain did not discriminate between enemy abilities and his own.
While it was active, Kiriya could not use ninjutsu, magic, Skills, or any other supernatural enhancement either.
He had to rely entirely on his natural body.
Without the Eight Gates, Kiriya’s base physical abilities were nowhere near those of a Level 6 like Allen.
The result was several broken bones in his hand.
Kiriya focused on his right eye.
The Mangekyō ability activated.
His injuries vanished before his eyes.
Even the power consumed by his left eye returned to its previous level.
At first glance, it appeared to be a healing ability.
In reality, it manipulated time.
The technique rewound the target to the state it had been in ten seconds earlier.
Kiriya called it—Time Rewind.
Its effect was extraordinary, but the restrictions were equally severe.
First, the energy consumption was enormous.
Even with his right eye at full power, Kiriya could use it only three times in succession.
Second, Time Rewind could not affect the right eye itself.
In other words, the technique could restore his body, chakra, stamina, and even the ocular power consumed by his left eye to their condition ten seconds earlier.
But the power expended by the right eye was permanent.
It could not rewind its own cost.
Kiriya had a fairly good idea why he had awakened these two particular abilities.
The Sharingan was often described as an eye that reflected the heart.
The abilities born from the Mangekyō were usually manifestations of the wielder’s deepest wishes, emotions, and obsessions.
Uchiha Shisui had longed to protect the village and preserve peace, so he awakened Kotoamatsukami, a supreme genjutsu capable of quietly reshaping the minds of others.
Uchiha Itachi had desired the power to change an impossible situation, resulting in Amaterasu, flames of overwhelming destruction.
He had also dreamed of controlling an ideal world, and so he gained Tsukuyomi, an illusionary realm where he ruled over time and reality.
Kiriya’s Nullification Domain and Time Rewind reflected his own desires just as clearly.
He wanted to grow stronger.
More than that, he wanted the confidence to stand against every miraculous ability the countless worlds might place before him.
That desire had first taken root when he encountered magic in other worlds.
After experiencing the unavoidable guaranteed-hit effect of Domain Expansion, it grew into something far stronger.
The result was the Nullification Domain—a power capable of erasing supernatural effects around him.
As for Time Rewind...
That explanation was even simpler.
Kiriya was afraid of dying.
If he died, he could no longer become stronger.
He would never see the countless beautiful sights still waiting beyond the horizon.
He would never return to the women he cared about.
More than anything, he wanted a second chance whenever one mistake threatened to end everything.
The Sharingan answered that desire.
And thus, he awakened the power to turn back time.
