Chloe Sinclair was a little surprised. "You didn’t go home for the New Year?"

"Yeah, the Winter Games are about to start, so none of us went back this year."

Chloe understood.

Even if they did go back, they’d probably be too distracted to enjoy the holiday.

After they finished chatting, an awkward silence fell between them, neither knowing what to say next.

Shawn Styles, in particular, looked like he had more to say but couldn’t get the words out.

Chloe asked, "What’s wrong?"

Shawn Styles said, "Are you dating that Mr. Shaw?"

"Yes."

Chloe added, "I’ve also met his parents."

When Shawn Styles heard this, for some reason, he felt a faint sense of disappointment.

But he said, "Congratulations."

Chloe gave a polite nod and changed the subject. "Want to go for a run?"

Of course, Shawn Styles was there to run. But the ground was slippery, so for safety, they didn’t go very fast. In an hour, they only managed twenty laps around the area.

Shawn Styles was a key athlete for the Winter Games, so he hurried off to the training center after their morning run.

Chloe didn’t mind running alone. After a short rest, she went to a senior activity center in the apartment complex to do some pull-ups.

The senior center was bustling with old men and women practicing sword dancing and tai chi. A single glance revealed that Chloe was the only young person there.

Chloe’s presence drew the attention of many of the seniors.

But since they were all strangers, no one approached her.

However, what shocked them was when Chloe walked over to a pull-up bar that was nearly six feet high, leaped up effortlessly, grabbed it with both hands, and started doing pull-ups.

Even more surprising was her speed. After five minutes, she was drenched in sweat, but her pace hadn’t slowed in the slightest.

"Whose family is that young lady from? And her face is so pretty!"

"I’ve never seen her before. I wonder if she has a job. My grandson is twenty-four this year. I should see if they’re a good match later."

"Oh, give it a rest. The last time I went to the supermarket, I saw your grandson with a girl who had one of those pointy, V-shaped faces."

"If you ask me, my youngest son is a better fit. He’s twenty-five this year. A little on the older side, sure, but he knows how to dote on a woman."

"..."

Although the seniors were some distance away, Chloe’s hearing was unfortunately too sharp for her to pretend she couldn’t hear them.

After finishing her pull-ups, Chloe shook out her sore arms and decided she wouldn’t be coming back here again.

She remembered how, back in Kennet, plenty of old ladies and gentlemen had also tried to set her up.

But Chloe had barely taken a few steps before a group of old ladies called out to her.

Chloe lightly touched her forehead.

’I really don’t get why I came to this place,’ she thought.

"Young lady, don’t go just yet! We want to ask you something."

Chloe stopped, a hint of resignation in her sigh, and turned to ask, "Yes? What is it?"

Several of the seniors hurried over to her. One of the women even pulled a photograph from her pocket and said, "This is my youngest son. Young lady, would you consider him?"

Chloe was speechless. "..."

"N-No, I’m sorry. I have a boyfriend."

The disappointment in the seniors’ eyes was palpable, and Chloe seized the opportunity to make a quick exit.

She practically fled back to her apartment building. She didn’t even take the elevator, bolting up the stairs to her front door without even stopping to catch her breath.

"What’s wrong?"

Chloe was looking down, patting her chest, when she heard a soft chuckle from right above her.

The voice sounded familiar. Confused, Chloe looked up.

"Mr. Shaw, what are you doing here?"

Jasper Shaw replied, "I’m heading to the old family house today, too. We can go together."

Chloe froze, only then remembering what she had said yesterday.
