Chapter 337 - 336: Visiting the Old Gentleman
All the equipment and instruments on the first floor were far more advanced than anything in the current world. Some were even a century ahead of the present-day technological level.
Her long period of study within the system had also made Chloe Sinclair realize just how backward the current level of technological development was.
She would pursue a new research direction to shatter the current technological limits.
She needed to stir up some waves in this placid era.
However, Eight shook its head. "The God of Study System hasn’t begun its final tally yet. Eight will inform you as soon as the tally is complete."
Chloe Sinclair was a little disappointed.
But after several days of intense mental exertion, her brain felt like a pile of mush.
Since the system hadn’t announced a new mission yet, it gave her some time to rest.
Chloe Sinclair instantly felt better about it.
Coincidentally, with final exams less than a week away, Chloe Sinclair flipped through her books for a bit to review.
「Two hours later...」
Chloe Sinclair suddenly sighed and closed the most advanced textbook for her current level.
’It’s too easy!’
That was Chloe Sinclair’s first thought.
The first time she read it, Chloe Sinclair had thought the book was quite good.
But looking at it again after so long, she felt that everything was perfectly clear.
At that moment, Chloe Sinclair felt a sense of urgency.
She wanted to give all the knowledge she’d learned from the system to society.
KNOCK, KNOCK—
Just as Chloe was getting excited, Eight suddenly spoke up. "Master, Boss Shaw is here!"
Chloe Sinclair’s head snapped up. She slipped on her slippers and headed for the entryway.
"Mr. Shaw!"
Chloe hadn’t seen Jasper Shaw in a few days, and the name "Mr. Shaw" just slipped out.
Jasper Shaw didn’t correct her.
He used to think the young woman calling him "uncle" made him sound old, but now, he found it surprisingly pleasant to hear.
So he didn’t make a point of correcting her.
"Have you eaten?" His voice was rich and deep.
Chloe honestly shook her head. "Not yet."
As she spoke, her eyes fell on the shopping bag in Jasper Shaw’s hands.
"Did you buy groceries?"
Jasper Shaw nodded. "I noticed your fridge was pretty empty last time. I passed by the supermarket outside the complex today, so I picked up a few things for you."
As he spoke, he took off his leather shoes and, with practiced ease, found his pair of black slippers. He carried the bags to the fridge and started putting the items away. "Eat less instant ramen from now on," he said. "If you don’t feel like cooking, you can just have the hotel deliver something."
The apartment was warmly heated. Chloe leaned against the fridge, tilting her head to gaze at his profile, and for a moment, she was completely mesmerized.
Suddenly, she asked, "So when are you coming to stay?"
Jasper Shaw froze, a flicker of panic in his eyes.
When he recovered, he began quickly stuffing the groceries into the fridge. "You’re so young..." he said, "and your father and brother don’t know about us yet. Let’s talk about this later."
The words had barely left his mouth when he realized he’d finished putting everything away.
For a moment, the room fell completely silent.
The air felt stuffy and hot to them both. Despite the weather being more than ten degrees below zero, they were so hot their foreheads were beading with sweat.
In the end, it was Chloe who broke the silence.
She quickly changed the subject. "I bought a ticket for the fifteenth. I’ll be in Emberfall for a few days after my exams to handle the project handover."
The experiments she was in charge of were all complete, but there were still many minor details that needed to be sorted out for the follow-up.
"When is your grandfather free? I’d like to pay him a visit."
