Chapter 291: A Turtleneck, to Block the Wind

Chloe Sinclair fanned her mouth with her hand, her tongue rolling around to soothe the burn, but she couldn’t bear to spit the food out.

"How did I never realize you were such a good cook?"

Jasper Shaw smiled but didn’t say anything.

He didn’t tell her that aside from making noodles, he’d never cooked anything else.

He’d simply spent the last few days learning several new dishes from the villa’s chef, gradually expanding his culinary skills.

Of course, he couldn’t possibly tell her that.

After a moment’s thought, he joked, "Maybe I’m just a natural at cooking?"

Chloe Sinclair snorted, but on second thought, Jasper’s cooking was indeed no worse than a professional chef’s.

So she accepted his explanation.

After finishing breakfast, Chloe Sinclair checked her class schedule for the day.

Jasper Shaw glanced over and saw that Chloe had a full schedule.

After a moment of thought, he said tentatively, "I’ll drive you there in a bit."

Chloe Sinclair was taken aback for a moment, but didn’t think much of it and nodded. "Alright."

’It’s fine, I don’t have to go, it’s no big...’

Jasper Shaw had expected Chloe to refuse him and had already prepared what he would say, but he only realized she had agreed when he was halfway through his sentence.

Jasper Shaw rarely lost his composure.

In the eyes of his family and the media, he had always been a man of few words, never showing the slightest emotion.

But in that moment, a colorful succession of three emotions—disappointment, confusion, and then surprise—appeared in Jasper’s eyes.

Chloe Sinclair stood across from him, tilting her head to study Jasper’s expression. The more she looked at the man before her, the more adorable she found him.

Giving his earlobe a little squeeze, Chloe said, "Let’s go."

A light snow had been falling nonstop for the past few days.

The moment they stepped outside, Chloe couldn’t help but shiver.

"Cold?"

Jasper Shaw saw Chloe curl herself into a ball, and his eyes filled with concern.

"I’m alright. My body just hasn’t adjusted to the temperature outside yet."

As she spoke, Chloe reached out and tugged on Jasper’s overcoat. "Warm me up."

Jasper Shaw lowered his head, his gaze falling on Chloe’s pale fingers, the tips flushed a faint red.

Without hesitation, Jasper’s large hand enveloped hers. Her fingers were ice-cold. He frowned instinctively and pulled her into his arms.

"I can’t come to the apartment tomorrow, so wear more layers when you go to school. The weather in Emberfall is much different from Kennet. You’ll catch a cold easily like this."

Chloe obediently nodded and said earnestly, "You too."

In late November, the temperature in Emberfall was only five or six degrees, and the wind was sharp enough to make your face ache.

And yet, Jasper was only wearing three thin layers.

Chloe didn’t want to experience the illnesses and pains of her past life again, and she didn’t want him to go through them either.

Seeing that he wasn’t taking her seriously, Chloe began to lecture him earnestly. "You’re still young, so you think you’re strong enough not to worry about it. Just wait until you’re old—you’ll be sorry then."

"From now on, you have to wear a sweater underneath, no excuses."

She thought for a moment, then added, "A turtleneck. To block the wind."

Jasper didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He rubbed the back of her hand a couple of times.

He wanted to tell her that he was wearing a vest under his suit and an overcoat on top of that, so he wasn’t cold at all.

Besides, he’d never heard of anyone wearing a turtleneck with a formal suit.

But seeing Chloe’s expression, which clearly threatened to keep glaring at him until he agreed, Jasper nodded indulgently.

"Alright, I’ll wear a turtleneck next time."
