Chapter 281: You’ve All Been Fooled by Chloe Sinclair
Jasper Shaw was a very low-key person; Miller had only ever thought of him as a wealthy entrepreneur from Zenthia.
But he never imagined that his grandfather was the famous Kane Shaw.
"But what does this have to do with Chloe Sinclair?"
"Haven’t you realized the relationship between Jasper Shaw and Chloe Sinclair by now? With him protecting her, we don’t stand a chance."
Just as Miller finished speaking, the sound of wailing police sirens rose from downstairs.
Miller didn’t move a muscle, seeming completely unsurprised.
In contrast, the rest of the people in the laboratory panicked.
Seeing this, Miller simply walked to the window. He extended one hand. When no one opened fire, he then stood in the middle of the window frame.
He shouted, "I surrender."
Soon, all twenty-eight people in the laboratory were rounded up.
As the leader, Miller was taken to a separate interrogation room.
When the police questioned him, Miller suddenly burst out laughing. "I started researching controlled nuclear fusion even before Joel Quincy of Zenthia. From age twenty-two to thirty-eight—for sixteen whole years—that’s all I’ve studied. I understand controlled nuclear fusion better than anyone! So what if I faked a device? What about that little liar from Zenthia, Chloe Sinclair!"
"The Mark Device is already the limit of human achievement! No one will be able to surpass its range for the next twenty years. You’ve all been fooled by her!"
That’s right. From the very beginning, Miller believed his imprisonment was just the result of Chloe Sinclair stumbling into things by sheer luck.
"A hundred years ago, those Muggles in Zenthia couldn’t even afford to eat, let alone conduct nuclear research!"
The interrogating officer was of Asian descent. Hearing Miller’s words, she didn’t feel the slightest bit of anger. Instead, a trace of pity appeared in her eyes.
"Mr. Miller, you may possess academic degrees that others could only dream of achieving in a lifetime, but your cultural literacy is truly lacking."
After a pause, the officer continued, "According to reports from overseas, Mr. Miller, I regret to inform you that Chloe Sinclair’s theory passed the initial review for *Science* immediately. The experimental data within it has been proven to have no signs of fabrication."
"Also, you yourself said ’a hundred years ago.’ The era of not having enough food to eat or warm clothes to wear ended decades ago."
"Mr. Miller, you must have failed world history, didn’t you?"
Color drained from Miller’s face.
The officer had no intention of chatting any further.
The interrogation followed a procedure. After she finished her questions, Miller was led away.
Naturally, the news media wasn’t about to let such a huge story go. They staked out the police station day after day, hoping to get firsthand information.
Some magazines even pulled strings to try and interview Miller himself.
—
Human interest stories have the widest reach.
The official media outlets that got the scoop immediately published the story, and others quickly followed suit by reposting it.
In Meridia alone, it garnered a staggering number of views.
[Oh my God, Miller has embarrassed himself in front of the whole world. If that were me, I’d move to another planet after getting out.]
[This Miller dude has some serious nerve, haha.]
[Miller is a disgrace to Meridia. It’d be best if he never gets out!]
...
Chloe Sinclair closed the tab with the foreign comments, a great weight finally lifting from her heart.
In her past life, Zenthia’s nuclear fusion research had been flourishing. However, it was because of the device from the Miller Laboratory that many labs bought one at any cost. Unexpectedly, the follow-up support couldn’t keep up, and the devices ultimately had to be scrapped.
