Chapter 416 - 218: Someone’s Gone?

"A mountain beyond the mountain, reaching for the sky... Halfway up the slope, a thunderclap shakes the branches high... A person beyond the person, one I can’t leave behind..."

Su Chen reclined leisurely in an armchair on his scenic balcony, listening to music and enjoying the gentle breeze and warm sunlight on his skin.

He hummed along to the music from time to time, his right hand tracing the tune in the air as if he were conducting the melody himself.

"Sir! Sir, you’ll never guess what I just saw!" a rushed, excited voice called out from inside.

Su Chen turned his head to see Chen Fei hurrying toward him, phone in hand.

"What’s got you so worked up?" Su Chen said with a touch of annoyance, seeing how frantic Chen Fei was. "Anyone would think you’d just won the lottery!"

"Heh heh... Sir, we’re famous!" Chen Fei grinned, holding his phone out to Su Chen.

"Hm? Famous?" Su Chen frowned slightly, wondering, ’What could I possibly be famous for?’

When he took the phone and saw the video title, a look of astonishment crossed his face. Su Chen never imagined that such a small, casual act would end up on TikTok.

"Mercedes G-Wagon Owner Rushes Stranger to Hospital Late at Night, Blood Stains Seat!"

What surprised Su Chen was that the person who posted the video was... the official account of the Putuo District Traffic Police.

’We don’t have any connection with them, do we?’ Su Chen mused, rubbing his chin before tapping play on the video.

The video was actually a bit long, running for nearly two minutes.

After watching the video, Su Chen finally understood the whole story. It turned out the man who had flagged them down learned from the doctor that if his wife had arrived just a few minutes later, she could have suffered a major hemorrhage, leading to irreversible harm.

For this reason, once his wife’s condition had stabilized, the man went out of his way to find the Putuo District Traffic Police and explain what had happened.

What Su Chen didn’t know was that, in the past, a matter like this would have likely just fizzled out and been forgotten. After all, such things weren’t uncommon; they just rarely came to light.

However, just a couple of days prior, the traffic police and other related departments had held a special meeting. The main objective was to use platforms like TikTok to promote positive stories and build public trust.

After looking into the matter, the police department learned that one of their own motorcycle officers had been on the scene that night. While he hadn’t provided an escort, he had cleared the traffic violation for running a red light for the two good Samaritans and had recorded the interaction. This immediately caught the department’s attention.

Seeing Chen Fei’s salute in the video, anyone with half a brain realized the incident was perfect for their new publicity initiative.

The department head specifically called in the officer to get the full story. After understanding the details, they consulted with the couple involved, and that’s how the video Su Chen was now watching came to be.

"I can’t believe this video blew up!" Su Chen remarked, a little amazed.

The video already had over 300,000 likes, more than 40,000 comments, and a staggering 100,000-plus shares.

The funny thing was, Su Chen barely appeared in the video at all. Chen Fei, on the other hand, got the most screen time. The shot of his salute at the end was even used as the video’s thumbnail.

He tapped open the comments. Whoa. The top comment had a whopping 300,000 likes, meaning almost everyone who watched the video had liked it.

"Once a soldier, always a soldier. Compassionate law enforcement!"

"Tsk, tsk, tsk..." Su Chen’s gaze fell upon Chen Fei, who had been looking incredibly smug but immediately straightened up.

After looking him up and down, Su Chen said teasingly, "Well, look at you. You’ve become the star of the show."

"You’re a minor celebrity now. You think girls are going to be running up to you on the street asking for autographs and photos?"

At this, Chen Fei’s face fell. "Aw, Sir, don’t tease me. Who would come up to a guy like me!"

Su Chen stroked his chin, a wicked grin spreading across his face. Standing beside him, Chen Fei was suddenly overcome with a bad feeling.

"How about... Chen Fei, you go outside and..."

Before Su Chen could finish, the doorbell rang.

Chen Fei flinched as if he’d been saved by the bell. "I’ll get the door!" he blurted out, practically bolting for the entrance.

Watching Chen Fei beat a hasty retreat, Su Chen shook his head and chuckled, muttering, "That kid really can’t take a joke."

A moment later, Chen Fei returned with Pei Rang, who was carrying a briefcase, in tow.

Su Chen glanced toward the entrance, noticing that Pei Rang was alone. Zong Xinyao and Li Li hadn’t come with him.

"Boss," Pei Rang said, standing respectfully by Su Chen’s side.

Su Chen gave a slight nod in return. He noticed Pei Rang looked exhausted, his eyes visibly bloodshot, and he frowned instantly.

"Did you pull an all-nighter?"

Pei Rang paused for a second before nodding honestly. "The meeting ran late last night. Afterward, President Zong, President Li, and I were discussing the corporate integration plan, and we lost track of time. It turned into an all-nighter."

As he spoke, Pei Rang took a file out of his briefcase and presented it to Su Chen with both hands.

The file wasn’t thick—only four or five pages. Su Chen took it and started looking it over.

Pei Rang held his breath. The senior management team had spent six or seven hours in meetings hammering out this proposal. He and Zong Xinyao had then refined the details to arrive at this final version—the best they could create. ’I just hope the boss is satisfied,’ he thought.
