Chapter 216 - 146: The World Is Big, Yet Small
After hearing their story, Su Chen couldn’t help but be impressed. ’What a classic protagonist’s tale, a real winner in life. He got the girl and built a successful business all through his own hard work.’
Su Chen couldn’t help but marvel. ’Who would’ve thought that a former punk could become a rich man?’ If not for his own recent experiences, he would have assumed he was hearing a work of fiction.
"Where are you two headed?"
Huang Hao jutted his chin toward the Mercedes dealership, indicating he was there to buy a car.
"What about you? Looked like you were about to buy a car, too."
Su Chen nodded. He didn’t hide anything; after all, there was nothing to hide. Buying a car wasn’t some shameful secret.
"Come on, let’s go in together!" Huang Hao said, taking Zhang Ting’s hand and heading inside.
Watching the intimate couple, Su Chen pursed his lips. ’Pah, the sickeningly sweet stench of love!’
By the time Su Chen went inside, a salesperson from the Mercedes dealership was already showing Huang Hao and Zhang Ting a Mercedes GLE—the same model he had bought before.
"Hello, sir. Are you interested in looking at any particular car?" a salesperson asked as she approached him.
"No need, I’m with them," Su Chen said, walking over to Huang Hao and Zhang Ting.
The Mercedes dealership’s salesperson was quite professional, rattling off all sorts of technical terms without pause. Su Chen listened with great interest.
"What do you think, honey?" Huang Hao asked in a low voice.
Overhearing this from behind, Su Chen couldn’t help but smile. ’Looks like Zhang Ting really has him wrapped around her finger. He needs her approval for a big decision like this.’
Zhang Ting spoke with the salesperson for a while, haggling over discounts and freebies. Su Chen got a firsthand look at what real bargaining looked like.
Soon, the two of them finalized the deal with the salesperson.
"Huh? Su Chen, why aren’t you looking at any cars?" Huang Hao suddenly remembered Su Chen standing next to him.
"It’s fine, I’m not in a rush. I already have a model in mind. We can talk after you’re done."
Seeing this, Huang Hao didn’t press the issue. The process of signing papers and swiping the card went by quickly.
Because it was almost the Spring Festival, the dealership had specially brought in a batch of cars so that people who had earned money working elsewhere could buy a car and drive it away immediately.
While Huang Hao and his group went with the manager to handle the vehicle handover ceremony, Su Chen turned to the salesperson, who was tidying up her things, and asked, "Do you have a G-Wagen in stock?"
"A G-Wagen?" The salesperson’s hands froze, and she looked at Su Chen with some surprise.
"Hm?" Seeing the salesperson spacing out, Su Chen made a small sound to get her attention.
Snapping back to reality, the salesperson couldn’t believe she might hit a "daily double." She said excitedly, "Yes, we do! We happen to have a fully-loaded white G500. Would that be of interest to you, sir?"
The salesperson’s attitude became incredibly attentive, but Su Chen was used to it by now.
"Take me to see it."
Upon hearing this, the salesperson immediately led Su Chen toward the garage.
When they got to the garage downstairs, Su Chen immediately spotted the white Mercedes G-Wagen among the many cars.
He opened the door, got in to get a feel for it, and thought it was quite nice.
Just as the salesperson was about to introduce the car’s features, she heard Su Chen’s voice. "Not bad. Let’s just sign the contract."
’Sign the contract?’ The salesperson had been selling cars for several years and had never met such a decisive customer. He was buying it without even needing to hear the pitch.
Luckily, she didn’t just stand there dumbfounded like before and immediately thought to take Su Chen to sign the contract.
But Su Chen didn’t want to make a second trip. He suggested they drive the car out first so he could leave right after the paperwork was done.
The salesperson looked at Su Chen’s nonchalant expression, gritted her teeth, and agreed. It was against the rules, after all. If the car got scratched or scraped while being driven out, who would be responsible?
Su Chen saw the salesperson’s expression and nodded in satisfaction.
The salesperson was incredibly careful driving out of the underground garage, terrified of making any mistake. She only breathed a sigh of relief once she had parked the car in an outdoor spot.
Su Chen was just as decisive when it came to signing the contract. When the salesperson saw him take out a black card from a bank in Switzerland, she immediately understood why he hadn’t wanted to hear her introduce the G500’s features...
It was either because he already knew them or he simply didn’t care.
It was precisely because of the Switzerland bank black card Su Chen had shown that everything went smoothly. Even getting the dealership to handle the license plate registration took only minutes. They even specially arranged a three-digit "premium" number for him.
By the time Su Chen was having his license plate installed, Huang Hao and Zhang Ting were just driving over from the handover area.
When they saw Su Chen leaning against a white Mercedes G-Wagen, neither of them could believe their eyes.
After parking his car, Huang Hao immediately ran over to Su Chen, sizing up the behemoth before him. "Holy shit, Su Chen, is this the car you bought? This has to be over two million, right?!"
"Mhm. All said and done, it was exactly two point six million."
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. I can’t believe you were hiding such a big secret. Playing the underdog, were you?" Huang Hao said, his tone one of mock complaint.
Su Chen saw only surprise and curiosity in Huang Hao’s eyes, with no trace of jealousy.
"What’s with all this ’playing the underdog’ talk? I just got back from Shanghai and didn’t have a car, so I figured I’d just buy something to get around in."
"’Just buy something’? ’To get around in’? Honey, are you hearing this guy? Is he for real? Quick, comfort my wounded heart."
Huang Hao was rendered speechless by Su Chen’s words and went to his girlfriend to seek comfort.
Zhang Ting was also surprised by how much Su Chen had changed, but she wasn’t overly curious. After all, everyone has their own opportunities in life.
After chatting for a while, the three of them drove their new cars away from the Mercedes dealership.
There was a tacit understanding between them not to suggest exchanging contact information. They all knew in their hearts that after this chance meeting, they would likely never see each other again.
