Chapter 1213 - 600: Silencing Witnesses
Luo Fei said this, then went to the café restroom and asked a waiter for a brand-new uniform.
He even gave the other party a hundred yuan as rental.
And when she saw him dressed up like a food delivery guy,
with two bags in his hand,
Shen Yueling couldn’t help but be impressed.
"Mr. Luo, I have to say, dressed like this you really do look like a delivery guy."
Hearing the compliment,
Luo Fei just smiled it off.
"Miss Shen, you’re flattering me. I only want to look a bit more down-to-earth."
"Mr. Luo, you really did pull it off. As long as you keep your cap and mask on, everyone will think you’re just a delivery guy. But if you take them off, people will spot you right away. Your aura is the real deal."
Shen Yueling herself hadn’t expected that she would actually open her mouth to praise Luo Fei.
But he seemed not to notice the slightly flustered look on her face.
Instead, he spoke in a faint tone.
"Let’s go, Miss Shen, get in the car."
She glanced at her watch; it was a little after 6 p.m.
The sun hadn’t set yet.
Luo Fei and the others still had some time.
So Shen Yueling began to wonder.
Just where exactly was Luo Fei taking her?
And just as Shen Yueling was quietly puzzling over it,
feeling more than a little confused,
their car had already pulled up in front of a nightclub entrance.
But when she saw the scene here,
Shen Yueling couldn’t help being surprised.
"Mr. Luo, what did you bring me here for?"
She looked around.
When she took in the surroundings,
Shen Yueling thought Luo Fei must have gone to the wrong place.
But Luo Fei said,
"Miss Shen, it’ll be a little while before it gets dark, so I need you to come with me to look into an earlier case. I hope you don’t mind."
Seeing how Luo Fei spoke so casually, as if nothing was out of the ordinary,
Shen Yueling didn’t ask much. Half skeptical, she followed him into the nightclub.
But just as the two of them reached the entrance,
they were stopped by the lobby manager.
"Please wait, you two."
At first, Shen Yueling thought the lobby manager had seen how Luo Fei was dressed
and wasn’t going to let him in.
But unexpectedly,
the other man’s face broke into a broad smile,
and he said excitedly,
"Mr. Luo, you finally made it."
"We’ve been waiting for you here for so long."
Hearing the excitement in his voice,
Luo Fei also smiled.
"Oh?"
"Yes, Mr. Luo. After what happened last time, a lot of people have been very worried. They’re afraid that if something similar happens to them, it’ll be a huge problem."
Seeing the way the other man was on the verge of saying more yet holding back,
Shen Yueling couldn’t help being curious.
What exactly was he talking about?
After all, if it had been a murder or something like that,
this nightclub ought to have been shut down already.
But in reality,
this nightclub was still operating.
"Mr. Luo, this is the room. The woman in question stayed in this room, and then she disappeared."
"And the strangest part is, she left all her belongings in the room and didn’t take them with her. She just vanished afterward."
After the lobby manager’s explanation,
Shen Yueling finally understood.
It turned out a girl had checked into this hotel.
When she checked in, she was chatting and laughing with the staff, and very politely greeted them.
But in the middle of the night, she suddenly left the hotel in a hurry,
as if she’d encountered something terrifying.
And after that, aside from taking her phone,
she never came back.
They had a bad feeling about it,
because the girl hadn’t even come to check out.
She didn’t take her clothes or luggage either.
So even the hotel staff suspected she might already have been killed.
This in turn caused a certain degree of panic.
After hearing his explanation,
Shen Yueling suddenly saw the whole picture.
"So that’s how it is?"
"In that case, your hotel is actually being pretty responsible?"
Seeing her somewhat surprised look,
the lobby manager neither agreed nor disagreed.
"Miss Shen, our hotel has been actively cooperating with the police investigation and doing our best to reassure the victim’s family. But the girl’s fiancé and her parents still refuse to let it go."
"They say that because the girl disappeared while she was staying here, we need to compensate them for mental anguish."
According to the lobby manager,
the nightclub owner at the time had already put up 200,000 yuan as a sort of condolence payment.
But the girl’s parents still demanded an outrageous amount. They insisted that from then on, their family members should always stay at the hotel for free, and they even wanted the nightclub owner to attend the girl’s funeral, kneel, and apologize.
This enraged the owner at the time.
But under public pressure, he had no choice but to agree to their demands.
"But after that, he never recovered. Eventually he withdrew completely. This hotel is now being managed by his son, Young Master Zhou. To date, this nightclub has been running for over a year. Business isn’t terrible, but it’s nowhere near good."
"And not to mention, the former Boss Zhou still has a knot in his heart to this day. He broods over it, feeling like he ruined that girl. And ever since then, our hotel added a new rule: if guests want to leave during the night, they have to sign a waiver."
The manager spoke, his tone again trailing off.
This made Shen Yueling understand.
In a situation like this,
the owner of this place was essentially powerless.
But he had no other options.
So he could only swallow his anger for the time being and secretly ask the police to investigate.
Seeing how the manager kept wanting to say more,
his expression a bit complicated,
clearly feeling it was unfair to his boss,
Luo Fei quickly offered some comfort.
"Manager, I understand your feelings and the difficulties you’re facing. You must want to get some justice for your boss."
"But don’t worry. We police will do everything we can to investigate this case."
As he spoke, Luo Fei asked the manager for a backup of the surveillance footage from the day of the incident at the nightclub,
as well as the record the woman had personally filled out when checking in and the handwritten copy.
But when the manager saw that Luo Fei was ready to leave after getting the materials,
he still looked uneasy.
"Mr. Luo, we’ve actually gone to the police many times before, but the results have always been disappointing. So...our last hope is basically all pinned on you."
Hearing this,
Luo Fei smiled and reassured him.
"Don’t worry, Manager. I’m not like the others. I’ll get to the bottom of this."
At this point,
Luo Fei turned to look at Shen Yueling.
"Miss Shen, as I recall, your family’s old residence has a projector we can use, right?"
His sudden question made
Shen Yueling give a noncommittal answer.
"Yes, Mr. Luo. I remember there’s a guest room in that house for the nanny. There’s a double bed in there. That might be the only space in the whole villa that hasn’t been taken over."
As they talked,
the two of them had already gotten into the car.
Luo Fei smiled.
"Perfect. Once we get there, we can watch these tapes."
Luo Fei’s tone was faint as he spoke.
But Shen Yueling couldn’t help being taken aback.
"Huh? Mr. Luo, you’re saying you want to stay overnight at our villa?"
"Yeah. Is there a problem?"
Luo Fei said it as if it were nothing.
But Shen Yueling suddenly grew inexplicably nervous.
She had a feeling something bad might happen tonight.
But in order to solve the case as soon as possible,
she could only agree.
"It’s nothing. If Mr. Luo wants to come, then come. Even if no one lives in that villa, the water and electricity are still on, because there’s a separate backup generator."
"That’s great. Otherwise I’d be worried that if there were no power, we couldn’t project the surveillance footage on the big screen and carefully go through this segment."
