Genesis & Oblivion: The Celestial Evolution System

Chapter 65 — The Fifth Lesson

Sponsored

The first light of morning touched the white world.

Azrael stood beside the lake, staring at the unfamiliar glow spreading across the horizon.

After everything he had experienced inside the Thirteenth Gate, something as simple as sunrise felt strangely important.

The old master stood beneath the white tree.

"You’re leaving today."

Azrael looked at him.

"Today?"

The old master nodded.

"Your training here isn’t finished."

Azrael glanced at Astraeus.

"Then why send me back?"

"Because the Forgotten Path isn’t a place you can remain forever."

He looked toward the distant horizon.

"Eventually, you must walk through the world you wish to understand."

Azrael understood.

The old master wasn’t sending him away because his training was complete.

He was sending him away because the next lesson couldn’t be learned here.

"What’s the fifth lesson?"

The old master smiled.

"Consequences."

Azrael frowned.

"Consequences?"

"You’ve learned how to fight."

"You’ve learned when to stop."

"You’ve learned how to read your opponent."

"But none of those things matter if you don’t understand what happens after the battle."

The old master picked up a small stone.

"Every action creates something."

He threw it into the lake.

A ripple spread.

"Even the smallest decision."

Another ripple followed.

"You cannot fight without changing the world around you."

Azrael watched the water.

"So the fifth lesson is..."

"Responsibility."

The old master nodded.

"Power without responsibility eventually becomes destruction."

Azrael remained quiet.

Then a familiar chime echoed.

Ding.

"New Lesson Registered"

Fifth Lesson: Consequences

Objective: Experience the consequences of your decisions.

Reward: Unknown

Azrael stared at the notification.

"You’re letting the System record the lesson?"

"I didn’t tell it to."

The old master smiled.

"It already knows."

Azrael suddenly noticed something.

The white stone in his hand had changed.

A thin silver line now ran across its surface.

He raised it.

"Is this from the Guardian?"

"Partly."

"What does it do?"

"You’ll find out."

Azrael sighed.

"You’re really good at avoiding answers."

"I’m old."

"That’s not an excuse."

The old master laughed.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then Lyra climbed onto Azrael’s shoulder.

Azrael glanced at the six-tailed fox.

"You’re coming too?"

Lyra closed her eyes.

Apparently, the decision had already been made.

The old master smiled.

"She chose you."

Azrael gently scratched her head.

"Then I suppose I have another companion."

The old master walked toward the entrance.

"Come."

The Thirteenth Gate appeared in the distance.

Unlike before, it no longer looked mysterious.

Its massive stone doors stood open.

Beyond them was the Academy.

The familiar world.

The old master stopped before the entrance.

"This is where we separate."

Azrael looked at him.

"When will I see you again?"

The old master smiled.

"When you need the next lesson."

Azrael nodded.

Then he hesitated.

"Master."

The old man’s expression softened.

It was the first time Azrael had called him that.

"Yes?"

"Thank you."

The old master said nothing.

He simply placed one hand on Azrael’s shoulder.

"Don’t thank me yet."

Azrael looked confused.

The old master smiled.

"You’ll probably hate me after the next lesson."

Azrael laughed.

"Then I’ll save my thanks."

He stepped through the Gate.

The white world disappeared behind him.

The Trial Tower was silent.

Azrael appeared inside the same chamber where he had entered the Thirteenth Gate.

Only three hours had passed.

Yet his body felt as though weeks had gone by.

He looked around.

Nothing had changed.

Then—

BOOM!

A distant explosion shook the tower.

Azrael’s expression changed.

Another explosion followed.

BOOM!

People were shouting outside.

"What’s happening?"

Azrael immediately moved toward the exit.

The moment he stepped into the corridor, he saw several academy instructors running past.

One stopped when he noticed Azrael.

"You!"

Azrael turned.

"What’s happening?"

The instructor looked shocked.

"You were inside the Thirteenth Gate?"

"Yes."

"You need to leave immediately."

"Why?"

The instructor hesitated.

Then—

A massive alarm echoed through the Trial Tower.

WARNING.

WARNING.

Unauthorized breach detected.

Academy defensive barrier compromised.

Azrael’s eyes narrowed.

"Who attacked?"

The instructor’s face became grim.

"We don’t know."

A second notification appeared.

All students are ordered to remain inside their assigned territories.

Do not engage unknown forces.

Faculty members are responding.

Azrael looked toward the ceiling.

The Academy had been attacked.

And somehow...

He had returned at exactly the wrong time.

Or perhaps—

Exactly the right time.

Far away in the Golden Sanctuary, Seraphina heard the alarm.

Every disciple stopped training.

Elder Solis appeared above the courtyard.

His expression was unusually serious.

"Everyone."

His voice echoed across the Sanctuary.

"Remain calm."

The golden sky suddenly darkened.

A massive crack appeared above the clouds.

Several disciples stared upward.

Seraphina’s hand tightened around her sword.

Caelan stepped beside her.

"This isn’t a normal attack."

She nodded.

"I know."

Something was coming through the crack.

Not an army.

Not a monster.

A single person.

A tall figure dressed in black robes slowly descended from the opening.

No aura.

No killing intent.

Nothing.

That was what made him terrifying.

Elder Solis immediately stepped forward.

"Identify yourself."

The stranger looked down.

Then smiled.

"I’m looking for someone."

Solis’ eyes narrowed.

"Who?"

The stranger’s gaze swept across the disciples.

It stopped on Seraphina.

Her heart suddenly tightened.

The stranger smiled.

"There."

Seraphina’s golden eyes narrowed.

"Me?"

"Yes."

He slowly raised one hand.

"I finally found the other half."

The entire courtyard fell silent.

Caelan stepped in front of Seraphina.

"You won’t touch her."

The stranger looked at him.

For the first time, his expression changed.

Amusement.

"You?"

Caelan tightened his grip on his spear.

"Try me."

The stranger laughed softly.

"Interesting."

Then his eyes returned to Seraphina.

"You really don’t remember."

Seraphina’s expression hardened.

"Remember what?"

The stranger smiled.

"Your brother does not remember either."

Seraphina froze.

Azrael.

The stranger lowered his hand.

"Tell him..."

His voice became strangely soft.

"...that the people who erased your past have finally found you."

Then the sky cracked again.

The stranger disappeared.

The alarm continued ringing.

Seraphina stood motionless.

Caelan looked at her.

"Are you alright?"

She didn’t answer immediately.

Her hand slowly moved to her chest.

Her heart was racing.

And somewhere deep inside her...

A memory stirred.

A pair of enormous wings.

A burning sky.

A voice calling her name.

Then—

Nothing.

Seraphina closed her eyes.

"Azrael..."

Back in the main Academy...

Azrael stood in the corridor, listening to the alarms.

The white stone in his hand suddenly became warm.

Lyra’s six tails rose.

Azrael looked down.

The silver line across the stone had begun glowing.

Then the System appeared.

"Resonance Link Detected"

Source: Seraphina

Distance: Unknown

Connection strength: Increasing

Warning.

A sealed memory has been disturbed.

Azrael’s expression changed.

"Seraphina..."

He immediately started running.

He didn’t know what had happened.

He didn’t know who had attacked the Academy.

He didn’t know why someone was searching for the twins.

But he knew one thing.

Whatever had awakened inside him...

Something had awakened inside Seraphina too.

And this time, the Fifth Lesson had already begun.

Consequences.
