Genesis & Oblivion: The Celestial Evolution System

Chapter 46 – One Hundred Moves

Sponsored

The arena was silent.

No wind.

No dust.

No cheering.

Hundreds of surviving participants stood on the outer edge of the battlefield, watching without speaking.

The Judicator rested both hands on its colossal spear.

Azrael stood thirty meters away with Astraeus held loosely at his side.

Neither moved.

Seconds passed.

Then a minute.

Marcus rubbed the back of his head.

"...Why aren’t they fighting?"

Professor Duran answered from outside the Tower.

"They already are."

Azrael’s eyes never left the Judicator.

Its stance looked relaxed.

Too relaxed.

Weight evenly distributed.

No unnecessary tension.

No obvious opening.

The spear pointed toward the ground, yet somehow threatened every direction.

"It’s inviting you to attack."

Astraeus spoke calmly.

"No."

Azrael replied inwardly.

"It’s inviting me to make the first mistake."

The spirit laughed softly.

"Exactly."

The System appeared.

Observation Trial

Rule Added

The challenger must survive one hundred exchanges.

Victory is not required.

The spectators blinked.

Only survive?

Ryan frowned.

"That sounds easier."

Headmaster Orion shook his head.

"No."

"Against an opponent like the Judicator..."

"Surviving is far harder than winning against an ordinary enemy."

The Judicator finally moved.

One step.

It wasn’t fast.

It simply crossed ten meters in a single stride.

Azrael’s pupils contracted.

"It isn’t teleporting..."

"Its stride is just unbelievably efficient."

The spear thrust forward.

No flashy technique.

No explosion of energy.

Just a straight thrust.

Azrael rotated his body instead of jumping backward.

The spear scraped across his chest armor.

Sparks flew.

A shallow line appeared in the armor.

The attack had missed his heart by less than two centimeters.

Before Azrael could recover—

The spear shaft rotated.

The rear end struck toward his knee.

He dropped his center of gravity.

The strike passed over him.

At the same time...

Astraeus flashed upward.

Not to attack.

To occupy the Judicator’s spear.

Steel met steel.

CLANG!

The impact traveled through Azrael’s arms.

He didn’t resist it.

He allowed the force to flow through his body, stepping diagonally to bleed away the momentum.

The Sword Saint’s lessons.

Never stop force.

Redirect it.

The Judicator withdrew.

Exchange 1

Outside...

Professor Duran smiled.

"He remembered."

The Judicator attacked again.

This time the spear swept horizontally.

Azrael didn’t block.

He stepped inside the arc.

Too close for the blade to generate full power.

The giant instantly changed grips.

The spear became a staff.

The butt end shot toward Azrael’s ribs.

He caught it with his forearm.

Pain shot through the bone.

His guard almost collapsed.

The Judicator followed with a shoulder check.

Azrael crossed Astraeus between them.

BOOM!

He slid backward twenty meters.

His boots carved deep trenches into the arena.

Exchange 2

"Don’t focus on the weapon."

Astraeus warned.

"Watch its shoulders."

"No..."

Azrael corrected.

"Watch its feet."

The shoulders could lie.

The weapon could feint.

But the feet...

Determined where the body’s power truly traveled.

Exchange Three.

The Judicator spun its spear overhead.

A feint.

Azrael ignored the spear completely.

Instead...

He watched the giant’s rear foot.

It pivoted inward.

"Thrust."

Azrael sidestepped before the attack even began.

The spear pierced empty air.

For the first time...

Astraeus touched the Judicator’s armor.

A tiny spark appeared.

No damage.

But contact.

The giant construct paused for half a heartbeat.

As though acknowledging the improvement.

Exchange 3

The pace increased.

Exchange Four.

Five.

Six.

Seven.

Each attack forced Azrael to think differently.

Sometimes the Judicator fought like a spearman.

Sometimes like a swordsman.

Sometimes it abandoned weapon techniques entirely and used elbows, knees, and body weight.

It wasn’t teaching spear combat.

It was teaching combat itself.

By the twentieth exchange...

Sweat soaked Azrael’s clothes.

His breathing grew heavier.

His Celestial Energy remained above sixty percent.

But his concentration...

Was being consumed far faster.

One lapse.

One wrong read.

The duel would end instantly.

The Judicator suddenly disappeared.

Not because of speed.

Because it stepped into Azrael’s blind spot.

The spear descended from above.

Azrael rolled.

Stone exploded where he had been.

Before he could rise—

The spear’s shadow covered him again.

Too soon.

No time.

He couldn’t dodge.

He couldn’t block.

Then...

He noticed something.

The Judicator’s grip.

The lower hand had shifted farther down the shaft.

Increasing reach.

Reducing leverage.

Azrael smiled.

"Found you."

Instead of retreating...

He lunged toward the giant.

Inside the spear’s strongest range.

The Judicator’s downward strike lost most of its power.

Azrael’s shoulder crashed into its armored chest.

The impact barely moved the construct.

But that wasn’t the goal.

Astraeus slid across the spear shaft...

Toward the Judicator’s hands.

The giant released one hand immediately.

Preventing its fingers from being cut.

Again...

It chose the most efficient answer.

Exchange 31

Outside the arena...

Headmaster Orion folded his arms.

"He isn’t surviving anymore."

Professor Lyra looked confused.

"What do you mean?"

"He’s gathering information."

Thirty-five.

Thirty-six.

Thirty-seven.

The Judicator began changing rhythms.

Fast.

Slow.

Fast.

Slow.

Then suddenly...

Slow.

Slow.

Explosive.

Azrael nearly lost his footing.

His timing was disrupted.

The spear clipped his shoulder.

Blood stained his sleeve.

He immediately retreated.

Not because he feared the next attack.

Because he needed to reset the tempo.

"Excellent."

Astraeus approved.

"You recognized the rhythm break."

By the fiftieth exchange...

The spectators no longer saw two combatants.

They saw a conversation.

Every strike asked a question.

Every defense answered it.

Every movement revealed understanding.

Even Lucian, watching from afar, whispered,

"...Amazing."

Valeria clenched her fists.

"I’ve never seen combat like this."

The Judicator suddenly stopped attacking.

It lowered its spear.

The arena fell silent.

The System chimed.

Midpoint Reached

Fifty Exchanges Completed.

Difficulty Increase Initiated.

Golden lines spread across the giant’s armor.

Its six wings unfolded completely.

The pressure doubled.

The spear began radiating faint silver light.

Not mana.

Law.

Azrael inhaled slowly.

His Eclipse Wings opened behind him.

The silver feathers darkened at the edges.

His Eclipse Halo rotated above his head.

For the first time since entering the Academy...

He consciously synchronized all three.

Halo.

Wings.

Sword.

The three resonated together.

A gentle hum echoed across the arena.

The System responded.

New Combat State Detected

Partial Eclipse Synchronization

Current Efficiency:

31%

The Judicator lifted its spear once more.

This time...

It smiled.

Not with lips.

Not with a face.

But with its intent.

It had finally recognized Azrael as someone worthy of receiving the second half of the lesson.

High above the arena...

The silver-haired woman quietly watched her son.

A faint smile appeared on her face.

"He finally understands..."

"...that combat is not about defeating an opponent."

"It is about understanding the truth hidden within every exchange."

The next fifty moves would determine not who was stronger...

But how far Azrael had evolved as a warrior.
