Getting Stronger By Fighting

All the eyes of those present fell on Wang Zhan, and they were genuinely moved. No one expected that in such a life-threatening situation, Wang Zhan would not think of his own welfare at all, and instead considered the people around him. This sentiment was enough to elicit gratitude.

Wang Zhan’s gaze was already on the Spirit Devouring Beast before him. After he slightly squinted his eyes, he slowly spoke, "I am a person of my word, but you must first let my friends go and then hand Xiang Tian over to me, so my friends can take him away. Only after you meet these two conditions will I stay here and let you train your skills with me."

Wang Zhan knew well in his heart that the Spirit Devouring Beast before him was likely a demon sealed on the Star War Battlefield, a power that far exceeded their imagination. Most likely, these were the demons the four supreme beings dealt with in the past. Although the origins of the current demon were unclear, Wang Zhan understood that dealing with it would not be an easy task.

At least, it’s not something that can be accomplished by the few people here now.

After hesitating for a moment, Wang Zhan’s gaze fell on the Spirit Devouring Beast again, clearly waiting for its response.

However, the Spirit Devouring Beast’s mouth curled into a cold smile as it shook its head and said, "You like negotiating terms with me, but have you considered that with your level of strength, how could you possibly contend with me? You are merely a clown in my presence, unqualified to negotiate. I advise you to surrender obediently before I get angry, and I can spare your life."

This was the Spirit Devouring Beast’s greatest leniency. The people present could not leave unharmed, for if others knew of its presence, not only would people throughout the sea domain rise against it, even those on the Star War Battlefield would do the same. If true strong beings were provoked, even though its strength had mostly recovered, it still wouldn’t have the ability to challenge them and all efforts would be wasted.

Wang Zhan slightly squinted his eyes, listening to the Spirit Devouring Beast for a while before frowning and saying, "Impossible. If you truly mean to do that, then you shouldn’t think you can control me or get the Spirit Devouring Beast’s power through me!"

The Spirit Devouring Beast didn’t pay him any mind. If threatened by strong beings on the Star War Battlefield, there might be leverage, but the few people with Wang Zhan lacked strength and were not worth consideration.

"An intriguing thought crossed my mind; your outcome is the same anyway, so why should I hold back? I might as well play a good game, pushing you to the limit. I am curious if you’d turn against your friends."

Wang Zhan and his companions looked at the Spirit Devouring Beast strangely, not understanding its words.

In the next moment, the Spirit Devouring Beast clapped its hands, and Wang Zhan and the others felt the air tremble as a figure appeared before them. Once they clearly saw the man standing before them, Wang Zhan’s breath became rapid because it was none other than Xiang Tian, who had been missing for some time. He hadn’t expected to meet Xiang Tian here.

Wang Zhan’s breath became rapid. But Xiang Tian seemed different than usual; his pupils had turned a frightening blood-red, their depth indeterminable. Wang Zhan could sense that Xiang Tian’s power was rising continuously, even far exceeding his imagination. In this state, even if they fought, Xiang Tian might not be at a disadvantage.

Yet Wang Zhan knew Xiang Tian’s strength; even if Xiang Tian had persisted in training, surpassing him wouldn’t be easy.

The Sword Spirit beside him frowned and said, "Damn it, Xiang Tian is controlled by the Spirit Devouring Beast. He is now a killing machine, without thought or independent thinking ability. What should we do next?"

The Sword Spirit’s meaning was evident; Xiang Tian had lost his Divine Sense completely. Even if Wang Zhan’s men wanted to spare him, Xiang Tian wouldn’t, instead launching aggressive attacks, which is the most troublesome part.

Beside him, Wang Zhan’s expression became tense; he clenched his teeth and spoke after a moment’s hesitation, "Regardless of the reason, Xiang Tian remains our friend, and we are brothers. Even if he’s lost his awareness, I must help him recover, not let him become a puppet! If rescue is impossible, it might be better..."

Wang Zhan didn’t finish, but seeing his look, the others understood. Wang Zhan was ready to strike Xiang Tian, since living like this would be a great suffering for Xiang Tian, and saving him might be a release.

The Sword Spirit bit his teeth and said, "Since we’ve decided this, let’s not waste more time; dealing with Xiang Tian is urgent. His power is rising rapidly; if we don’t act now, the situation will get out of control, becoming troublesome later!"

Everybody nodded; Wang Zhan could see Xiang Tian’s abnormal condition, as did others.

Beside Wang Zhan, the Fire Qilin folded its arms and said, "Seems the Spirit Devouring Beast has strength; he can turn others into puppets, battle machines, even enhance their power. Terrifying! Be cautious, as it’s beyond your imagination. Avoid using your killing move unless urgent; if possible, escape immediately and don’t mind us!"

The Fire Qilin was obviously considering Wang Zhan, but Wang Zhan smiled lightly, folded his arms, and said, "We are a team, so I won’t abandon everyone easily, even if we must die here."

"Things aren’t as severe as you said." The Hexagonal Golden Snake spoke blandly, "Though controlled, we might suppress him jointly, and later find a way to cure him. But the real issue is handling the Spirit Devouring Beast; its strength is perplexing, making it hard to tell if I’m its match, which is the real concern..."

The others knew this; though Zhao Feiyu and Li Du’s strength was much weaker than the others, they still felt the formidable energy the Spirit Devouring Beast emitted, which far surpassed the Fire Qilin and Sword Spirit, revealing its intimidating power. If a clash occurred, they’d gain nothing. Escaping unharmed itself was challenging.

After thinking, Wang Zhan clutched his fist, looked at those around him, and instructed, "Everyone, I won’t say more; you know my bond with Xiang Tian. So unless urgent, give me some face and don’t strike Xiang Tian!"

"This is my only request!"

Everyone exchanged looks, nodded; despite the potential risk, this was a strategy ensuring Xiang Tian’s safety, as no one wanted to harm him.

Soon, the Spirit Devouring Beast spoke irritably, "Stop dawdling. I don’t want to waste time; I’ll show you your friend’s strength and how insignificant you are in his eyes. I can make you as strong as him, but you must stay in this space."

"Rest assured, as I’ll soon break through this space and return to the Star War Battlefield, bringing unrivaled glory; through me, you’ll feel universal grace!"

Seeing this intimidating stance, Wang Zhan clutched his fist and coldly said, "Dream on!"
