Chapter 3: Peeking Into Jupiter Lady’s Lounge Will Get You Killed
After Theo made the call, he was asked to appear at the Agency, and then to take care of the bathrooms. When he was done, the Head of Maintenance went to check them and came back grinning.
"Goodness, looks like you were born to clean toilets, I could see my teeth on them."
Theo stood upright.
"I put my soul into it sir."
The man touched Theo’s shoulder and smiled. "I want you to keep doing that, okay?" He walked forward and continued to explain. "We needed a Janitor urgently, which is why you were given the benefit of the doubt."
He paused and turned back.
"For some reason, our last janitor is in a coma."
He sighed. "My God, that’s how many janitors in a coma now?" He shook his head and kept walking.
Theo gulped silently and followed him. But his thoughts were insanely busy.
’Uh? Uh? Janitors are ending up in coma? Why are janitors ending up in coma. Is this a good idea?’
’Wait... actually, this might be a great idea. If I manage to solve the reason Janitors keep ending up in comas, I might just hit the jackpot and get noticed by Jupiter Lady. Me, a mere Janitor, being commended by the Jupiter Lady. Now, wouldn’t that be awesome?’
Theo was grinning as he followed the Head of Maintenance.
The man showed him around, describing the rooms and handing him keys to almost everywhere. He told him where he could not enter and emphasized how important those places were.
They were mainly the private areas of the Heroes and Heroines managed by the Elevation Hero Agency. And of course, one of those places belonged to the famed Jupiter Lady. His lifelong idol.
’I’m sneaking in tonight!’
The man finally returned to his office.
"As long as you stick your nose in your business, you get to go home and get paid. And not end up in a coma somehow. You hear me, boy?"
Theo nodded respectfully.
The man grabbed a cigar off his office table and stuck it in his mouth. He moved to the window blinds and rolled them down, speaking to Theo in a muffled voice around the cigar.
"Mhaf hime oo-you, ready tuo work?"
He took the cigar out and finally lit it. And spoke properly this time.
"When will you be ready to work?"
Theo, who had been confused before, finally got the message.
"This night sir!"
He responded like his life depended on it.
The man took one smoke and exhaled it, then stared at Theo.
"You’re one hell of a hard worker, aren’t you?"
He exhaled another smoke.
"Well, I’m not gonna stop you. I like diligence, I’ll make sure you get paid well, if you work hard enough."
He tossed a bunch of keys to him.
"You can come rest here if you get tired."
Theo caught the keys and looked at the man appreciatively. He bowed.
"Thank you sir!"
"It’s alright, I’ve got a kid about your age. I’d want people to be kind to him, so it only makes sense that I should be kind to others."
The man sighed and began packing his stuff.
After a while, he bade Theo farewell and left the office.
The sky was darkening, and the city seemed busier than usual as people streamed home from work. Now and then, a figure could be seen flying across the sky. Despite the night, Meteor City glowed as colorful as a paradise of light.
And the Elevation Agency skyscraper reflected all those colors back at itself. Theo stood at the window, taking in the breathtaking beauty of the city. Then he suddenly saw a figure in a yellow-and-white suit, a short flared skirt barely reaching her mid-thighs, fly across and land right in front of the building.
’Jupiter Lady!’
He leaned in until his nose nearly touched the window.
’I can’t believe I get to see Jupiter Lady on my first night working here.’
At the same time, his face fell as he retreated from the window.
"I wish I could see her more..." he muttered to himself.
For a moment, the Head of Maintenance’s instructions and warnings sounded in his mind.
Then Theo thought about how long he had fantasized about this very moment. He didn’t need to meet her directly. If he could just take a peek and get a real look at her ass and breasts, so his AI generations could come out more accurate, he’d be satisfied.
’Yes... that will be more than enough.’
Theo squared his shoulders. He buttoned his uniform and tucked it in before leaving the office. Afterwards, he located the mop bucket and stationed himself on the floor where Jupiter Lady’s work area was.
There were usually three to five heroes to a floor, depending on their ranks. Jupiter Lady was the highest-ranked hero in the Elevation Hero Agency, and because of that, she was the only one on the twentieth floor.
Of course, this didn’t mean she was the only one there. There were other workers too: her communications team, her public relations team, her managerial team, her transportation team, all of them working to make every mission a success, both financially and reputation-wise.
But most of them were exiting the building as Theo cleaned the floor.
After a couple of minutes, they were all gone. And Theo found himself in a graveyard silence, one so deep that every step he took sounded almost deafening.
He tiptoed to Jupiter Lady’s lounge, where he eased the door open to peek.
However, he shuddered.
Because what he saw was not by any means what he had expected.
There was a man seated on the couch, and Theo could see his face clearly. Below him, he could see Jupiter Lady’s blonde hair... she was kneeling. And her mouth was on something, her head kept going up and down, and the man held her hair, saying:
"Yes, good girl, like that..."
Theo’s heart began drumming so loud that he could hear it. He studied the man again. The face looked familiar, but his mind was too foggy to place it.
Jupiter Lady was human too, at the end of the day. She probably had her lovers and did nasty things with them. But none of that helped the immense pain tearing his heart apart.
He clutched his chest and staggered back without realizing it. Before he could catch himself, he fell to the floor, alerting those inside.
Jupiter Lady snapped her head towards the door.
"Someone is there..."
At the same time, the man, with obsidian eyes and properly groomed ink-black hair, glanced back too. Then he said:
"What are you doing, kill him."
As those words came out of the man so easily, Theo’s mind finally snapped the familiar face into a name.
Someone who found it very easy to kill.
’Disaster King. That monster who’s been harassing Jupiter Lady in every fight?! H-How could she?!’
He was devastated, but he could not stay on that floor a second longer, so he scrambled up and bolted down the corridor.
It was stupid of him to think he could outrun an S-rank Hero.
He made it to the end, but as he reached for the door, a blur shot after him and slammed his head viciously against the elevator door. Blood splattered across the metal, and Theo’s vision went blank.
Jupiter Lady held his head with a cold expression.
"Why does every janitor not know how to mind their damn business. I have to tell the Captain about this."
As she spoke, in that same emotionless voice, she kept smashing Theo’s head against the door, hard enough that the metal was caving in and his face was coming apart with every blow.
Then she released him, letting him fall to the ground like a broken doll. At that time, the Disaster King appeared out of thin air, wearing a tailored dark-blue suit. One hand in his pocket, he stared down at Theo’s bloody face with disinterest.
"Ah, the Jupiter Lady. So cruel even to her fans, and yet begging me for crumbs of love because she can’t resist a handsome man."
Jupiter Lady turned to him with a frown.
"Don’t tease me, I don’t like it. They’re not my fans, they’re just creepy deadweights who lock themselves in their rooms and goon to my AI-generated images. If they’d just leave it at that, I’d be grateful."
She sighed and looked into the Disaster King’s eerie eyes. Her cheeks were turning faintly pink.
"But you... you are different. You’re a man, strong and capable, that is why I will do anything."
She glanced at Theo one more time. Even though his face was ruined and overflowing with blood, he could still see, dimly, through the haze. And through the roar of pain he could still hear their voices, and it devastated him.
Jupiter Lady raised her leg and crushed it into his stomach, tearing his bowels open and flooding the floor with his blood, irritated, as if she’d just stepped on a cockroach.
Then she walked away, calling to the Disaster King, "Come on, that roach has ruined my mood already, let’s have a few shots and get drunk, maybe I’ll let you enslave me tonight."
The Disaster King spared him a pitying look and turned away, walking off with a smile as he answered.
"Oh, I enslave you every night."
"That’s because I let you."
"You’re powerless, you’re just a sheep wearing the body of a tigress. Looks like I have to remind you of that today too."
They walked inside the room, while Theo’s body lay lifeless on the ground.
That was how the life of a promising young man ended, just because he met his hero. What happened next, though... Theo did not expect.
