Theo almost felt overwhelmed by the whole thing, the notifications still hanging in his vision one stacked over the next, but then he sat back and carefully cataloged everything in his mind.
’This is quite a lot of upgrades. And rewards... First, I guess, I have discovered three types of investment, there’s the standard one, the hidden and now the life-risk. And investment grade, there’s the Low, mid, high, and now Exceptional.’
Theo shifted his gaze slightly.
’What’s very surprising is Estea... why is she the one affected the most by what I did but the one who seemed most offended. That woman...’
Theo chuckled internally.
It had merely been a speculation in his mind, but now he felt like he was slowly understanding Estea. He might dare say he was understanding her better than Thalleria.
’Thall is an open book, but she doesn’t exactly let you turn the pages...’
He raised his hand and clenched it, and even that small motion felt different, denser, more his own.
"This is great... now, I need to actually enter the Tower..."
As Theo studied more of the skills, he came to the Chiropractor one and stopped, the heat climbing up his neck until his ears burned. The nurses passing by kept glancing over as he lifted a hand to cover the lower half of his face.
’What in the useless skill is this. Those women will never let me touch them even if it’s for the right purpose!’
Theo frowned, then he sighed.
"Perhaps, I might have been able to reason with Thall, but I swear I can’t imagine giving Estea a massage, cracking her bones and all that... she’ll crack me in two before I crack anything."
Theo muttered to himself, a little regret in his voice.
"You want me to crack you in two?"
Theo staggered sideways at that very familiar voice. He twisted around and stared back at her.
"You are mistaken, that’s not what I mean."
Estea gave him a pitiful look and wheeled herself into the circle of chairs, the wheels hissing softly over the tiles. She was silent for a moment. Theo too, usually so cocky around her, was like a sheep, sitting up straight with both hands on his lap, waiting for whatever would come next from her.
"What happened to you? What are you doing?"
Estea said with a threatening frown.
"Clearly, you’re stronger than you were when I first saw you. You’ve gotten taller too, and suddenly you’re getting more muscular."
Theo paused and glanced down at himself. He turned a forearm over and found a ridge of muscle that hadn’t been there that morning.
He did feel lighter, and his body answered quicker than it used to, every small movement landing exactly where he wanted it. But he hadn’t had the time to take a proper look at himself. Even his shower a few minutes ago had been super quick, because he didn’t want to keep Lance waiting. He hadn’t noticed it in the rush, but sitting here now, even his breathing sat deeper in his chest.
"Did you go through a re-awakening in that battle earlier?"
Theo had his doubts about keeping secrets from these ladies, Thall most of all. At the same time, they probably had more detrimental things they weren’t telling him.
’Right now, I can’t afford to be so trusting with information regarding the system.’
He nodded.
"I can’t remember the feel, but at some point, my body changed... was that re-awakening?"
Estea was silent for a moment, then glared at him.
"You’ll have to do better than that to tell a convincing lie."
She inhaled, closing her eyes.
"You owe me no detail. At the very least, what is your plan now?"
Theo kept his eyes down for a moment, then raised his gaze and smiled.
"I got us a new house, and I think we’ll be moving there. It’s more discreet, well under the radar. I plan to enter the Tower, so you guys will be safe there... with some security, of course."
Estea froze, blinking.
"You... where did you get the money for a new house when you could not even pay your rent?"
