Chapter 671 - 478: Two New Legendary Members of Black Stone Territory
"Furnace of All Things!"
When Mage Delin spoke this name, the breathing of Master Wendel and Master Barnaby grew heavy.
The Furnace of All Things!
According to legend, it was the ultimate Alchemy Divine Artifact, capable of breaking down all things in existence. It could reduce them to their most primordial energies and Elements, then reforge them into any form imaginable at the user’s will!
It was the ultimate dream that all Alchemists pursued their entire lives!
Phillips, the Legendary Alchemy Master who had reached the pinnacle of his era, was not just pursuing this dream—he had even created a prototype!
And this legendary Divine Artifact was now lying quietly behind the door right in front of them!
If they could just solve this alchemical puzzle, they would be able to witness—and even touch—the supreme miracle of the Alchemy Domain!
The temptation was too great.
Great enough to drive any Mage to madness.
"The structure of this Inversion Rune... it’s still not right..."
Master Wendel was hunched over the door, carefully tracing a complex rune with his finger, his brow deeply furrowed.
"Phillips must have hidden some kind of trap here that we haven’t found."
"Could it be that our approach to solving this has been wrong from the very beginning?"
Mage Delin stood to the side with his arms crossed, lost in thought.
"We’ve been trying to crack this Rune Matrix head-on, but Phillips had a wild, unrestrained imagination. He never played by the rules. Perhaps the key isn’t on the door at all."
"Not on the door?"
Master Barnaby was taken aback.
"Then where could it be?"
The three of them fell into deep thought once more.
The only sound in the room was their breathing.
"Cough, cough."
A soft cough suddenly echoed through the quiet workshop, interrupting the three men’s thoughts.
The three of them turned around almost simultaneously and saw Raylo, who had appeared behind them at some unknown point.
"Raylo, kid!"
Master Wendel’s eyebrows bristled, his face a mask of annoyance at having his research interrupted.
"Do you always walk without making a sound? Don’t you know we’re contemplating a critical problem? Your interruption just scared away the sliver of inspiration I’d finally managed to grasp!"
His tone was explosive, like that of a cantankerous lion.
Raylo acted as if he hadn’t seen the man’s murderous expression, a gentle smile gracing his own face.
"Master Wendel, why so worked up?"
He chuckled softly, his gaze sweeping over the massive metal door.
"It seems you’ve run into a difficult problem?"
"Hmph! It’s none of your business!"
Master Wendel snorted and turned his head away.
Raylo paid him no mind, turning instead to Mage Delin, who had remained composed throughout.
"Master Delin, I’ve come back with something good for you all."
"Oh?"
Mage Delin raised an eyebrow slightly.
He knew that Raylo never did anything without a reason.
For him to appear at this moment and say such a thing, the "good thing" he brought must be extraordinary.
"I’ve discovered a new, stable spatial rift."
A spatial rift!
A new spatial rift meant an unknown world!
For a Mage with an insatiable thirst for knowledge, the allure of a brand-new world—with different Laws, different civilizations, and different species—was even greater than that of a Half-Divine Artifact!
Just as expected, Master Wendel’s ears perked up instantly.
Although he maintained his stern expression, the furtive glances he kept stealing at Raylo betrayed his inner curiosity.
"That rift leads to an entirely new world," Raylo continued.
"I was originally thinking of inviting both masters to come with me to study the Laws and civilization of that world."
He paused deliberately at this point, then glanced at Wendel and shrugged with feigned regret.
"However... since Master Wendel is so displeased that I disturbed his research, he surely has no interest in some portal to an Otherworld."
"So, I guess we can forget about it."
"Master Delin, I wonder if you would be interested in accompanying me?"
He completely bypassed Wendel and extended the invitation to Mage Delin alone.
It was a beautifully played move.
"You!"
Master Wendel’s face instantly flushed a deep, purplish-red.
He was so choked by Raylo’s words that he couldn’t speak for a long moment.
’Go, or not go?’
’If I go, it would be the same as admitting defeat to this kid I just berated—right in front of my old friend and student. How could I save face?’
’But if I don’t go?’
’A whole new world!’
’Heaven knows how much unknown knowledge, how many new magical phenomena it contains!’
’If I let that old fellow Delin go by himself, wouldn’t I lose out big time?’
An intense war raged in Master Wendel’s heart, and his face alternated between pale and livid.
In the end, the pride befitting a Legendary Mage won out.
He gave a heavy snort and said stubbornly, his neck stiff with pride.
"It’s just a portal to some Otherworld! What’s so great about that? I’ve lived for hundreds of years—what strange and bizarre worlds haven’t I seen? I’m not interested!"
He spoke with forced bravado, but his eyes were glued to Delin, terrified that his old friend would actually accept Raylo’s offer and leave him behind.
Raylo watched him suffer for the sake of his pride and laughed to himself.
’Not quite hot enough yet.’
He decided to add more fuel to the fire.
"Oh? Is that so?"
Raylo raised his eyebrows in feigned surprise.
