Chapter 245 - 174: Assisting the Investigation, Breeding Work (4)
Hearing this frequency, Si Youqin was stunned. "Minister Lu, isn’t this feeding schedule a little too frequent?"
Lu Jiamei glanced at her. "It’s not. Our base’s method of raising livestock is rather unique. You’ll understand once you get there. I’m just giving you a heads-up in advance, so don’t make a big deal out of it!"
The two workers were taken aback for a moment, then hurriedly nodded in agreement.
What Lu Jiamei said made Si Youqin even more curious. She had raised chickens at home before, and feeding them two or three times a day was more than enough. ’Feeding them once an hour? Are they trying to stuff the chickens to make them bigger? But they’d have to be able to eat it all, wouldn’t they?’
Although she didn’t understand, Si Youqin was tactful enough not to ask any more questions.
Lu Jiamei brought the two women to the livestock farm. She explained the required feed ratios for the chicken coops, rabbit hutches, and pigpens, as well as the amount of feed to dispense each time.
Although they had never raised these animals before, it was obvious to them that the amount of feed for each feeding was far too much!
Remembering what Lu Jiamei had just said about not making a big deal out of things, they could only suppress their shock and do as she instructed.
In just one morning, the two women working at the livestock farm felt like their entire worldview had been shattered!
Every hour they went to feed the animals, they could see the chicks growing at a speed visible to the naked eye, and the rabbits too!
Only the pigs weren’t as obvious, as it seemed the two of them were already adults. In fact, during their second feeding, the two pigs were in the middle of doing something... intimate.
"Are there hormones in this feed? How could they possibly grow this fast!"
"Even with hormones, they couldn’t grow this fast. It’s like they’re being inflated like balloons!"
"Could it be that the animals on our base are the fast-growing type, just like the plants?"
"If that’s really the case, our base will never be short on meat again!"
The two began to discuss this in hushed tones.
By noon, Si Youqin, who was on patrol, passed by the livestock farm and called the two women to go get lunch.
Noticing their strange expressions, Si Youqin couldn’t help but ask, "Are you managing the work at the farm?"
The two immediately nodded. "We can handle it. The work isn’t hard."
"Seeing your strange expressions, I thought you couldn’t handle it. I was even getting ready to find replacements!" Si Youqin said with a smile.
"Things at the livestock farm really are a bit strange!" one of them replied with a wry smile.
Si Youqin’s curiosity was piqued. "How so?"
"Are we allowed to talk about it?"
"Minister Lu didn’t specifically forbid it, so it should be fine. Besides," Si Youqin reasoned, "I’m in a position to swap out personnel. That means whether you tell me or not, we’ll find out eventually. So, the base clearly doesn’t intend to hide it from people like us. We can just consider this an opportunity to learn about the farm’s situation ahead of time!"
The two women nodded and, one after the other, began to explain.
After they finished speaking, Si Youqin was completely stunned. After a long moment, she finally asked, "Is what you’re saying true? You’re not having hallucinations, are you?"
"The Leader would have no reason to prepare such an illusion for us, right?" one of them replied with a shrug.
Si Youqin’s voice was filled with amazement. "It seems it’s not just the plants at our base that can grow quickly—the animals can too!"
The two women nodded in agreement.
"Sister Qin, do you think this rapid animal growth is also one of our Leader’s abilities?" one of them asked in a low voice.
Si Youqin shook her head. "I don’t know, and we don’t need to know. We just need to focus on protecting the base."
The two women paused for a beat, then nodded in unison.
