Chapter 758 - 114: The Whereabouts of the Broken Passage

Having spent so long on the ship, Kasmin had developed quite a good relationship with the crew.

Most of the crew came from humble backgrounds and had never seen such food before, so they indulged heartily, not caring about appearances.

"Mind your manners, mind your manners, don’t act like you’ve never seen the world. We are all Imperial Crew members from now on, equal to the nobility." Weilian held a large leg of meat in one hand, scolding his unruly crewmen.

Billy, bare-chested, held a plate of yellowish porridge-like stew and complained, "Captain, where would you see a nobleman eating with a leg of meat in hand?"

"You stop talking about me first; can you finish what’s in your bowl before stuffing more in?"

"We’re just following your lead, Captain."

"Exactly, exactly."

The crew members shouted loudly with laughter.

Su Changxing also grabbed a leg of meat from the table and said loudly, "I think Captain Weilian is right; people of our status should maintain some decorum."

Kasmin saw the chaotic scene and felt a headache; even though she had expected it, it still caught her off guard.

She saw Little Amy sitting motionless in her seat, looking blank: "Not hungry?"

"Not hungry."

"You should eat a little at least."

"Okay."

"What would you like to eat? I can get it for you."

"Anything is fine."

Kasmin listened to Little Amy and felt the child was too traumatized by her family’s death.

She cut a large piece of smoked meat, half a piece of bread, and a chunk of sausage, putting them on a plate in front of Little Amy, and then ladled a steaming bowl of corn soup.

Little Amy looked at the food in front of her, glanced at Kasmin, and then started eating ravenously.

...

After the meal

Kasmin found Eric’s Mansion’s former butler, Hamler, an elderly man in black clothing with white gloves, full of white hair, and a straight posture.

Kasmin explained to Su Changxing in a whisper: "Hamler was originally the butler of our Imperial Tower, but in his youth, he was very close with Eric, so as he got older, he took up this position here."

"Previously, he was imprisoned by Eric, just recently released, and he’s quite familiar with this place. If you want to know anything, just ask him directly."

Hamler walked in briskly from outside the door, bowed politely, and asked respectfully, "Princess, Lord Liu Luola, is there anything I can help with?"

Su Changxing showed a touch of surprise: "You know me?"

Hamler smiled and said, "Lord Liu Luola was quite a sensation in Wodan, capturing the Empress’s heart and creating the prototype of the steam engine with Lord Eric."

"But with time passing, and you being gone for so long, many people have forgotten about you, including myself, as most people’s memory isn’t that great."

Su Changxing decided not to dwell too much on this issue and placed the broken Bronze Mirror on the table for display:

"Do you know what this is? I need to find the other parts of this shattered mirror."

Hamler examined the broken mirror closely, furrowing his brows slightly: "Lord Eric used to collect two similar mirrors, but one was taken by the Duke."

Su Changxing was surprised to find a clue and asked immediately, "Where is that mirror now?"

Hamler thought for a moment and said, "It’s stored in the warehouse, if no one has taken it. If you like, I can take you there now."

Su Changxing nodded, "Alright, let’s have a look."

Hamler led the way, explaining, "Over the years, Lord Eric invented many things, but most were useless, so he stored them in the warehouse since he couldn’t bear to throw them away."

"Because they’re not useful, they generally stay there unless needed."

They walked along a path towards the mansion’s depths, where the iron-clad warehouse loomed dimly in the pale light not far away.

The warehouses were neatly arranged, over a dozen of them.

"These aren’t for storing inventions, but rather some of Lord Eric’s collections. Besides inventing, he liked collecting antiques and peculiar items," Camler explained knowledgably.

Su Changxing looked at him and asked, "How long were you imprisoned?"

Hamler sighed, his eyes glistening with tears: "Not long after the news of Wodan’s coup, many people in the city were imbued with fervor."

"But at that time, Lord Eric decided to side with the Duke, which was something I couldn’t accept, so I tried my best to persuade him."

"He seemed bewitched and wouldn’t listen. After several attempts, he tired of me and imprisoned me."

"I never imagined someone like him would betray the Empire."

"That’s likely because the Evil God was behind it," Kasmin interjected.

Hamler nodded, his eyes red: "I should have realized at the time. How could Lord Eric truly betray the Empire after spending most of his life dedicated to it?"

They finally reached the second-to-last warehouse on the left, where Hamler activated a mechanism, causing the door to rise slowly as chains clattered.

Inside were rows of shelves displaying various bizarre items, from palm-sized snail shells to oddly shaped animal specimens.

"I remember it was on the seventh shelf. The two mirrors were kept together. I was here just a month ago," Hamler recalled.

Su Changxing turned and spotted a broken Bronze Mirror, not very big, one-fourth the size of the one in his hand: "Over there, I see it."

Hamler followed Su Changxing’s gaze and nodded: "Yes, that’s the one. You’ve got a good eye, spotting it immediately. I guess age has made my eyes dim."

Su Changxing went to the shelf, picked up the side piece of the broken Bronze Mirror, and found that parts of the edges matched perfectly with the piece he had.

Kasmin watched as the two pieces were joined together: "Were they originally part of the same mirror? What is this used for?"

Su Changxing dropped the two pieces into the Pocket Galaxy, speaking bluntly: "This thing can traverse the barriers between worlds, acting as a portal to places beyond this one."

"However, it likely only benefits heretics like us, which is why many heretics are searching for it."
