Chapter 868 - 223: Blood

More prisoners were released and swarmed towards the believers.

The dungeon was large, holding many people.

These people were locked in like animals, without any hope of survival, and therefore resisted without restraint.

Only those in despair can resist recklessly.

While Angisun went to block reinforcements, Adis grabbed an axe from a believer’s hand and charged with the crowd towards the believers. During the process, many fell under bullets.

But he was lucky enough to charge right up to the believer, and with a single chop of the axe, he split the head open, spraying a lot of blood.

Even at this moment, five believers remained in the dungeon, faces filled with terror because there was a monster they hadn’t previously noticed.

Previously released by Adis, the burly man’s combat ability was terrifying, personally snapping believers’ necks, killing a full five.

His muscles were unusual, twisted together like a solid piece of iron, even unaffected by firearm shots, leaving not too large nor too small blood holes.

Adis followed behind him, attacking the last few believers. Their bullets all hit the man’s body, causing him to pause.

Adis seized this opportunity, throwing his axe, striking the chest of the foremost believer and interrupting his reloading.

The other prisoners also swarmed forward, dispatching the remaining believers.

"Combat prowess is really at its peak!" Adis couldn’t help but exclaim, breathing a sigh of relief. Things had progressed more smoothly than imagined; these imprisoned people weren’t ordinary.

The burly man fished out a machete from a dead believer and turned to Adis:

"Brother. Rein. My name is Rein. Thank you for rescuing me."

Adis clumsily reloaded his firearm, nodding: "Adis... the guards outside are coming over. We have to break out quickly, or their numbers will increase."

Rein decisively turned and ran, shouting: "Follow me!"

Angisun couldn’t hold on anymore; he’d exhausted all his bullets, forced to retreat, the hallway lined with prisoners’ corpses.

Down came fully equipped guards, far better equipped than dungeon believers, clad in steel helmets and iron armor, able to withstand firearm shots.

Angisun looked back, noticing the dungeon believers were already handled, and shouted: "Charge together, eliminate them, so we can escape."

"Charge together!"

At this moment, they could not afford fear; fear would mean failure, perhaps not a more tragic fate, but at least death.

Rein heard and, wielding the machete, spread his arms and roared: "I’ll go first, follow me!"

He raced down the corridor towards the exit, facing firearm shots unflinchingly, taking hits but not pausing, pressing onward.

This scene stunned Adis; it was his first time witnessing such bravery.

This inspired others’ morale, even those extremely weakened charged forward roaring.

Adis knew this path was their way to freedom, so they had to go through, each decisively.

The dauntless Rein still fell on this path.

Flesh and blood are ultimately flesh and blood.

After taking several shots, Rein fell in a pool of blood, yet crawled forward, seizing a guard’s ankle, dragging him down.

The guard, furious being near Rein, stabbed him repeatedly with the longsword before Rein released him.

Adis charged and smashed an axe into that guard’s head, banging him down, then raised his firearm, aiming at another and pulling the trigger; at such close range, even full iron armor couldn’t stop bullets.

Prisoners in the dungeon were simply too many; even with well-equipped and formidable guards, they couldn’t hold.

Adis and company pushed guards back steadily to the stairs at the exit.

A long-haired man laughed: "In a short time, no one else will come; this is all their power, we can definitely break out!"

The power balance was clear; breaking out was just a matter of time, these guards couldn’t stop them.

He shot bullet after bullet at the guards, though not as accurately as Angisun, probably second best in the dungeon, even hitting a guard’s forehead through helmet gaps.

They advanced upstairs step by step, guards fell on the steps one by one, prisoners stripped equipment and wore it themselves.

The dungeon was tens of meters below ground, making the process seem long, guards unwilling to surrender despite being at a disadvantage.

At this moment, Adis heard a crisp sound like a coin hitting the floor, filling him with panic.

A silver-white ball rolled down the stairs into the crowd.

No one knew what it was, but Angisun recognized it, shouting: "Retreat, it’s a hand grenade!"

In such a confined space, a hand grenade’s power would be magnified several times, so Angisun was the first to retreat, while others, unaware, rushed forward.

The silver ball suddenly bounced in the air, growing larger than before.

Then there was a flash of bright fire.

Followed by an deafening explosion.

Adis froze, feeling everything around him slow, unable to dodge; in front of him a long-haired man turned and knocked him down, rolling them down the stairs together.

The grenade exploded in the crowd, rendering the scene bloody, nearby men obliterated, an arm flying far and landing on the dungeon floor.

Adis lay on the ground, gazing at the ceiling, feeling dizzy and numb, things around doubling.

But he quickly cleared up, getting up and looking at the long-haired man lying nearby, surrounded by ever-increasing blood.

This man he’d only just met, without knowing his name, saved him.

"Escape, break out..." The long-haired man looked at him, speaking with difficulty, face still fierce.

Clearly, he was beyond saving, blown through from behind.

Adis grabbed his pistol and charged again, knowing they couldn’t stop; stopping meant defeat, they had to break free.

Bam—

He fired at a guard on the stairs, the bullet sparking on armor, leaving a bleeding hole.

The guard looked down at Adis, laughed: "You beasts think you can escape here, dream on!"

Adis roared, charging with the axe then sidestepping to dodge the attack.

Both weapons clashed with metal clang.

These guards seemed monstrous, terrifyingly strong; Adis felt his hands numb, almost losing grip on his weapon.

Impossible to be their match.

His face twisted, retreating sideways to avoid the next attack.

"You can’t escape!"

The guard laughed, swinging the heavy longsword, space tight, nowhere to dodge, and behind him was a locked wooden door, the dungeon’s storage.

The guard’s eyes widened in incredulity, the longsword struck the wooden door with a dull sound.

He saw Adis pass through the door easily, as if seeing a ghost.

This stunned the guard, unsure how to react, before hearing wind near his ear.

Adis emerged from the door again, wielding the axe at the guard.

This strike was swift, with the door blocking vision, the axe blade easily reached the guard’s neck, chopping down forcefully.

Before everyone’s eyes, Adis personally chopped a guard’s head off.

Blood sprayed on the falling head.
