Chapter 192 - 129: Epic Heroes
The September invasions progressed smoothly.
The heroes and soldiers in the territory took turns invading. By ten o’clock each morning, they would all be assembled, and as soon as ten o’clock struck, they would immediately enter the Teleportation Gate.
Then, leveraging their superior quality and numbers, they would quickly flatten the Beastman Territory and return with an Elemental Core.
Ever since this month’s invasions began, the defenders Lin Yu’s subordinates encountered had all been from the United Tribes. The battles were typically over in a single assault; no defender could stand against them.
Most of the time, the Beastman Territory had been wiped out before the other lords’ troops could even enter.
Occasionally, they would encounter scouts from other lords, but no one paid them any mind.
Ever since the incident with Li Hua, whenever they attacked a Beastman Territory, Lin Yu’s forces would cast a mixed wind-and-earth shield—a Sandstorm Shield—around the perimeter.
This ensured that any scouts who happened to appear wouldn’t be able to witness the actual slaughter.
As a result, even though lords in the chat channel would occasionally report discovering an unknown lord’s legion single-handedly flattening a Beastman Territory, the leaked videos only showed swirling sand and dust, so it didn’t attract any covetous gazes.
Meanwhile, Lin Yu’s mercenaries were also extremely popular, as they charged no fee; all they required as payment was the Elemental Core from the invaded Beastman Territory.
The clients didn’t have to spend their own money; they simply used a prize—one they weren’t even guaranteed to obtain by invading alone—to cover the hiring fee.
This risk-free hiring model, which was like getting something for nothing, was a huge hit with all the lords.
Essentially, the lords who hired Lin Yu’s legion only had to grant access to their Teleportation Gate in order to reap the rewards of an invasion.
Of course, if there was only a single Beastman Territory on the other side of a Teleportation Gate, lords wouldn’t hire them, as there would be no profit to be made.
Lords generally wouldn’t attack such territories themselves either, as they were usually quite powerful, and it wasn’t worth the risk for a single Elemental Core.
Overall, however, the mercenary business was booming. While the soldiers and heroes back in his territory obtained at most five or six Elemental Cores per day, the mercenaries were bringing in more than a dozen daily.
Moreover, the mercenary force of just twenty thousand troops (though Lin Yu, fearing mishaps, had dispatched another ten-thousand-strong, identically equipped legion as backup) could annihilate over a dozen camps of the Beastman United Tribes. The experience they gained was far greater than that of the troops back in the territory.
Unfortunately, no matter how envious his people were, Lin Yu had no intention of letting them go out. If he were exposed, he would be forced to flee to the Glacier World. An escape route, after all, is best left unused.
Back in his territory, Lin Yu’s plans had changed ever since he learned the Glacier World was not governed by the lord competition. His original intention to let it develop and rebuild at its own pace was abandoned.
He dispatched a large number of his people from the territory, including dwarves, pixies, Slimes, Great Elves, fairies, elves, various cold-resistant birds and beasts, and their corresponding Demon Race members.
He also sent large quantities of defensive plant seeds and various other resources to the Glacier World, beginning development there.
However, to avoid interfering with the Glacier World’s native development, these efforts were confined to the vicinity of the two Ice Crystal Trees.
Although the Glacier World was only a small world, it was still much larger than his current World Tree Territory, which was located within the competition’s domain.
The land set aside for construction around the two Ice Crystal Trees was already larger than Lin Yu’s entire existing World Tree Territory.
To accelerate the Glacier World’s Spiritual Energy production, Lin Yu began recruiting pixies again for the first time in a while. After a brief training period in the territory, the new recruits were sent to the Glacier World.
Because transforming the Glacier World required an enormous number of pixies, Lin Yu’s recruitment efforts continued for a full month.
Every day, he used up his entire recruitment quota for pixies.
With this support, the work of restoring civilization in the Glacier World progressed smoothly, and the world’s Spiritual Energy production rate rose rapidly.
Finally, Lin Yu spent a hefty sum in the Points Shop to purchase a blueprint for a Universal Cosmic Transmission Array. He built the array in the Glacier World and then purchased several corresponding single-use teleporters.
This type of universal array required far more materials—and much rarer ones—than the Teleportation Arrays specifically directed toward the Cosmic Arena and the Eternal Battlefield.
This was because, in principle, the former two types of arrays had only a single function.
They only needed to provide a special beacon. Then, a main Teleportation Array in the Cosmic Arena or Eternal Battlefield could transport the person at the beacon’s location to that destination, or transport people and items from the Cosmic Arena or Eternal Battlefield back to the Teleportation Array in the lord’s territory.
The Universal Teleportation Array, however, had two functions.
First, it provided a calibration coordinate marker for incoming personnel or items to prevent teleportation errors.
Second, it supplied spatial power to teleport users to a designated set of coordinates.
Therefore, the Universal Teleportation Array required a resource that many lords lacked, one that wasn’t sold on the market and was unavailable in the Points Shop, Arena Shop, or Battle Shop: Space Stone.
As it happened, Lin Yu’s own territory produced Space Stones.
Otherwise, even with the blueprint, he wouldn’t have been able to build the Teleportation Array.
After expediting the construction of the Teleportation Array, Lin Yu had Lin Kong test one of the single-use teleporters. After confirming that it worked properly, Lin Yu was finally able to rest easy.
