"Huh? We won just like that?"

Lin Yu looked in surprise at the barbarians kneeling all over the ground. He then ordered his patrol to take the barbarians to the pseudo-city for processing and to wait for the day’s invasion to end.

In the sky, a transparent figure saw the horde of barbarians rebelling and sped back to the Teleportation Gate to report.

’Hmm? That’s all?’

’Wiped out before they even saw the enemy?’

’What? The enemy is a bunch of mutated plants? And they didn’t see those monkeys?’

’Control failed? The barbarians rebelled?’

This string of reports left the Big Eye in the blood pool utterly astonished. There was definitely something strange about the defender’s massive territory.

However, it decided to send another wave of barbarians to test the waters.

The once-empty plaza was now filled with barbarians again. At Big Eye’s command, they stepped into the Teleportation Gate once more.

Upon reappearing in Lin Yu’s territory, the barbarians charged without hesitation toward the site of the previous group’s battle.

When they arrived, all they saw was a jungle scarred by battle and the mangled remnants of eyeballs on the ground. Seeing this, the barbarians (or rather, the eyeballs controlling them) grew furious and immediately set fire to the forest.

Of course, Lin Yu wasn’t about to let them do that. He immediately had the surrounding plants attack.

Although the barbarians were still far from his defensive line, Lin Yu’s territory had already expanded far beyond it. They were standing well within his domain.

Consequently, the jungle around the barbarians was teeming with defensive plants, all under Lin Yu’s control.

After another mass assault from the plants, all the barbarians were cut down.

This time, with no Charming Mushrooms involved (the Charming Spores were depleted, and the mushroom itself had withered, awaiting the growth of a new one), there was no rebellion. The barbarians all met a bitter end on the battlefield, slain by the plants’ assault.

The transparent figure in the sky flew back, satisfied, and reported the situation to the Big Eye in the blood pool.

’I knew it. The control of our Eye Demon race can’t be broken that easily.’

’Keep them coming. I want to see just how many plant-based defensive structures they have.’

As a worldly Eye Demon, it had learned about plant-controlling territories from textbooks before even entering the Contest.

Typically, such territories would build a few plant-based defensive structures and mix them into the jungle to create a powerful illusion, making one believe the entire forest was comprised of defensive plants.

In reality, however, these defensive plants were few and far between. One just had to find and eliminate them. It would cost a few more minions, but that was all. Finding a weak point in the defense would be even better.

Moreover, this type of territory usually possessed elves. Capturing a few would be a great boon to its own domain.

Although it already knew from its comrades that this defender was human, that didn’t preclude the existence of outliers among them—those who could summon elves and build plant-based defenses.

It was just like the few outliers from the Eye Demon race in one of the Contests. They had completely abandoned their race’s innate gift for controlling all other species, instead choosing to walk the path of cultivation. It was a foolish trade-off, abandoning the essential for the trivial.

Even if they could get further, so what? By the fourth stage, they would be nothing more than strong cannon fodder on the front lines. How could that compare to the comfortable ease of commanding minions from the rear?

The barbarians continued to enter the Teleportation Gate. After the last one on the plaza stepped through, another legion of barbarians marched in from outside—possessing the same equipment, the same appearance, the same expressionless faces, and the same perfect order.

After this group passed through the Teleportation Gate, they did not head toward the battle site of the first two waves, but instead changed direction.

And then, they once again encountered the same defensive line, the same clusters of wild flora, and a fully-recharged Charming Mushroom.

This time, Lin Yu was prepared. The moment the barbarians entered, he used a three-leaf clover to blow a cloud of Charming Spores toward them. More than half of the barbarians broke free from control and turned on those who were still enthralled.

However, this group of barbarians did not surrender afterward. Perhaps because they hadn’t been attacked by Lin Yu’s defensive plants, or because they didn’t realize the Charming Mushroom belonged to the territory before them, they collectively fled into the jungle far from Lin Yu’s domain and hid.

The transparent figure in the sky, aghast, shot back through the Teleportation Gate to report.

’Damn it, they can really break our Eye Demon race’s control.’

’What the hell is that colorful mushroom? It can actually suppress our control effect.’

"Go! Get me some of those colorful mushrooms, or bring back one of the barbarians who broke free of our control!"

Another wave of barbarians set out. This time, their target was the Charming Mushroom.

At this point, Big Eye no longer cared about a successful invasion or capturing elves. The top priority now was to retrieve one of those colorful mushrooms and see exactly how it nullified their control. This was a matter of survival for its entire race.

The barbarians changed their direction once again. Before even approaching Lin Yu’s territory, they began a careful search for the Charming Mushroom.

Their efforts were not in vain; they successfully found a patch of colorful mushrooms in the jungle.

Then, a barbarian stepped forward. He moved with extreme care, cautiously reaching out to pick one of the colorful mushrooms.
