The rumbling returned, and the Gopher Fortress charged out of the Darkness. Several figures trailed behind it.
They were lizard-like creatures of considerable size, each over two meters long. They crawled with incredible speed, their bodies shrouded in a black aura. A single glance was enough to tell they were undoubtedly Demonized Creatures.
Luckily, there weren’t many, only a dozen or so. Li Ziyu didn’t even have to act; Zhang Peng could handle it himself. And that’s just what happened. As the Gopher Fortress was about to return to the Undead Fortress, it suddenly paused, then slammed into reverse, running over and crushing the Demonized Lizards that were following closely behind.
It was a Mobile Fortress, after all. Against a dozen or so Demonized Creatures, there was no need to send out Warriors; simply ramming them with the fortress was enough.
The Demonized Lizards were fast, but they were stupid and didn’t even know to dodge. Just like that, they were all cleaned up.
Dozens of Gophers quickly came out of the fortress, carried the corpses away, and then returned inside.
Once Zhang Peng’s fortress had re-docked, Li Ziyu gave the order for the fortresses to move out, heading directly for the place Zhang Peng had excavated.
On the ground was a large, pitch-black hole. Whistling winds and strange howls echoed from within, making it seem like an entrance to Hell.
Li Ziyu thought for a moment, then checked the time. It wasn’t long until dawn. He decided they wouldn’t go down the hole today.
’That Underground City is said to be the main nest of the Demonized Creatures. There’s no telling how many are inside. Rushing in recklessly could lead to a major loss; it’s better to prepare first.’
Li Ziyu dispatched 20,000 Skeleton Undead to station themselves around the cave, with another 30,000 on standby in case anything ran out. During the day, the Undead Fortress needed to lay dormant, but Liu Xingxing, Zhang Peng, and the Minotaurs were still on the surface. If a large number of Demonized Creatures were to charge out, it would be a huge problem.
Although the combat effectiveness of the Undead would be significantly weakened during the day, their advantages were their sheer numbers and fearlessness. If the enemy really came out, they just had to bog them down at all costs. Persistence was victory.
While Li Ziyu was deploying the Undead, Liu Xingxing wasn’t idle. He immediately dispatched the Treasure Hunting Catmen to set up searchlights all around the cave entrance, illuminating the area.
The lights flickered on, bringing a considerable sense of security. However, the Demonized Creatures in the Underground City didn’t seem very happy about it, and their roars grew louder.
"Boss, I want to send a few expedition teams down to check out the situation," Liu Xingxing said, running to Li Ziyu’s side to ask for permission.
The Combat Sequence for Treasure Hunting Catmen was strange; they always appeared in teams, not as individuals. The expedition team was one of the newly developed Combat Sequences. One team consisted of five Treasure Hunting Catmen. They had some combat ability, but weren’t particularly strong. However, they excelled at scouting.
Li Ziyu thought for a moment, then nodded. "It’s a good idea to go check it out."
Having received his approval, Liu Xingxing immediately ran off to make arrangements. Ever since he got the expedition teams, finding treasure had become much more convenient for him. His ability to gather intelligence and detect danger had also greatly improved.
Soon, five Treasure-Hunting Catman Expedition Teams set out. Judging by their gear, they looked quite professional. Of course, it would have been even better if not for their cute cat faces and short statures.
Time passed. Just before dawn, some members of the expedition teams finally returned. However, of the five teams that went in, only two Catmen came back, and they were covered in blood. It was clear that an accident had occurred inside; the other Catmen were likely never coming back.
After the two Catmen had a moment to recover, Liu Xingxing brought them before Li Ziyu. The two little cuties were now in a miserable state, which made Li Ziyu’s heart ache a little. He had the Undead bring them food and water, letting the two Catmen replenish their strength first before answering his questions.
