Chapter 760: Organization Base
Organization Base
“So you’re saying you don’t know where I came from either? Can I still go back?”
Lin Ye needed to deal with the abnormal incident at the residential complex, not all this messy stuff on the side.
And the abnormal incident at the residential complex was most likely triggered by that Research Project No. 5473.
“After the research project’s effects wear off, you should be sent back. To be honest, none of us can determine which time-space you came from, and that research project might not even be truly related to time.”
Singularity put her protective mask back on, stood up, and walked toward the shop’s exit.
“Then aren’t you going to ask where I’m from?”
Lin Ye had expected Singularity to question him directly.
“Information exchange with a sub-project of the research must follow strict research protocols. But since the situation is urgent, I came directly to communicate necessary information with you.”
Singularity spoke in a very serious tone.
“Fine. So what am I supposed to do now? Can you provide me with some high-purity spiritual energy?”
Lin Ye had been passively absorbing spiritual energy from the environment, but the rate was barely better than nothing. If the organization could supply him with abundant spiritual energy, he could boost his power beyond a spiritual energy user’s level in no time.
“… High-purity spiritual energy? What’s that? Does spiritual energy even have purity grades?”
Singularity wore a thoughtful expression.
“… Forget I said anything.”
Lin Ye stared into Singularity’s eyes. He couldn’t tell if she was lying. If this woman wasn’t lying, then that was very interesting.
“There are many dangerous anomalous phenomena in the city. I can provide you with some weapons and equipment. Can you clean up the city?”
Singularity didn’t ask further questions and instead assigned Lin Ye a task.
“Clean up the city? May I ask what the purpose of this is?”
Lin Ye wanted to resolve the issues here as quickly as possible.
“This city is where the abnormal incident first occurred. We need to lower the anomaly index in the city district to resolve this abnormal incident.”
Unlike the Squad Leader over there, Singularity answered Lin Ye’s question straightforwardly.
“Alright.”
Lin Ye also needed some anomalous creature corpses to study this inferior spiritual energy. Accepting this task would also let him get a batch of spiritual energy weapons from the organization.
“Here’s the city map. It marks the organization’s hidden bases. One of the bases happens to store a batch of spiritual energy weapons. However, there might still be some anomalous creatures lingering inside.”
Singularity handed a map to Lin Ye, then vanished right before his eyes.
Lin Ye unfolded the map. In just a few seconds, he memorized the entire city’s terrain structure.
‘She left pretty decisively.’
Lin Ye returned to the noodle shop’s kitchen and made another bowl of hand-pulled noodles.
The organization seemed to have never considered that Research Project No. 5473 could actually succeed. In other words, he was never part of their plans.
That was why the organization assigned him a task to clean up the city district. This was probably to prevent him from becoming an unstable factor. Whether the city district actually got cleaned didn’t matter. As long as he didn’t run around causing trouble.
Otherwise, the organization wouldn’t have let him go find spiritual energy weapons at some base by himself. This was really a bit too half-hearted.
‘Then I’ll just eat something here first.’
Lin Ye also used some spare chili peppers from the shop to fry up some chili oil. The chili oil on the table had already dried out.
‘So what the hell is this place? Why isn’t there even pure spiritual energy here? Is this some past time node? Was the spiritual energy in the organization’s plane always like this? Then this really is a terrifying world.’
While thinking, Lin Ye consumed spiritual energy to repair the body structures affected by the inferior spiritual energy. He needed to adapt to the spiritual energy environment here, or else he couldn’t hold out for long.
After eating two more bowls of hand-pulled noodles, Lin Ye finally left the noodle shop and moved toward the outskirts of the city.
There were six organization bases of varying sizes inside the city. The largest base was on the outskirts, and that batch of spiritual energy weapons was stored there.
He would pass by a small base along the way, and Lin Ye planned to stop by and loot anything useful.
Because of the giant worms underground, Lin Ye had to use the most primitive method to move toward the base.
He walked down the middle of the road, with various abandoned buildings lined up on both sides. Some anomalous creatures lurked inside those buildings. Getting too close to the roadside would easily attract their attention.
Following the map, Lin Ye found the nearest subway entrance. The small base was hidden inside one of the tunnels in the subway system. The largest base was near a subway exit on the outskirts, and taking the underground tunnels would be faster.
‘Hopefully, those worms didn’t dig holes in the tunnels.’
Lin Ye turned on a flashlight he’d found in a roadside supermarket and walked down the escalator into the subway station.
The first underground level still had its lighting system running. As soon as he approached the first level, Lin Ye smelled a thick, heavy stench of blood.
The floor and ceiling were evenly coated in dark red blood. A huge pile of minced meat was placed in the center of the first underground level, mixed with some green plant fragments. It looked like a pile of chopped dumpling filling.
Just as Lin Ye was about to turn and leave, he heard dense footsteps coming from the stairs above.
It sounded like a lot of things were approaching the first underground level.
Lin Ye didn’t know what was up there. Although the sound resembled those pseudo-humans from before, he had to be cautious until those things came down.
The footsteps drew closer. Lin Ye stepped onto the dark red floor, skirted around the pile of minced meat, and went down the stairs to the second underground level.
The second level was the boarding platform. Lin Ye jumped down onto the tracks, pressed against the wall, and slipped into the pitch-black tunnel.
Not long after entering the tunnel, he stepped on something soft. Shining his flashlight, he found it seemed to be the shed skin left behind by some creature after molting.
Lin Ye raised the flashlight, moving the beam forward. All the way to the limit of the light, the ground was covered in these black molted skins with colorful patterns.
This seemed to be from some extremely long creature.
Chaotic footsteps sounded behind him. The things that came down from above seemed to have followed him into the tunnel.
Lin Ye turned off the flashlight and sped up. Even without being able to see, he could move normally in the dark.
The things behind him weren’t fast. Lin Ye quickly left their footsteps behind.
His feet kept stepping on those soft molted skins. If all these skins were from one creature, then the thing that molted must have been incredibly long.
‘This should be the place.’
After walking a bit further, Lin Ye suddenly stopped. If the map was accurate, the organization’s small base should be inside the wall.
