Chapter 771: The Parasitic Worm’s Adventure
The Parasitic Worm's Adventure
Borrowing the power of some existence, the parasitic worm used its mouthparts to gnaw through the road surface and burrow deep into the road, wanting to chew out an escape tunnel from the subway tunnel.
After gnawing for about a few dozen meters, the parasitic worm once again dug into a hollow space.
This time, it didn't fall directly into the hollow but instead wedged itself inside the burrow.
Inside the hollow was an artificial groundwater channel, somewhat resembling the city's sewer system.
Murky, turbid liquid flowed through the channel, filled with a massive pile of waste materials in different colors and textures.
On both sides of the channel were two five-meter-wide gray stone slab paths, while the channel itself was over a dozen meters wide and bottomless.
The parasitic worm curiously looked around, unsure of where this place was or whether it should enter.
"It seems like there are a lot of strange materials here."
Little Guardian observed the groundwater channel environment through the parasitic worm.
"Yeah, those waste materials should have some research value."
Lin Ye wore a slightly strange expression—the waste in the liquid didn't seem like ordinary stuff; it looked more like some kind of biological excrement.
"Meow?"
The parasitic worm suddenly let out a cry, seemingly communicating with some existence.
Not long after, the parasitic worm dropped onto the stone slab path, staring at the waste in the liquid, apparently considering how to get those materials out.
"It seems like the other party can influence the Parasitism Network."
Little Guardian felt this was an unstable factor.
"It's fine. After all, this is just a trial version. I'll perfect the system later, and this is mutually beneficial."
Lin Ye hadn't created too many parasitic organisms this time, afraid of running into issues he hadn't anticipated—Abyssal Relics were far from safe items.
The parasitic worm arched its body like a bridge and took a bite from the top of the waste pile above the liquid.
After pulling back onto the stone slab path, it immediately began convulsing violently, spitting the waste from its mouth onto the stone.
It took a while before the parasitic worm crawled back up from the stone slab.
It swallowed the waste on the stone, and a layer of fine black epidermis appeared on its body surface.
Repeating this process a few times, the parasitic worm gnawed away all the waste protruding from the water surface nearby.
Massive fleshy tendrils burst out from inside the parasitic worm, wrapping it into a fleshy lump.
"Is this some kind of Alienation method?"
Little Guardian recorded the substance changes inside the parasitic worm.
"Yeah, it should be an Alienation Ritual triggered by consuming special materials. The other party is quite invested—looks like they want something down here."
Lin Ye stroked Xiao Ling's soft belly. Since he couldn't go out and cause chaos, he was pretty bored right now.
Ten minutes later, the lump burst open, and a brand new black parasitic worm crawled out from inside.
The parasitic worm tried touching the turbid liquid in the channel with its tail, but after only a few seconds, its tail melted into part of the turbid liquid.
"Meow meow!"
The parasitic worm hurriedly lifted its tail, and once it left the liquid, the melting phenomenon quickly stopped.
As if receiving some information, the parasitic worm began moving along the stone slab path, constantly eating the waste protruding from the water surface. After a while, it tried again—this time, its tail lasted ten seconds before melting.
Seeing this, the parasitic worm stuck its head into the liquid and started swallowing the waste beneath the surface.
After gulping down a few mouthfuls of waste, it would return to the stone slab to rest briefly. Ten minutes later, the parasitic worm stopped eating waste and jumped directly into the liquid.
This time, its body didn't melt. After adapting for a bit, it swam toward the depths of the channel like a sea snake.
"Is this okay?"
Little Guardian watched the parasitic worm continuously diving deeper. She felt this wasn't a good place.
"Of course there are problems, but it should still be within manageable range."
Lin Ye toyed with the Spatial Ring, having a rough idea of what lay below.
The parasitic worm swam quickly. It could feel the turbid liquid around it affecting its body in some way, but the impact wasn't severe—it could hold out for a while.
Inside the turbid liquid was a massive accumulation of different kinds of waste. Whenever it encountered some special materials, the parasitic worm would swim over and take a few bites.
After swimming for about half an hour, the parasitic worm suddenly broke through the surface. The world flipped, and it floated on top of a vast expanse of turbid liquid.
This was an open space. In the sky above were fixed countless human corpses in various states of death, and in the distance stood some tall white aquatic plants, with branches dangling corpses of different species of creatures.
The turbid liquid surface stretched endlessly. Far in the distance, there seemed to be a continent, or perhaps a large island.
The parasitic worm floated on the water, staring blankly at the corpses in the sky.
"This is way too big."
Lin Ye had thought this was just a small space, with whatever the enemies were looking for placed right in the center.
"What do we do now? Still nothing?"
Little Guardian felt this was pretty ominous.
"Yeah, anyway, we're not the ones in a hurry. The longer this drags on, the better for us."
Even if it dragged on until tomorrow morning, Lin Ye didn't care. He could just take the time to study the new Parasitism Network.
The parasitic worm swam toward that landmass, but not very fast, as if wary of the strange things around it.
After swimming for about ten minutes, the parasitic worm not only failed to get closer to the continent but actually moved away from it, shortening the distance between itself and those aquatic plants.
"The liquid surface is flowing in layers, and it keeps changing direction."
Lin Ye saw through the problem with the turbid liquid. The parasitic worm would have to constantly adjust its swimming direction through calculation to get closer to the continent.
That level of calculation was really too difficult for a worm.
The parasitic worm also noticed the problem. It stopped in place, splashing around in the water a few times.
Not long after, the parasitic worm received the correct movement route and began swimming along a certain path.
The landmass started approaching the parasitic worm. Just then, Lin Ye suddenly spoke up:
"Have it follow this route. That landmass isn't right—if it doesn't run now, it'll be too late."
"It's already been sent."
Under Little Guardian's control, the parasitic worm changed its swimming direction and began moving along the route Lin Ye provided.
The landmass suddenly accelerated, quickly closing in on the parasitic worm. Only when the parasitic worm got close to those aquatic plants did the landmass stop moving and return to its original position.
The parasitic worm was clearly spooked. It floated on the water surface, no longer swimming freely. The current didn't push it any closer to the aquatic plants, and no new changes appeared around it.
Lin Ye let the parasitic worm paddle in place. Outside, the Parasitism Network was covering the entire Plane. He wasn't in any hurry at all.
