Chapter 782: Doomsday Gathering
Doomsday Gathering
"But I can't eat until evening."
Eura looked at Lin Ye with some hesitation.
"Other things are fine too, as long as they're nutritious. I can digest anything."
Lin Ye looked at the little girl lying beside him. This place didn't seem like an ordinary household—there should be plenty of things he could use as food.
"Is this okay?"
Eura took a headpiece adorned with gems from a spatial item and placed it in front of Lin Ye.
"It should work."
Lin Ye swallowed the headpiece into his stomach. As soon as it entered his digestive system, part of it began to dissolve, sending a flood of nutrients flowing through his body, transforming his physique.
"Is there anything you need me to do for you?"
Lin Ye didn't like taking advantage of others.
"Can you help me escape from here?"
Eura leaned close to Lin Ye's ear and whispered.
"Yes, I'll take you out of here, but it'll take some time."
At least another half hour or so before Lin Ye could return to normal condition.
"Then rest for now."
Eura looked a little disappointed. There were only fifteen days left before the ritual began, and time was running out for her.
"Alright."
Lin Ye closed his eyes and began to modify the body structure of his larval form.
Eura got up and left the room.
Five minutes later, a man dressed in a maid's uniform sneaked into the room.
"I've made it inside. The target isn't in the room. Wait, there's some weird thing here—might be the target's pet. This is the first time I've seen a creature like this."
The man spotted Lin Ye, but he didn't pay much attention.
"Hey! Can you hear me?"
The man held a device resembling a radio and asked nervously.
"Sorry, I already cut off the spiritual energy waves that device was emitting."
Lin Ye opened one eye and glanced at the man with curiosity.
Seemed like there were some strange customs around here.
"You can talk! You're actually a phantom beast?! And such an ugly one at that!"
The man stared at Lin Ye in excitement.
"Oh? I'm a phantom beast? News to me."
Lin Ye wasn't bothered by the man's comment. Different individuals had different standards of aesthetics, intelligence, and cognition—he was used to such biased evaluations.
Those who fail to understand art will eventually be abandoned by it.
"Do you want to form a contract with me?"
The man crept closer to Lin Ye, reaching his right hand behind his back.
"Why can't I parasitize him?"
Lin Ye asked with curiosity.
"No idea. Maybe it's related to that strange energy inside his body."
Little Guardian appeared beside the man, calmly plunging her hand into his body and pulling out a wisp of purple energy.
The man muttered to himself, a foolish grin spreading across his face.
"...This seems like a different kind of spiritual energy."
A strand of purple energy drifted onto Lin Ye's claw. He used his mental energy to sense its properties and analyze its effects.
"Aren't you going to eat him?"
Little Guardian knew Lin Ye was in desperate need of flesh and blood material.
"I don't want to treat my own kind as food. I'll just use him as research material."
Lin Ye could mutate the man into an edible state—in essence, there was no real difference between the two, but it was a matter of principle.
"Do you want me to scout the situation outside?"
Little Guardian walked to the window and glanced out.
Beyond the window was a sunlit courtyard, with butterflies fluttering among the vibrant flowers.
"Not yet. Let me study this energy first."
Lin Ye noticed that the purple energy contained a substance he'd never seen before. That might be what made it special.
Another five minutes passed, and a woman dressed in a maid's uniform entered the room. She didn't use a radio to communicate, but she kept sneaking glances around the room.
The man was standing right behind her, yet she hadn't noticed him at all.
Lin Ye didn't act immediately. She was already within the range of the mental defense system. Even if he couldn't deploy the Parasitism Network, Little Guardian could still control her movements.
"They're members of a cult called the Doomsday Gathering. They're here to kill that little girl. As for why they want her dead, even they don't know."
Little Guardian quickly extracted partial information from both of their minds.
"Sounds like a shady organization. Might as well call it the Dinosaur Cult."
Lin Ye planned to pay a visit to the cult's leader later to spread the gospel of love and peace.
"This energy inside them seems to originate from some kind of creature called a phantom beast. There are two bottles of samples here."
The man and woman each pulled a bottle of purple potion from their pockets and placed them in front of Lin Ye.
Lin Ye swallowed both bottles into his stomach. The purple energy quickly spread throughout his entire body.
Just then, Lin Ye heard hurried footsteps in the hallway. Little Guardian made the two people hide under the bed. Eura, carrying a lunchbox, pushed open the door and entered the room.
"I brought some more food. Do you still need it?"
Eura set the lunchbox in front of Lin Ye and opened the lid.
"Is that old woman who followed you here someone you know?"
Lin Ye gulped down the food from the lunchbox in a few bites.
"What?! She's not someone I know!"
Eura nervously looked toward the door.
"Then there's no problem. I'll handle it."
Lin Ye lay lazily on the floor. After eating, he felt a bit drowsy.
A woman in a black cloak entered the room. Her body moved like a puppet tangled in threads, every motion stiff and jerky.
"There's no Parasitism Network here. That energy suppresses my abilities, and her mental energy isn't weak either. I can't control her for long."
Little Guardian appeared behind the woman, her voice strained as she warned.
"No worries. I've got that energy inside me now too. I haven't figured out its properties yet, but I can still use my own energy through conventional methods."
Lin Ye began to use the purple energy within himself to modify the woman's body structure, but the purple energy inside her body resisted the change, as if it possessed a will of its own.
'I see... so that's why I can't directly parasitize these people's bodies... It's spiritual energy infused with mental energy? No, that doesn't seem quite right either...'
This energy seemed somewhat similar to the Spiritual Energy Mental Energy Mixed Protective Field, yet different at the same time.
Lin Ye gave up on parasitizing her body and simply used spiritual energy to shatter her brain.
To him, corpses were much easier to control than troublesome energies like this.
After the woman died, the energy inside her body was quickly expelled by Lin Ye and dispersed outside the corpse.
Dozens of bright red Parasitic Butterflies flew out from the corpse. Little Guardian opened the window, and the butterflies fluttered out into the courtyard.
