Chapter 789: Escaping the Secret Realm
Escaping the Secret Realm
“Because it didn’t say a single word of truth.”
Lin Ye had initially wanted to extract some information from the mannequin, but the other party had no intention of communicating at all, and had been filled with malice the entire time.
“It’s not a secret realm explorer? Then how does it know we came in from outside?”
Eura seemed to have thought of something.
“It has a different purpose for being in the secret realm.”
Lin Ye suddenly slowed down the vehicle. A tunnel appeared at the end of the road.
That tunnel looked very strange, because this wasn’t a mountainous area; there was no need to build a tunnel here at all.
Some silhouettes were lying near the tunnel entrance, looking a bit like those mannequins from before.
“Are we going in?”
Eura looked at the deep, pitch-black tunnel, a bad premonition rising within her.
“There might be a way to escape the secret realm inside.”
The car approached the tunnel entrance. Scattered near the entrance were some mannequin parts, and the mannequins’ faces displayed expressions of despair.
“Didn’t you say it didn’t tell the truth?”
Ryan didn’t believe Lin Ye could see through the mannequin’s thoughts just by observing.
“It doesn’t know how to escape the secret realm, but it has come into contact with something related to escaping it.”
Lin Ye turned on the headlights and drove the car into the tunnel.
The interior of the tunnel was somewhat narrow, with only two lanes that weren’t very wide.
Some mannequins with fierce expressions stood in the darkness, illuminated by the headlights.
Lin Ye drove around those mannequins. He didn’t have a good feeling about the tunnel and didn’t want to come into contact with anything in here.
Inside the tunnel was dead silent, only the sound of the car driving could be heard.
Lin Ye carefully maneuvered the car, but at a certain moment, the headlights suddenly went out, and the car came to a stop.
They were plunged into completely lightless darkness.
Little Guardian wanted to take out a flashlight, but a hand stopped her action.
No one made a sound in the darkness. Lin Ye leaned back against his seat, quietly listening to the sounds around him.
Rustle, rustle...
A faint, rustling sound came from nearby, as if a large number of insects were passing by outside the car.
Lin Ye tried his best to hold his breath. The mannequin’s behavior earlier had warned him; the other party seemed very eager to talk to them.
In the darkness where nothing could be seen, every passing second was a torment. But even after an hour had passed, no one made a sound.
Lin Ye slowly reached out, grabbed Little Guardian’s right hand, and wrote a line of text on it.
Little Guardian then passed the information to the other two, which took a little time.
After another ten minutes, Lin Ye finally began to act. He gently opened the car door and reached his hand back.
At the same time, Little Guardian opened the rear door and grabbed Lin Ye’s extended left hand.
Eura and Ryan also got out of the car. The four of them, holding hands, formed a single-file line and walked deeper into the tunnel.
Occasionally, a slight sound would appear in the darkness, but as long as they didn’t make any sound exceeding a certain threshold, they wouldn’t attract other things.
Lin Ye had spent an hour earlier listening to the sounds around them. Those things, which might be insects, passed by the car at regular intervals. He deliberately chose the time after the insects had passed by the car to lead the others deeper into the tunnel.
Those insects had already gone towards the tunnel entrance. Based on their movement speed, as long as they maintained their current pace, they wouldn’t be caught up by those insects.
Moreover, the other end of the tunnel wasn’t that far from the car. They could exit from the opposite side before the insects got close.
Lin Ye didn’t choose to return to the tunnel entrance. He wanted to find a way to leave the secret realm here.
The four of them moved slowly forward in the darkness. Occasionally, they encountered uneven ground or other obstacles along the way.
There were also some things that made sounds passing by them. Every time he heard a sound, Lin Ye would stop in his tracks and wait for the thing making the noise to leave.
Relying on this cautious and tacit cooperation, the four of them successfully reached the end of the tunnel.
But there, instead of the expected exit, was an entire concrete wall that completely sealed off the tunnel.
Lin Ye felt along the wall but found no exit from the tunnel. He decisively pulled out a flashlight and illuminated the pitch-black tunnel.
On the concrete wall was a door drawn with chalk. When the door was illuminated, the shadow of a doorknob appeared on the wall.
Ryan clamped her hand tightly over her mouth to stop herself from screaming.
Behind the four of them followed a large crowd of mannequins, their faces twisted with fierce expressions, reaching out their artificial limbs towards them.
Lin Ye grabbed the phantom doorknob and pulled hard, opening a crack in the concrete door.
Zzzt, zzzt, zzzt...
Just then, a massive amount of static quickly approached from behind. It was hundreds of sparking electrical wires. Those wires swept aside the mannequins and lunged at Ryan, who was standing at the very back.
Eura pulled out the hunting shotgun and fired at the nearest wire, blasting it away.
Ryan drew a kitchen knife and hacked at the artificial limbs closing in.
Little Guardian helped Lin Ye push open the concrete door. The four of them barely managed to slip through the door and leave the tunnel before those wires could wrap around them.
“...This is outside?! We made it out!”
Ryan looked around and let out an excited voice.
After passing through the concrete door, they had not only left the tunnel but also escaped the secret realm.
Lin Ye transformed back into his dinosaur form, and Little Guardian returned to his consciousness.
Eura leaned against Lin Ye, trying to calm her somewhat rapid breathing.
“Where are those two people?”
Ryan looked around, searching for Lin Ye and Little Guardian.
“I am Lin Ye. Little Guardian is a part of me.”
Lin Ye glanced at the purple light gate not far away. This wasn’t the same secret realm they had entered earlier; this was a secret realm gate from another region.
“You are a phantom beast?”
Ryan’s attitude became noticeably more respectful.
“I guess you could say that... We’d better get out of here as soon as possible. Someone is coming.”
This secret realm seemed to have already been sealed off. Lin Ye could sense the guards approaching.
“Ah, I can communicate with them. I am...”
Ryan turned around, only to find that Lin Ye and Eura had already disappeared.
“Aren’t we taking her out with us?”
Eura and Lin Ye were lying inside the esophagus of the parasitic worm, which was moving away from the secret realm.
“She’s no ordinary person. Not only is she a contractor who signed a pact with a phantom beast, but she’s also a Seventh-tier spiritual energy user. She’s probably someone related to the authorities.”
Lin Ye felt like he was starving to death. It was the first time he had ever felt such an intense hunger.
“Ah? Then will she tell them about us?”
Eura didn’t want to be caught and taken back by those people.
“It’s fine if she does. It’s not a big deal.”
He wondered what was going on with the young girl. Even now, Lin Ye still hadn’t been pulled back.
Maybe it was because time flowed quickly in this world; it probably hadn’t even been three hours on the other side yet.
“Well, that’s reassuring.”
Before Eura could finish her words, the parasitic worm was cut in half by an attack.
