Chapter 750: Switching Movement
That Shadow did not respond. It merely glanced at the Little Treant before looking away.
Seeing that the other party had no reaction, Lin Ye led the others onto the balcony on the second floor of the building. Across from the balcony was another building's balcony, with less than a meter of space between them.
Lin Ye leaped onto the opposite balcony, and the others followed suit.
The inner walls of this building were covered in indecipherable symbols. A towering Shadow knelt in the center of the room, eyes closed, seemingly praying to some entity.
"Hello, can we pass through here?"
Lin Ye didn’t barge into the room recklessly. He felt these symbols might have some unknown effect on any creature entering.
"I need one sacrificial offering."
The Shadow spoke with its eyes still closed.
"Are you sure?"
Lin Ye raised his sniper rifle, aiming it at the symbols on the wall.
"...Unstable powder can be used instead."
The Shadow glanced at the Little Treant, then stood up and retrieved a bowl-shaped container decorated with patterns from a cabinet.
"How much?"
Lin Ye took out a bag filled with pale yellow powder. After killing those researchers, he had found several bags of powder in the metal room.
"Fill it."
The Shadow placed the bowl on the balcony.
Lin Ye filled the bowl to the brim with pale yellow powder, then led the others through the room, arriving near a windowsill on one side.
Across the windowsill was another building's windowsill, with a very short distance between them—just one step away.
Lin Ye climbed onto the windowsill and opened the opposite window. Through it, he could see inside the other building.
There was no Shadow there. The floor was overgrown with all kinds of strange plants, making it look like an abandoned, uninhabited building.
Lin Ye jumped into the room and helped the others over.
Those plants swayed slightly, their rhythm somewhat similar to the Little Treant's. Lin Ye spotted a pitch-black hole in a corner on the first floor of the building.
Following the map route, Lin Ye led the others as they jumped in. The world flipped, and they successfully returned to the other side.
The ground here had turned completely gray, with only a few walls remaining. The walls were dull and dark, covered in strange black graffiti.
"...There are weird things everywhere around us. Something over there is moving toward us!"
Ephesus looked around, her expression highly uneasy.
"Follow me."
Lin Ye moved forward according to the map route. After just a few steps, they saw the thing approaching them.
It was a large radiation mutant covered in malformed tissue. It had to drag half its bloated body to move, so it wasn’t fast.
But even from a distance, even while wearing a protective suit, Lin Ye could feel the severe radiation contamination.
The radiation mutant let out a deep roar toward them. Soon, similar sounds echoed from afar, rising and falling in a call-and-response pattern.
"...We need to speed up!"
Lin Ye led the way, and the others ran behind him. Because the protective suits were too heavy, Ephesus fell behind after just a few steps.
Colt quickly scooped up Ephesus and caught up with Wen Luo. A few more radiation mutants appeared ahead. Lin Ye weaved through them, feeling a slight burning sensation on his body.
This area was swarming with radiation mutants. A large number of them blocked the path ahead, leaving them with no safe passage.
"No good! If this keeps up, we’ll all die here!"
Colt shouted loudly.
"Follow me! There's an entrance to the other side over there!"
According to the map route, they needed to pass through these radiation mutants to reach the next entrance, but right now, there was no way through.
So Lin Ye could only find the nearest entrance and head to the other side to regroup.
Lin Ye was the first to jump into the entrance. The others followed behind him, leaving the encroaching monsters outside the hole.
The world flipped. Lin Ye landed outside the hole and quickly looked around. The entrance on this side wasn’t inside the city but within a lighthouse.
Through the window, he could see the endless, transparent sea. That massive, spectacular white pipe was not far away.
"Cough, cough... Where is this?"
Colt got up from the ground, feeling some discomfort in his throat.
"We’re inside a lighthouse. Once those monsters leave, we’ll go back."
Lin Ye didn’t step out of the lighthouse. This sea gave off a clear, translucent feeling. Just looking at the surface, one could see very deep. Things like this were usually dangerous.
"...I feel like there are many things in the sea, and there's also something above this lighthouse."
Ephesus looked up toward the top of the lighthouse.
"We’ll head back soon. It’s best not to look around in a place like this."
Lin Ye wanted to go back right now, but those radiation mutants probably hadn’t moved far yet.
Thud!
A small shadow slammed into the window, leaving a faint mark on it.
Lin Ye could only see a shadow; he couldn’t tell what it was.
Thud, thud, thud, thud, thud, thud, thud, thud, thud, thud!
A continuous series of impacts hit the window. Just then, something opened the door to the lighthouse.
Lin Ye drew his shotgun and fired a shot at the doorway. The other three had already jumped into the hole.
The bullet didn’t hit any solid target. Lin Ye backed up and jumped into the hole.
As he fell downward, something grabbed the shotgun in his hand, trying to pull him back into the lighthouse.
Lin Ye quickly let go of the shotgun, then drew his pistol and emptied the magazine upward. The recoil pushed his body away from the opening.
The world flipped, and they returned to the other side. Lin Ye looked around—the radiation mutants were gone. He urgently led the others sprinting toward the correct entrance.
As they neared the entrance, that deep roar echoed again from afar.
Lin Ye and the others quickly jumped into the entrance and landed inside a building on the other side.
This building was already abandoned, with some weeds growing on the floor.
The abandoned building was on the city’s outskirts. A few more switches, and they’d reach the interior of that giant pipe.
Inside this abandoned building, there was none of those Shadows from before. Lin Ye led the way, passing through several ruined structures until they found the next entrance.
They jumped into the entrance and quickly arrived on the other side.
"What the hell!"
Colt was startled, nearly stumbling back into the other side.
They were standing on a small gray patch of ground floating in the void. It was less than ten square meters, with nothing below.
There were other scattered, non-contiguous gray patches around, all on different planes.
