Chapter 483: The Scorpion’s Plan.
Inside the Scorpion King’s chamber, all the elders stared at the king with reverence, with smiles plastered across their faces.
"Your Highness, are you going to give the Horn Lizard King the tome?" one of the elders asked in a low, respectful voice, his expression filled with curiosity.
Listening to the question, the Scorpion King slowly opened his eyes before replying.
"Of course, I’m going to give it to him."
His voice was not loud, yet everyone inside the chamber could hear him loud and clear without missing a single word.
His tone was filled with unquestionable power and authority. When the elders heard this, their expressions immediately changed.
They looked at each other as shock and disbelief appeared on their faces.
Some even frowned deeply, unable to understand why their king would make such a dangerous decision.
If they were to allow their archenemy to pursue the evolution of their species, that would become an enormous threat to the Scorpion Clan.
Even without obtaining their path of evolution, the Horn Lizard Clan already posed a major threat to them.
Thus, how could they willingly allow them to evolve even further?
The mere thought alone sent a chill through several elders.
As if sensing the various thoughts running through the minds of the elders, the king continued calmly, his expression remaining completely unchanged.
"Even though I can’t go back on my word, that does not mean I’m going to give him the complete inheritance tome."
A faint sneer gradually appeared on his face.
"You must remember there are many tomes inside our archives."
"I only need to give that fool an incomplete one, and the promise will be fulfilled."
Hmm?
When the elders heard this, their eyes widened before slow, predatory smiles gradually crept across their faces.
As expected of their king.
How could their king possibly allow their greatest enemy to grow stronger?
That was simply impossible.
Some of the elders could not help but chuckle softly as admiration flashed through their eyes.
The Horn Lizard King thought he was wise.
He believed he had outsmarted everyone.
But who would have thought he was merely a naïve king dancing in the palm of the Scorpion King’s hand?
"As expected of our King. Your wisdom is unrivaled throughout the land," one of the elders could not help but rise to his feet and say with a flattering smile..
Following the first elder, one after another, the remaining elders also rose to their feet and praised their king without holding anything back.
After flattering their king continuously, the atmosphere inside the chamber gradually became peaceful and joyous once again.
The heavy stone pressing upon their hearts seemed to have completely disappeared.
Many secretly breathed sighs of relief. Now, they could carefully plan how to deal with both the Horn Lizard Clan and the wretched humans.
In their eyes, neither side deserved to exist.
Both would eventually become stepping stones for the rise of the Scorpion Clan.
Hmm! Hmm!
Clearing his throat, the old elder tapped his staff gently against the ground before asking his question in a calm yet solemn voice.
"Now that the humans have been pushed back, this is our chance to find out what happened to our army."
"Without our army, half of our power is gone. Right now, we are currently at our weakest moment."
"And that is not good."
Listening to the old elder, all the elders nodded in agreement.
With their king solving their urgent situation, all they needed to do now was quickly resolve the mysterious disappearance of their army.
Until they uncovered the truth, none of them could truly rest in peace.
"Before we find out what is going on in the desert, I suggest we recruit new men into the army."
"Although their strength and power could not compare to our real army, their presence would help our people. At the same time, they can be deployed to intimidate either the humans or the other clans," one of the elders suggested in a serious tone.
Listening to the suggestion, all the elders nodded in agreement.
Many of them even exchanged approving glances. This was the best solution they had come up with so far.
"I agree with you. Before we investigate what is going on in the desert, our priority right now is to create a new army," the old elder nodded in agreement while stroking his beard thoughtfully.
"That is my plan," the Scorpion King nodded.
"This is my command. As from tomorrow, every clansman who is above Level 33 will be conscripted into the army." His voice echoed firmly throughout the chamber.
"Yes, Your Majesty."
The elder in charge of military provisions immediately stood up and respectfully received the command.
Listening to the command, all the elders were pleased. Many of them finally relaxed. However, just then, one of the elders suddenly spoke.
"I have another suggestion that might help us solve our current situation."
Hmm?
Everyone turned their gaze toward him, their faces filled with curiosity. Even the Scorpion King looked at him with interest, silently waiting for him to continue.
"Why don’t we recruit some humans and let them act as our spies?"
The elder’s eyes flickered with deadly cunning as a faint, sinister smile slowly appeared on his face.
"We all know the humans need something from our clan to grow stronger."
"If we promise a few of them those things, I know many of them wouldn’t hesitate to betray their fellow humans."
His smile gradually widened.
"There will always be someone willing to sell out their own kind for enough benefits and a chance to grow stronger."
"For example, we can use them to find out what is going on in the desert. Also, we can use them to assassinate some of their strongest members who pose a threat to us."
"As for our promise, we will simply bait them with a small reward. By the time they realize they have been deceived, they won’t be able to leave."
His voice was calm, yet every word carried a chilling ruthlessness.
Huh!
All the elders widened their eyes in disbelief. For a brief moment, the chamber became completely silent.
This was a masterful plan.
Not only could they gather information without risking their own people, but they could also sow distrust among the humans themselves.
Even their king looked at the elder, and a faint smile gradually appeared on his face.
A trace of appreciation flashed across his crimson eyes.
"Good. Very good. We will do as you suggested." The Scorpion King nodded in satisfaction, his deep voice carrying unmistakable approval.
A cold smile gradually spread across the faces of the elders.
