Chapter 471: My King...Trouble...
"Is it still human?"
"No. I don’t think he’s still human."
"I agree."
"This is too scary."
"I don’t even dare to look at him twice."
Many humans whispered as they watched the brutal torture unfolding before their eyes.
Many did not even dare to raise their voices, afraid that the silver-haired young man outside might somehow hear them.
At the beginning, they thought the battle could not get any worse than it already was. The brutality alone had already exceeded what they could bear.
Some even began to expect the Horn Lizard King to deploy his powerful soldiers to stop him. To them, that was the only hope left for the Horn Lizard Clan.
And when they saw the three powerful commanders and their elite squads, many believed this was the end of the Grim Reaper.
But they were wrong.
Terribly wrong.
The so-called elite force had barely lasted a few exchanges before they were utterly crushed.
"I will advise anyone not to get on the bad side of this demon," a voice whispered. His voice trembled uncontrollably as he spoke.
Everyone nodded.
They could not imagine themselves experiencing such brutal pain. Death no longer seemed frightening.
Living through such torture was.
"He is just too scary," another added. His lips were pale as he spoke.
Once again, everyone nodded.
No one disagreed.
Some wanted to describe the scene before them, but they failed to find the right adjective to use. No word they knew seemed worthy enough to describe what they had just witnessed.
What they thought were the big guns were easily taken down by the two undead Scorpion Commanders.
Easy and simple.
Almost effortless.
It was anticlimactic.
The outcome was so one-sided that many still found it difficult to believe. Many expected a brutal battle that would push the undead army back.
Instead, they realized they had underestimated the Grim Reaper’s undead army.
By a terrifying margin.
This was not some weak, disjointed undead servant but true death warriors. Each undead fought with frightening coordination.
Against them, death was the only thing waiting for their enemies. But who would have thought death would not come so easily?
Ahhh! Ahhh! Ahhh!
The soul-rending screams echoed from outside, sending cold sweat down their spines. Many instinctively covered their ears, yet the screams still seemed to pierce into their minds.
The few with strong mental resilience glanced toward the street again and slowly shook their heads.
Even they found it difficult to continue watching.
"What should we do?"
This was the very question on everyone’s mind.
Should they make a run for their lives and escape Horn Lizard Town while the Grim Reaper was fighting the Horn Lizard Soldiers?
Or should they wait and see how everything unfolded?
For a moment, everyone inside the room remained silent.
Each was lost in their own thoughts.
Weighing their options.
Previously, they might have taken the risk of escaping into the desert. But now that another path had appeared, their hearts wavered. Hope had quietly taken root within them.
Escaping into the Crimson Dune was filled with countless dangers and their safety was not guaranteed.
At any moment, they could become food for the countless beasts lurking beneath the endless dunes.
No one could say if they were going to survive or not..
But if the Grim Reaper could do the impossible, they would not have to brave the dangers of the desert but could keep their lives without fighting.
That alone was enough to make many hesitate. Also, they could witness the legend with their very own eyes. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
"Until the situation changes, I’m not leaving," a figure said in a low voice.
His tone was firm, leaving no room for doubt.
Turning their heads, they found out he was the owner of the tavern. With him taking his stand, others began to speak.
"I agree. We should watch how things play out before risking our lives in the desert."
"We have waited this long already. Waiting a little longer won’t hurt."
"But what if things change and we miss the great opportunity we have right now? I suggest we all make our move now."
"The longer we stay, the more dangerous it becomes."
"That’s right. The Grim Reaper is powerful, but I don’t think he can take down the Horn Lizard King. What happens after the Horn Lizard King kills him?" a figure full of pessimism said, shaking his head.
His face was pale as he imagined the consequences.
"We will be next. So let’s all escape now that we have the chance."
To such a person, it was better to try his luck in the desert than wait here for death. At least the desert might give him a slim chance of survival.
Inwardly, he did not believe a human like the Grim Reaper could take down the powerful Horn Lizard King. A creature with unimaginable power.
That was simply impossible in his eyes.
"Nonsense! If the Horn Lizard King is as powerful as the rumors claim, why doesn’t he come out and save his people?" a woman retorted without hesitation.
Her words immediately caused many people to fall into thought.
"Besides, what does the Horn Lizard King’s battle with the Grim Reaper have to do with us?"
"We are mere spectators. How could he stop all of us? And don’t forget, almost all his men have been killed by the Grim Reaper."
"If things go south, it will be very easy for us to escape."
"We only need to wait for the right opportunity."
Listening to her, most of the people nodded in agreement. Her words were far more convincing than blindly rushing into the dangerous Crimson Dune.
Except, for a few frightened and cowardly people. Their hearts had long been overwhelmed by fear.
...
...
Inside the Horn Lizard King’s hall, the Horn Lizard King sat on his throne, his face filled with anticipation.
His fingers tapped lightly against the armrest of the throne.
’The battle should be over by now.’
’How could a mere human stand against the army of the Horn Lizard Clan?’
’Grim Reaper...’ A scoff escaped from his lips.
His serpentine eyes were filled with disdain. He had never taken humans seriously right from the beginning. And he would not start now.
To him, humans were nothing more than clever prey.
Bang!
Just then, the door to the hall was pushed open, and a soldier rushed in. His face was filled with fear and tension.
His breathing was ragged, and his body was drenched in sweat as though he had sprinted all the way without stopping.
"What happened?" The Horn Lizard King’s booming voice echoed inside the hall.
The pressure inside the hall instantly became heavy.
Thud!
The soldier, who was his trusted aide, fell to one knee with his head bowed. His body trembled uncontrollably.
"My King..."
"...Trouble."
