Chapter 492: Strangeness of the Horn Lizard Town.
[Horn Lizard Town]
The town was strangely quiet.
People minded their own business as they moved through the streets. No one lingered outside longer than necessary.
Doors and windows were slightly opened but never fully opened. It was as if everyone was afraid of exposing themselves.
Even the taverns were unusually quiet. The usual unrestrained shouts and drunken laughter had completely disappeared.
People drank their rum in almost complete silence. Those who wished to talk merely whispered to one another, careful not to raise their voices.
This was the scene throughout Horn Lizard Town. It was as if an invisible hand was hanging in the air, ready to descend at any moment to pass its judgment.
Even though the dead bodies had been cleaned up and burned, the thick stench of blood still lingered in the air. The metallic smell refused to disappear, reminding everyone of the massacre that had taken place.
Walking through the streets, people traveled in groups of two or three at most. No crowds gathered together as they once did.
Smaller parties and Beastmen sent their men to stand by the gate and wait. They remained there patiently, their eyes fixed on the distant horizon.
While no one spoke about it openly, everyone knew what they were waiting for.
Before the Sword of Damocles hanging over everyone’s throat could be withdrawn, they knew the Crimson Arc Guild needed to arrive.
Suddenly, one of the men standing at the gate pointed into the distance.
At first, no one understood what he was pointing at. However, as they stared and focused their eyes, they finally realized who he was pointing toward.
Quickly, movement spread across the town. Those inside their homes stepped outside and quietly stood by the roadside, while others leaned against their doors to watch.
Outside the town, a group was approaching cautiously. The painful lesson they had experienced previously still burned deeply within their minds.
Even though they had sent scouts ahead to confirm the intelligence, they did not dare lower their guards. Every step they took remained careful and measured.
Hands rested on the hilts of their weapons. Their fingers remained tense, ready to draw at the slightest sign of danger.
Their formation was tighter than before, prepared to respond to any unforeseen situation. The last battle had taught them never to underestimate the unknown.
Their eyes wandered back and forth, searching for any sign of danger. Every dune, every slope, and every shadow attracted their attention.
But to their surprise, their journey was peaceful. All the anticipated threats they had expected never appeared.
Slowly, they arrived before the town, and they immediately wrinkled their noses.
Instantly, the thick stench of blood that refused to fade with time assaulted their senses. The overwhelming smell was so dense that it seemed to cling to the air itself.
’What thick bloodlust!’
They all exclaimed inwardly.
Even the most experienced among them unconsciously frowned.
None of them were strangers to blood, but the amount of bloodlust lingering in the air still shocked them to their core.
And this further proved the news that the Grim Reaper had killed all the Horn Lizard soldiers and their king.
The lingering bloodlust throughout the town served as undeniable evidence.
With this, many could not help but breathe a sigh of relief. The terrifying uncertainty that had weighed upon their hearts finally eased, if only slightly.
Among them, the two identical twins stared at each other and saw the shock reflected on each other’s faces. Neither of them had expected the rumors to be true.
Even though there were many questions in their minds about the person who had caused all this, they held back and chose to wait and see how everything unfolded.
At the front, Solenne did not show any change in her expression. Her calm eyes carefully noted the subtle shift in the atmosphere the moment her group entered the town.
As they walked deeper into the town, they noticed some people quietly trailing behind them. More and more curious eyes gathered as they continued forward.
They merely followed them without showing any hostility, which only confused Solenne and her group even more.
Such behavior was completely different from what they had expected.
Just then, a sturdy young man came out of an inn and walked toward Solenne. His pace was steady, but there was a trace of nervousness hidden beneath his smile.
"Guild Master Solenne, welcome," he said with a bright smile.
His respectful tone immediately caught everyone’s attention.
"Everyone is waiting for you."
When Solenne heard this, she furrowed her brows for a moment before her expression gradually turned solemn.
She could not understand what he meant.
Not only her, but the people behind her were also confused. They instinctively tightened their grips around their weapons as a strange tension permeated the air.
"Please, don’t take this the wrong way. I mean no harm. This is just the order of the Grim Reaper," the sturdy Level 36 Warrior said quickly.
He raised both hands slightly to show he had no hostile intentions.
The worst thing that could happen now was for Solenne and her group to misunderstand them. If a battle broke out here, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Just thinking about that silver-haired, blue-eyed young man, the warrior could not help but shiver.
The horrifying scene from the previous night was still deeply etched into his memory.
"Please, follow me, and everything will be explained," he urged, his voice almost pleading.
His anxious expression made it clear he desperately hoped they would agree.
"Very well. Lead the way."
Seeing this, Solenne nodded and chose to follow the man. Although she remained vigilant, her curiosity had already been thoroughly piqued.
Huh!
Almost instantly, all the people watching the scene could not help but breathe a sigh of relief.
Many of them had secretly feared a misunderstanding would lead to another bloody conflict. Fortunately enough, he did not.
Without hesitation, the sturdy warrior led Solenne and her group toward the biggest inn in the town.
